Dapper Day ideas/suggestions on what to wear

With Dapper Day fast approaching, we're thinking of going and joining in on the fun for the first time. I've known about Dapper Day for a while now but my wife just found out about it from one of trips. She noticed a bunch of people were dressed up and asked me if anything special was going on. I explained Dapper Day and she mentioned that it would be cool for our family to dress up and go to DLR/DCA.

So here we are with a couple of weeks before Dapper Day. I'm hoping some folks can give me ideas on what I can wear because I really have no idea. I do have a Darth Vader tie that I would probably wear but not sure what else I can wear. I have work slacks and work dress shoes but I'm not really interested in wearing work clothes all day in the park. Are there other options that people have seen that they can share with me? How about linen pants? If I wear linen pants, what can I wear for my top that can include my Darth Vader tie?

Do you have a favorite Disney Character? I have seen some really cute/great dapper day outfits that are Disney Themed. Think Dapper Day meets Disneybound. For example: red slacks, black button up shirt, and yellow suspenders = Dapper "Mickey".

Think comfort too! A couple Dapper Days ago, it was REALLY hot, my friend wore a full suit and almost fainted.

I know Pinterest might not be your thing, but they have a TON of ideas on there for dapper day. I usually hit at least one of the two DD events each year and always get great ideas from there. I generally go with my small daughter and a male friend. We usually end up disneybounding (as Kriss mentioned above) as some sort of retro Disney couple and let my dd5 pick her own look. For this upcoming dapper day, we're doing Mary Poppins and Bert while the little is doing fancy Jolly Holiday Mary Poppins. I've also just done regular 50's wear without a theme. Do you have a picture of this tie?

Whatever you do, Just be comfortable. Last time I tried to be cute and wear wedges, I lost my big toe nail for about 7 months because of it.

Comfortable shoes are an absolute must! I've never seen so many people limping in pain at DLR as I have on Dapper Days. Try looking at the photo gallery on the Dapper Days website. There are so many good ideas there. You can play with styles, colors, character themes, etc. Disneybound is another good site to look at. Lots of good ideas there. And being Dapper can be as low key or as full on as you like. If your tie is what really counts, then color theme an outfit to make the tie pop.

Why not go with your Star Wars theme? That would be fun. Just google what you like and put together something fun! Maybe some Star Wars/Galaxy/etc suspenders. Hot Topic is usually good for stuff like that; I just looked and here's a shirt, for instance. Etsy is also good for things like that but I'm not sure there's time to order now.
