Daphne's Babies The FINAL Update!

It would be the ultimate in Disney vacation souvenirs...(well, besides a baby...but I am not going to push another poster for that, LOL)

Okay, where do I get the carrier........I'm guessing some soft-sided thing?, how do I check with the airlines.......would it just be carry on? And where can we meet for the "baby hand off?" I guess it would definitely have to be check out day, as the babies can't spend the night in POFQ! We won't have a rental car as we're using the free Disney coach. Do you think you need an excuse to visit Disney Marketplace that day?

Dh hates surprises...........better start "mentioning" this now!

I should probably tell you about my Boston Terrier. The good news is I'm a teacher and not teaching summer school this year (rejoice with me!) so plenty of time to teach him they aren't chew toys!

We tried for that, we really did! Ended up forgetting to pack my Clomid and had to wait another month!

LOL, you can check with the airlines, but I have seen people bring animal carriers on board and stow them under the seat.

(if this does end up seriously happening, which would be so cool!)

Too funny!

I would meet you at your resort, at Disney Marketplace, heck, I would meet you at the airport :car: - I'm only 20 minutes from there, and 40 min from WDW property! I'd even bring them to "meet" you a head of time!

I believe that some airlines allow cats to be in the cabins, you would need to check with your airline. You can get the nice soft sided carriers that I use for the cats at Wal-Mart, Petsmart, etc, they are very reasonable.

I was in watching the babies a bit ago....they were all curled up together sleeping. Luckily Tara has stayed asleep tonight, she crashed early, I was afraid she would be too worried about them to sleep. She has been extremely attentive...

I guess I need to add a page to my website with daily kitten updates!!!

awww, isn't it a beautiful thing to witness? I miss that time, it was so awesome.

Although Shenzi is still very affectionate and sleeps with only one of the female kittens mostly...every now and again, I will see her rub up against or snuggle with the other 3. But, the fact that she is the mother is most apparent now when theyplay a wee bit too rough. She will get very upset and make it clear that enough is enough...and they settle down.

definitely!!!

Not all arilines allow pets in cabins. Those that do require that they be in an FAA approved carrier--not all are, especially the softsided ones.

They also require the cat/dog be vaccinated for rabies and have a health certificate issued by a vet not more than ten days before commencing travel.

Some will not allow more than one animal per carrier. FAA restrictions are that not more than two carriers be in each cabin segment. You need to make an advance reservation for the animal with the carrier, the fee ranges from $50-100 each way per carrier.

I think the biggest issue is DME isn't going to allow them on the bus...

24 hour update... 5:00am
I was up early (went to sleep late - not enough sleep...) when Maia decided she wanted Princess to get up and play!

So I figured I would get the morning routine out of the way - turning on coffee, taking dogs out, giving them their morning treat, giving cats their morning treat (canteloupe) when all of a SUDDEN - there is Mommy Daphne on the counter. I guess she needed a break from the nest and was able to push the Mbath door open (double door- top latch not latched) - I instantly was worried that something was wrong that she would leave the babies alone, so I rushed in, and they were all curled up in two groups sleeping soundly. I guess she knew they were full, and warm and safe. I took her food back in and she followed, only to come back out a couple minutes later. She was having a drink of water (she has water in the nest) Kittens still quiet, but by now Tara is up (she slept in my room last night), so she was overseeing the babies! Everyone is back to sleep (except me of course!)'

I noticed this morning that the female that I was considering a tiger cat, I guess genetically would be considered a calico too - her face is white.

Today once Tara is not here, and I can do things without an audience I will try and get some better close ups of each and create a web page for all those who are interested in their progress. (In between working.....)

That's not an issue... I will get them to the airport LOL. I'm closer to the airport than WDW!!

- Vaccinations would be no problem, I would get them prior to the "handoff"

- Approved carriers could be purchased locally as well!

I knew that I had investigated flying with animals prior to moving the FL, but I could not remember all the details, and I know some is specific to individual airlines.

Thanks for the info!

I'm still trying to get DH to even discuss an addition, so far it's not even discussable... :(

Anne

Aww, what a cutie. My daughter had ferrets. I was always a little bit scared of them but did think they were very cute.

Listen, tell your DH that you only want one kitten. It could be worse and you could be like the crazy lady on the DIS that has 16 of them. :rotfl: That should put it all in perspective for him.

How many do you think is the "perfect" number of cats? I ask because we have 4 and people act like we are crazy. We also have 2 dogs and I can easily imagine once the dogs get old not getting more and getting a couple more cats. But then what will people thing? :rotfl2: I love the cats, they are great companions, easy to take care of (compared to dogs) and a lot of fun. If only they used to toilet. Ours stay inside, which is why I wouldn't plan on more than a couple more (hairs and litterboxes).

makinorlando, I'll look forward to the next round of pics!

I threw a quick page together this morning on my website.

I have so many things in mind that this will be a great family project for Tara and I. The daily weighing and calculating the gains, keeping track of their development (writing skills/putting things in sequence), etc.

I just tried to weigh the kittens, none were eating at the moment, and the one (Sarabi) started to cry - Daphne got right up and promptly picked her up off the scale and moved her back to the nest. (I was only 2 feet away from her on the floor!!!!)

Awesome, great project idea!

LOL, at what Daphne did. Shenzi would do the same thing when I was weighing the babies. They sure do not like to hear them cry.

Daphne was really mad at me earlier, I was trying to photograph the face of "Sarabi" - who is tiger looking, but I realize has a white face, so I guess that makes her a calico too! Anyway, I took her out of the closet, and she started to cry - Daphne was like "SUPER CAT" and in one leap and bound was on the bathroom vanity, with Sarabi's neck in her mouth.... I was afraid she would drop her jumping down, so I gently struggled with her so I could place her back in the nest.... Daphne grumpled and growled at me, and I took the hint that she wanted me to depart, promptly!

She's a good mama!!!! I got a couple more photos, and if they are good "headshots" I will post to the website! Tara wanted me to wait to weigh them until she got home from school, and that will be good, since it will be 24 hours.
