our cat (the little tramp that she is!) got out of our screen pool enclourse while she was in heat (I procrastinated on getting her spayed - shame on me!), and now we have kittens - at 2am my daughter comes running in and wakes me up saying KITTEN ALERT - the cat had given birth on the bed right next to DD... (ewww - DD handled it far better than I would have given the same circumstances - she is SOOO happy, she love animals and has begged for me to let one of our animals have babies) - :cat: :cat: :cat::cat::cat:

Well one hour later, we now have 3 babies (I sure hope she is done - but I know that there could be more!) They are all safely nestled in the closet in my MB bath - tile floors, large closet, easy to close off from the other animals. I have helped remove the placenta (can I say ewwww again), as she didn't seem to want anything to do with that and it just seemed to be in the way. She did not seem happy in the box that I prepared for them, so I put a big blanket on the floor and laid the box on the side next to them.

She is being a good mom, and they all look healthy and are active - she is a tiger cat, and I think I know who the daddy is - he was a mostly white calico - one of the kittens is a tiger, and two are calicos - one with black, and the other with gray. Last I looked she was cleaning up the last one that was born, and the others were nestled all snuggly under her!

Now the fun begins. I am hoping this is the thing that will finally teach my DD9 some responsibility - she is being very attentive at 3am - she didn't just want to go back to sleep. Since we suspected Daphne was pregnant - she really didn't "show" until this week.... DD has promised that she will help with anything she has to - and that she realizes that we won't be able to keep them all.

This is the part that makes me mad at my self for not getting her spayed - I am about trying to keep the animal population down, and now we have added to it! I hope that I might be able to find good homes for them! All but one of our animals (1 dog and 3 cats) came from rescues (our Yorkie is the only one we got from a breeder)..... but I just know this house is not large enough for three (+?) more cats!

(oh boy does that look scary..... I think my smily should be:drinking1 )

We are supposed to be off to MGM today - I guess we are not going to be there at opening!

Sunday 4:00ish Edited to add photo - I think we are done! Very hard to take pics of squirmy little kittens. Baby B is the one whose face you see (biggest), Baby A is the one under Baby B (mid-sized) and Baby C (smallest) is the orange one in the back that you see the leg sticking out. Smallest, but most vocal! Mommy is resting comfortably and continuing to clean love her babies!

Sun 7:20 am -NOT! When went back in to check about 1/2 hour later and there were 2 more.... another tiger coat and a darker coated calico (more black than tan/white)
We actually slept for a couple hours me on sofa, DD on love seat. All is well "in the nursery" - they are busy busy trying to nurse, and very cute.

I causally menyioned the idea of getting a kitten to DH, and was shot down in flames...

He told me that before I do anything I need to wait on the results of my allergy tests...I guess he's right--as usual. :guilty:

Well, I will GLADLY drive one to Clermont in 8-12 weeks for you! ;)

They are very cute. I've been sitting in the closet with them just watching them. DD took some more photos with her disposable, and the video.

I think I failed cat anatomy, and have to re-visit the genders....Thanks poohandwendy.... I've got 2 calicos-so I pretty sure to have 2 females at least.... (I have to adult calicos, and KNOW that it is rare to have a male calico)!

Our yorkie is Maia, and my sister's yorkie is Thor - going with the mythological God's/Godesses....

Same here.
They are cute but Pleassseeee make sure mom is spayed ASAP.

Awwww. they are beautiful! Kittens are such a joy for the whole household. Congratulations grandmeowma!!!

My cat, Shenzi, had a litter of 8 kittens last August 1st (we kept 4 of them)...this is a link of a thread I started when the day they were born (with pics), in case you are interested:

Also, if you have any questions for someone who has 'been there, done that'...just let me know!

ETA, if you are mostly interested in seeing the pics I posted, it might be easier to just do a search on my screenname and 'find all posts by user'...then you wll have to go back til around august to find the pics. There are tons of them, LOL.

Please believe me I will... I am so disappointed :sad2: in myself that I let this happen. I feel like an irresponsible pet owner. All the rest of our animals were promptly spayed and time just got away from my this past year

She is a house cat, and should not have been out, but found a small hole in the screened pool enclosure which she made bigger to get to the "boy".

As cute as they are, and as much as my DD wants the experience of helping to raise the babies, this world did not need 5 more kittens to find homes for! DD is on top of the world though, and she knows we will not keep them 5 pets in our house is enough!. Maybe some lessons in responsibilty will come out of this.

Thanks. I need to get them on the scale and weighed, and I need to get some formula. There is one I am concerned that might not be getting enough... Iris (the only female - I think) doesn't seem to be finding the right spots. Daphne is being very good about letting us handle them, I did move them all from the blanket to a lined box for a moment to change out the blanket- Daphne did not like being in the box, nor having her babies in there... I guess for now we will leave them be on the floor in the closet, as they can be safely isolated from the dogs and other cats!

I love their names too! We had primarily boys in our litter too, 5 boys and 3 girls.

Please keep us updated with pictures of their progress! They will grow and change so quickly, you will be glad to have a record of their 'growing up'. (until they go with their forever families)

Also, I have to ask...have you niticed if your litter has a 'screamer'? Meaning, one that is more vocal and cries more (especially when trying to find a nipple to eat).

LOL, it seems like every litter has one.

Yes the girl (figures) she is the one I need to keep an eye on to make sure she is getting enough to eat!

Awww, I love kittens. My little kitten we got at Christmas is already getting pretty big so it was nice to see some other kittens. You have to post more pictures as they are getting older. What an amazing opportunity. I would love to see a mommy cat with her kittens.

Congratulations!

Wow, this brings back such memories. Shenzi had her kittens in the closet too. Definitely keep her in the closet and away from the other animals...our other cat, Tucker, got in the room accidentally once (not even close to the closet)...and yowsa, was Shenzi UNHAPPY..some fur flew and while Tucker was still very curious and stayed by our door smeling , but he learned a very valuable lesson...don't mess with mama!!!

Yes, you may need to supplement the smallest one...a litter of 5 is pretty decent size and sometimes those littlest ones have a hard time getting in there for a nipple...its amazing how aggressive they are to get milk! Good news is, your Daphne has 8 nipples...so there are a bunch to choose from, LOL.

I basically supplemented by weighing daily and then supplementing the ones who seemed to make the least weight gain. It all worked out in the end...they all thrived and are healthy, 7 month old demons, I mean kittens...LOL
