Our Room was sparkling clean, in a wonderful location with a fab view.... Even saw Hot Air Balloons take off in the mornings... :woohoo:

BUT.....

I nearly cracked my skull open every time I had to walk from the elevator to my room on the wet outside corridors. WOW they are slippery when wet... I am surprised more people haven't hurt themselves or even posted about it here...

I tweeked my back avoiding a fall, one of my kids wiped out pretty good...

They are horrible!

The Bellman said... Oh.. it's only bad when it rains... Ummm this is Central Florida.... Doesn't it rain a lot... Then he commented on how glad he was to have his luggage cart to hold onto... gee... where's MINE!

Anyone else find them to be too slippery for comfort? I can't imagine someone who is unsteady on their feet being able to walk down that hallway safely.

It was wet for hours after the rain stopped with large puddles to negotiate. Bleh.

This was my third stay at SSR, and I am done with it... DH agrees... it's not the resort for us. We can't place our fingers on it... I mean on the outside it's a lovely resort, with great amenities, fab views, etc... we should love it... but we dont, we hate it.... and if it's the only resort available we wont even book it and waitlist somewhere else... :upsidedow

But that's why there is Chocolate, Vanilla, and Strawberry... :cool1:

Wow - Thanks for the pictures!

We never really had such a problem with the slippery halls; guess DW & I just walk too slow when on vacation! ;)

I didn't think you were allowed to smoke on the balconies?

Even when wet? Or are other hallways more sheltered from the rain? The bellman had also told us, that "this was nothin and we should try walking on it after they have mopped with bleach... then it's really slippery!"

Thanks for posting the pictures!

You are not allowed to smoke on the balconies, but many people still do. I could not smell the smoke from the pictured balcony or I would have called to complain... I did however take our big camera out and point it at them, and he scurried back inside.... after flickin his lit butt over the balcony

Never had any problems with them being slippery and it has rained every time we go. Maybe the type of shoes is the difference. :confused3

Ditto! 4 stays so far, the worst came last Feb when there was rain, sleet and near snow (30 degrees) and we travel 6-8 in our party, never have had a problem! Must be the shoes!

There are DVC resorts I prefer over others but in the end I would stay at any of them, I find things I like at all of them even BLT and all of it's modernity!

I can vouch for a shoe type issue. I remember when they painted the concrete entry at my work, then the first time it rained, it was as slippery as ice! It wasn't until I happened to realize it was OK with another pair of shoes that it was not just the surface.
Unfortunately, I think someone did or nearly broke her hip, then they placed an outdoor safety rug over the area until they could get the paint removed.

So, while shoes can be a temporary solution, as an owner @ SSR I would be very mad if I found management ignored a CM's safety complaint and never did anything (ie sand texture in the paint) to prevent potential injuries.

I totally agree. Are they waiting for a serious accident? Laura

Great pics and lovely view!! I miss Congress Park but our next SSR stay is at THV!!

Sorry you hurt yourself. I found I had to quit wearing my crocs, because the tread wears off fast and I slid and fell on the wet grass 1 morning. That was it for me!

Love SSR, hate strawberry ice cream:)

crocs are very slippy when it is raining. I have fallen over several times when I walk to work in them and it has been raining

I was wearing sneakers... I asked my husband if he slipped and he said his Teva's were more slippery than his sneakers but he slipped with both.

My son was wearing his sneakers also.

And it's good to know this isnt a rampant issue at SSR... perhaps our hallway had just been cleaned with the bleach like the bellman noted... But we felt we were in training for Curling as we skidded back and forth...

We had a great vacation, and the view was lovely. Kids had a great time, great family vacation. But my husband and I wished we were somewhere else...

We checked out on the 17th during a heavy downpour. While we were loading the car a man slipped and fell on an inside corridor. He was ok, but I'll bet he was sore for a day or so. Didn't notice what shoes he was wearing, but I agree with Crocs being unsafe on wet surfaces. I was walking on the Boardwalk after it had been hosed down and it was slippery like a hockey rink.

Love SSR and strawberry ice cream. :lovestruc

Also many times it is more about what you have walked through, oil, grime etc gets on the bottom of your shoes and you can no contact with the surface.

And I too have slipped at the Boardwalk when it was wet, wood that gets dirty then wet can really be slippery.

:lmao: When DH first started wearing Crocs he didn't know how slippery they were when wet. He came home one night and said " man, it was like I was in the Matrix". The manuevers he had to do to keep from falling. I didnt know he was so flexible. :rotfl:

Wow! I'll definitely be paying attention to that potential hazard! I broke my leg when I fell down some stairs in Epcot almost 3 years ago. Since then I have been super cautious about making sure I have secure footing. I sure don't want to repeat that experience!:scared1:

We checked out during the same downpour at VWL. What a miserable day it was. I really felt bad for the cast members and the valet workers who were soaked. At least we didn't see any falls.

Laurabearz-

With others making comments such as yours ...I will do the same as a fellow SSR owner.

You should call Member Services with your comment/complaint. Especially if that makes SSR no longer a selection for your future stays. When you say something to a CM...although they are thoughtful and considerate of what occurred...they can do little other than relay it. Sometimes in the "communication chain" it doesn't get to someone who could actually do something about the situation/ or reconsider the process or materials that they are using to wash the outer walkways.

If enough people report similar problems to the "right source" things might change. I love SSR as a location because of access to Downtown Disney a brief walk away.

Good Luck!
