Ok, this is getting old. This is my 3rd uti in just over a year. Going to the dr. first thing in the morning. As a co-worker once said to me, it feels like I'm peeing razor blades and on occasion there is blood.

Grr....I know there was a thread about this recently but can't find it. Does anyone have any suggestions what I can do on a regular basis to help keep these away?

I drink Cranberry juice(most of the time with Vodka:lmao:) or eat Crazins everyday. Drink your minium of 8 glasses of water a day. And make sure you do not go to sleep after "adult relations" without going potty. Also don't hold it in during the day go when you have to.

My sister had to deal with this - month after month - for close to two years.. (She's older - mid 60's..) She ended up having a test done that showed that her bladder was never fully emptying.. She had a procedure done (can't remember the name of it) - had to take a specific medication for a month - and has been UTI free for over 8 months now!!! :thumbsup2

You might want to ask your doctor about that.. Her life was pretty miserable dealing with that on a constant basis, so I can imagine how you're feeling..

Good luck at your appointment! :goodvibes

I think I was the one with the UTI thread this weekend! :rotfl:

They SUCK!!!

Thankfully, mine is 100% better today, thanks to the antibiotics and the AZO Standard :worship:

Have you bought any of that yet?

I got my UTI on Wednesday morning, and by Thursday morning, I was feeling 99.9% better! (This was after my first antibiotic, AZO, and cranberry supplement.) Today was the first day I could say I feel 100% normal again!

Drink lots of water, take AZO, and get a script from your doctor.

Feel better!!!

What is AZO? I remember now a lot of references to it on the other thread. Where do you find it?

Oh, man. I'm am so sympathetic. I've had ONE uti as an adult and I thought I was going to die. I nearly passed out on the potty the pain was so bad. Hope you can get some relief soon and find out why they keep recurring. I think once you find that out you'll know better how to prevent them.

And yes, you can find AZO in the drugstore. I have also seen dried cranberry tablets with the vitamins and supplements. Apple juice works as well as cranberry juice, BTW. If nothing else, sit in a warm bath to relax everything down there.

I've only ever had one UTI and that was more than I could handle:sick:

AZO was a godsend! The Dr. recommended it right after handing me my prescription for antibiotics. Found it at the drugstore with no problem.

When I kept getting UTIs, it turned out I had a kidney stone. You might want to have it checked out.

OP-how you feel better soon

My DM77 is still trying to get over a nasty one. UTI's and the elderly are not a good thing. She had fallen several times, even was talking like my grandfather who died in 77 was still here. She had another urine test on friday, yesterday they called back saying bacteria is still in there, so another round of medications, as well as cranberry juice.

Men, and the sensitive, look away.

I used to get killer UTI's, used to get them all the time. Then I was given two really good pieces of advice by a wonderful lady Gyn. She wasn't my regular Dr; but after a particular nasty and hard to kill UTI I had a test run that "typed" the bugs causing the UTI, and she was the ER doc that read the test. Turns out it was a rare bug, and it was her belief that it had colonized either the skin of my or DH's body, especially The Area In Question. Happens a lot, apparently, kind of like how staph bugs live on your skin.

The bacteria live there in that region happily, until the actions of intimate relations force them up into the urinary tract. They then begin to migrate upwards and multiply and cause UTIs and kidney infections.

Anyhow, she said always always ALWAYS urinate after intimate relations, more than once if possible. This will wash the bacteria back down and out again. Also, a quick swipe before and after The Deed with an antibacterial wipe in the general region may help too - cut down on the bacteria that are living there waiting to be banged around. NEVER let yourself fall asleep without a trip to the potty afterwards.

I know, to this day, if I fall asleep after enjoying marital relations without a visit to the potty, I will be writhing on the floor, peeing blood, in agony, within 24 hours. :scared1:

Oh man, do I feel like garbage! Got a script for cipro, waiting for the mailman to drop off the mail. I am expecting a check and figure I can deposit the check on the same trip as I pick up the script.

My head hurts, I have a dull, chronic ache "down there", no fever, overall just want to curl up in bed for several hours.

I'm going to pick up some AZO and cranberry capsules while at the drugstore. I will do ANYTHING to make this better!

Log in name changed to protect the not-so-innocent.

I suffered from many UTIs and I would go from "I think I'm getting one" to passing clots and blood in a matter of a couple hours.

I too had developed a bacteria via my DH and nothing worked. I drank water prior, washed prior, went to the bathroom immediately after, etc.

What finally worked was the um, wrapped the offending member, if you know what I mean and I've not been bothered with UTIs since (though I still do all the other stuff).

Just another practical suggestion

All very good suggestions, but what I found works great (for me at least) is to take 1000 milligrams of vitamin C (with absorbic acid) within 12-24 hours of having "relations". The acid in the vitamin C will wash away any bad bacteria that got up there. I found that just urinating doesn't do it for me. This is the only thing that works.

I once heard that wearing thong undies has an increased risk because the thong is in closer proximity to the "source" of the bacteria and it can more easily "slide" down the thong unlike regular panties. She said lots of young women who wear them are getting them more frequently.

Not sure if this applies, but thought I would mention it.

Ugh! I understand the premise, but believe me, you would never find me in a thong. I've tried them, at hubby's request :rotfl:, and they are the MOST uncomfortable garment I have ever worn!

Apologies to those who like them!

ITA. Not my thing either. Just thought I would mention it!

I had a UTI when I was around 9 or 10. I got it from wiping the wrong way when going potty.
I know how you feel. It DOES feel like peeing razor blades. I took some medicine that made my pee turn orange. I could only feel good going potty if I went in the shower. The medication made me pee every 2 minutes it felt like. So, I had to go in and out of the shower.

I finally fell asleep and when I woke up, I peed myself.

It hurt so much.
