Dancing With the Stars - Spring 2017

Normani and Val –
Freestyle – “What the World Needs Now is Love”

I wonder how Val's going to sex-pot up "What the World Needs Now is Love". It's such a sweet song but I envision some contemporary ballroom grinding which will completely ruin it.

Yeah, I can't believe THAT is their Freestyle choice!   :faint:
I hope Val picked an upbeat rendition of it.

I wish that Rossy and Rashad were doing different dances. This way viewers will compare them head to head leaving Nomani with her own type of dance. Definitely not fair.

I agree. They have two slow songs to her quickstep. Usually people snooze through the slower songs. And Rossi usually does better with the quicker songs. Rashad can go either way.

I have to wonder :scratchin if they actually got to pick their Freestyle songs this season? :confused3 Mandy mentioned to me before the season began that DWTS has a new showrunner this season. Maybe the couples were given a list this year of songs to pick from as their Freestyle? And these were the best songs? :confused3

All I can think of with Rossy's Freestyle song is the Target commercial that used it with Carly Rae Jepsen and Little Yachty:rotfl:

There's an older, "It Takes Two," that I was thinking of. :scratchin It's an oldie by Marvin Gaye & Kim Weston. It's about being a couple. Rossi is very much into his family. So he might dedicate it to his wife & family? :confused3 And it seems to be a better fit with the even older, ""Take Me Out to the Ballgame."

first thing popped into my head was Lets Go Crazy by Prince

As for "Let's Go." I found 3 different songs on YouTube. One by Lil Jon that sounds much more Rashad's kind of song. Plus, wasn't Lil Jon a guest judge once? So, he'd give the show the rights to do his song. Ritchie Valens did a very dance-able, "Come On, Let's Go." And I also thought of "Lets Go Crazy" by Prince.

I like your choice better for him..but they list by Rob Base & DJ EZ Rock :confused3

the Lets Go is the puzzler, maybe Robin solved it

I found the rendition they are using and it's a super slow snoozer. I think it's going to very rhumba sex-on-the-dancefloor kind of performance but done as a contemporary. To show her range ... she can be a sex-pot at all speeds.

its a hip hop song but Rossy does well when he can have fun and be a character.

I'm starting to get concerned about this. hahaha

I hope Rashad can pull it out.

 :crazy2: It doesn't sound like it's going to be family appropriate for everyone to watch.

I'm going to be missing both nights it looks like because of practice and travel.

I'll catch the dances tonight on YouTube after they put them up.

I'm honestly surprised there are only standard dances on the final...

It Takes Two by Rob Base is the original version way before Carly Rae Jepson. Well, I don't remember every hearing it before Rob base released it (yes, I'm that old :)).

While I'm favoring David, I don't think I'd have a problem with Rashad or Normani winning either.

The dances tonight will be the deciding factor for me.

Make sure to vote online if you can!

They like to change things up, but I'm thinking back to other finals and they usually have a standard dance and a freestyle and then there is also a challenge-type dance for the final night. Looking back at the Wiki they did the fusion dance in season 21 and 22 (didn't look farther back) but not 23.

The Fusion dance will be on Tues. It is the final dance that the judges vote for before their votes are added onto Monday nites votes and the winners are announced.
I could be wrong but I always think of the Fusion dance on the last night as a way for the producers to make sure that their "Star" wins or rather another "Star" comes in second or third. Depending on the voting results from last week and Monday night, which we don't get to see, the judges Fusion scoring could actually cause someone else to win instead of the viewer votes.

I've always thought that the fusion dance was a way for the judges to exert more control over the outcome of the show, but looking back they maybe score someone with 9's instead of 10's (and *those* dancers are always 3rd). I don't know how much those scores are worth in placement.

I know, but the commercial is what pops in my head, lol

Rossy's dance is going to be cray-cray:

Here we go! The FINALS Part 1!!! :yay: :woohoo:

Who else is here?

Yes, I said that a page further back, only longer. :D I'm glad we agree. :thumbsup2 Still not sure what their percentage of the votes are though.

No, it's not 50/50. They changed that when Bristol Palin made it to the Finals. The producers didn't want their DANCE show hijacked for political reasons, or some other reason, so they introduced that the judges get one more final vote to make sure that the winners won because of dancing. So that's why they get an extra vote on Tues. The math for voting became so convoluted that Tom had to point to some chart they created to show how the voting worked out. I never could figure it out, but I assumed the math would have been called out to be incorrect, if it is. So I *think* the judges get 60% for the scoring, if not more.

The judges USUALLY just score everyone equally the same, so their votes probably don't change anything. But, it definitely did for Bristol as they only gave her 8s while the other two contestants got 9s & 10s. The only other time that I can recall that they didn't vote the same for each couple was when Ginger screwed up and they had to mark her down. And there may be one other time where they didn't score them all the same.
