"Dance Moms" on Lifetime

Dance Moms is currently filming at the Co Dance convention being held in chicago-my dd17 is attending this convention and I'm here also. Last night Melissa ran thru the lobby out the door to Michigan Ave talking on her cell phone, she had no coat on and never did come back in. This afternoon when I was leaving the hotel around 115 the other 3 moms were having pictures taken with some of the guests and talking to them, they were soon whisked away by the filming crew.

When DD and I went out shopping this evening, we saw Holly, she about got picked off by a police car as she crossed the street when seh shouldn't have. That's about all I've seen of them- I know some of the others from our studio watched the comp last night and were in the background of the filming.

Some of the others from our studio have seen Abby and Maddy and Chloe and have gotten pics with them. A by did attend the teachers lunch today and talked to the other teachers about the show and how they protray her as being meaner than she is.

Sitting in the lobby/bar area now and there is no sign-although they did tell one of the mom's from our studio they are keeping them in their rooms pretty much.

have found out there will be an interesting turn of events.

Stay tuned.......

Compared to the rest of them, I would agree, but her technique is awful. My son says she is painful to watch because she butchers the basics.

:thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2 These are acro kids who compete, not dancers. Their technique is horrible. Your son is SO correct! Also... how do we know the age of the dancers, as stated on the show (which I've never heard), is accurate? DD's studio does one competition a year... to be on team gives the advanced dancers a chance to explore more complicated routines and express themselves more creatively than in classes. You can't be on the junior team until you are in level 3 ballet, which requires 1.5 hrs of ballet technique class three days a week; by 2nd semester, 30 mins of pointe is added at least once a week (depending on whether it's beginner pointe or 1st/2nd year). Senior team members are in level 4B or higher, taking 4 ballet classes (2.5 hrs each; 1.5 of techniques and 1 hour of follow up- variations, partnering, pointe) a week; most of these kids also take modern and jazz. To be on team, you can't just be good at tricks, you have to be a good dancer, first.

yup...they are real.

You can often find the results online (i.e. the DTI comp from episode 2 this season in Columbus Ohio). They really do manipulate the public into thinking they end doing better than they do. That competition for example had 36 top performers in that age group and Abby's girls? They captured only 2 of those 36.

This season they are at some real comps, last season, they were scrambling for stuff as they started filming much too late.

My DH's, cousin's wife(got that?) runs a studio. They were just in Springfield MA for a competition and the Dance Moms were there.

Is anyone else happy to see Paige and Chloe doing so well? I love Chloe...I think because my son resembles her(no, he doesn't look like a girl, but they have some of the same facial features).

Some of the results are shown skewed. One show a couple weeks back said Chloe couldn't beat Maddy. When, in fact, they were in two different categories and Chloe won hers. The group also won according to the on line results but the show says they didn't.

Also Nia won a scholarship of some kind in one competition but it was never mentioned on the show.

This year is full of manufactured drama.

Yes! Paige did sooo well on last nights episode. She and her sister are both so beautiful I can't stand it.

I know reality shows are scripted most of the time, but the scripted drama is really obvious on this shower. (EDIT: I meant show but I'm leaving shower because WTH?) The massages, Payton trying out for Candy Apples (heck, Payton in her entirety seems scripted) even the costume drama seemed sketchy.

I saw the full dance performance that Maddie did on YouTube and she gets right back up after she falls. I wonder how amped up that was. Agreed with Kelly that if any other dancer fell, Abby wouldn't have been so kind.

I don't know why I'm sucked into this show -but I love it.

On last night's episode, Maddie wasn't carried off the floor injured. She barely paused after she fell and she completed the routine.

Someone in the audience at the competition videoed all of the girls performing and posted it on youtube.

Obviously, reality tv is far from reality.

They typically film two performances - the legit one in front of the judges and another one presumably to get the dance from all angles for the show. I would bet she fell during the second take, especially since she placed third according to results posted online.

Btw, anyone got any dirt on why Kendall is now dancing with Candy Apples, as recently as this past weekend? I wonder if we will see any fallout this season or not.

They were actually at real comps last season too. This season they are having a bear of a time finding quality comps because they have been shut out of so many (over 30 have publicly stated they will NOT allow Dance Moms to film). In fact they ended up in Texas last episode because DanceXplosion (the comp they were supposed to dance at) cancelled after they informed the other competitive teams that Dance Moms would be there and were met with outrage. The Texas comp (MA Dance) is not even geared towards studio competitors..............it's for academic dance teams.color guards, baton twirlers etc..

Even Starbound, who they've competed at multiple times on the show, has now publicly stated they will not allow the film crews to return. It's going to be awfully hard to continue to produce this show without cooperation from the dance competition industry.

Wow! :sad2:

I knew parts of this show were made up for TV but never to this extent.

Just saw this week's show. Jill was peeved about Abby putting Kendall on probation yet again and the bottom of the pyramid. Jill stormed out and took her over to the Candy Apples to show up Abby. At the competition, Kendall won the individual dance in her age group. I
You go Jill!!!!! This week, Nia was on top of the pyramid and it was she Kendall went up against. Holly said she felt it was a punch right in the gut and her daughter was used as a pawn. They left the competition early. Her daughter danced really well but Kendall was just better. Jill felt much more welcomed at Candy Apples and felt the instructor there (Cathy) was not so condescending. One of the other dance moms compared Abby and the other teacher to Freddy Kruger and Jason. Kendall seemed sad not to dance with her friends at Abby but was happy she got to dance and wasn't on probation. Cathy corrected a lazy leg problem Kendall had with positive reinforcement. Cathy and Abby confront each other yet again.

Omg I freaking can't stand Jill and Cathy.

For those of you that are "dance moms" and want positive reinforcement for your child, please follow the FB page: Positive Dance Moms (and Dads)

It sends a more positive message than the show Dance Moms.

As the owner of a dance studio, I'm saddened that this show is still on TV. It is far from reality for most dance studios. It's embarrassing for the kids and their parents.

I watched the first season, but have chosen not to watch this season as I don't want any part of keeping the ratings up for this show.

Abby Lee has been removed from Dance Masters of America: http://www.dancestudiolife.com/2012/02/dance-masters-of-america-dumps-abby-lee-of-dance-moms/

I would imagine that very few viewers believe that all or most studios are like the ones on the show.

I have a friend who is a long time dance teacher, about the same age as Abby. She loves the show. She thinks it is funny but unreal. But her studio is not like that at all and none of the other ones she knows are either.

For Dance Moms its all about TV. And it has escalated this year. Abby yells more, the moms yell more and get bleeped more. The Kendall/Candy Apples thing? Come on. Candy Apples is 2 hours away from ALDS. There arent 4000 other studios in Pittsburgh she could go to? Well, they aren't part of the TV show. And that wouldn't be as fun to watch! :lmao:

Unfortunately, for someone who has no idea what a dance studio is "about" they may perceive this as somewhat true. :sad2:

It's tough to market to the mother of a 3 year old that might watch this show, even knowing it's "just TV" but has this preconceived notion that part of it might be true.

I look at it this way.........say one of my DD's had wanted to become involved in an activity & chooses karate. I see a show like this, portraying the karate field in a negative light. I know that it's just TV but I also think to myself, "You know what, I don't want my child to have any experience remotely like that. Let's try something else." She's young enough that the activity really doesn't matter, she just wants to do something. I have now taken karate out of the mix.

These are just my thoughts, opinions and the way I feel about how the show portrays the dance world to those that know nothing about it.

I also have many teacher/owner friends who love the show & some who will never, ever watch it.
