Dance Moms - anyone still watching?

I high school facebook friend of mine in RI recently posted that her daughter spent a few days with Abby Lee and her dance company and it was a great experience. I asked for more info because I know what I see on TV. She said the Mom's all got along and Abby Lee was really nice and didn't yell once.

She said it was all scripted for TV. That kind of made me sick. Those Mom's letting someone scream at their children week after week for money. I guess it's no different than being a child actor but to me it just seemed a little sick.

I didn't really like seeing the girls doing the show, it seemed unfair to have them in very specific pairs or threes. I did like that Chloe seemed to be the host or moderator. It seemed very forced to ask them what their favorite dances were of themselves and what they like about each other, and to ask about Brooke and Paige was in very poor taste... And poor Vivy having to endure being asked about having a crush on one of the boys and if she likes the dancing part or hanging out part of being around her Mom.

See, now I thought it was a good idea to only show a few of them at a time. I've seen big groups of girls together and I think if there were more of them at once it would be a big ole talking mess.

I thought Nia looked beautiful. I loved Chloe's dress. I thought Maddie looked like a hot mess. What was the fake hair? Mackenzie is really growing into a petty young lady too.

Just curious to know why you didn't like when they picked their favorite dances? You'd think that dancers would have favorite dances they've done.

It really bothered me that they didn't have any questions for Nia. We didn't even get to see one of her solos. Just sick of the poor child being treated like an afterthought.

The girl party video was a dude. The costumes were cute a fun, but the singing was just bad. I was surprised they didn't have the cameras glued on Maddie.

Anyone here watching Bring It? Love, Love them.

I thought that almost everything they said as probably a question that they regularly answer at their meet and greets. I assume that the viewer questions were reviewed with them before they started filming. The parts I thought were awkward were "I have a surprise for you, it's my video that you're not in!", Payton's weird lack of annunciation and most of Vivi's segment. I would have liked them to ask Vivi if she gets to play softball. Also, at the end they all should have been there.

Disclosure: I haven't seen the whole show, only clips on YouTube

I thought it was fine having them in groups and it seemed generally pretty balanced. To me, the groupings seemed based on age order (Payton -> Nia -> Maddie -> Kendall, then Mackenzie and Asia). Maybe they could have had Mackenzie with Vivi instead of Maddie, but that would be the only change I would have made to the lineup, and they may have had more reasoning for that, like maybe Maddie was better at filling in Vivi's awkward pauses (no offence to the kid, she just isn't good at that sort of thing, and I don't think it interests her at all). I think the questions were all fine - they are always asked stuff like that at meet and greets and the girls all would have known what they were being asked in advance. I actually thought the questions about the Hyland girls were very nice. They were a big part of the show and a big part of those girls' lives, so it's only fair that they got to talk about them. The nasty business with Kelly and Abby wasn't mentioned, just their love for those two girls. It seemed like a really nice tribute to Brooke and Paige, who did not do anything wrong.

I felt bad for Nia. There was zero attention to her like asking her what her favorite dance was or showing her dance. I wonder if Nia or Holly requested this or was she left out?

Honestly I think it was just what would fit into a 1 hour show. Also, they did the whole bit about her learning the 'death drop' from the drag queen and how she loves to do it now. She did have some moments.

I don't know how what they did could even be construed as singing! Most of it was auto tuned!

I love the show with the girls! I'd rather watch that then the reunion. It's a nice break from all the screaming and yelling.

Did anybody catch what Maddie said when they were discussing when Abby had their scores adjusted? It was Chloe's "one shot" ? It's horrible but I really can't stand that kid. I loved when Payton said 'Oh but it was the floor's fault, not Maddie's. It's never Maddie's fault.' Ha!

That show makes me want to bash my head against the wall lol.
My little sister watches it ALL THE TIME, episode after episode, re-run after re-run. Last year during her summer intensive at Goffrey she met the entire cast and much to her dismay, the entire show is scripted.

She still loves it though.
I think it's funny, every dance school she's ever been part of has had as much drama as the show portrays, if not more lol.

I did notice when Maddie said that and wondered if it was coming from her or the writers. Either way, I think the day of reckoning is coming for Maddie & it's going to be rough. When Maddie wasn't heavily featured in the music video I thought again about Chloe being left out. Reminded me of a girl from our dance studio who got a part on Glee as a dancer in a number w/ Kate Hudson. The girl is a platinum blonde and was made to mousey brown it up for the show -- so she wouldn't draw focus. The camera loves Chloe. Take another look at McKenzie. She's blossoming into a beauty & right now the camera favors her more than Maddie, who is going through a bit of an awkward phase. That's show biz & those kinds of things are very harsh, even at your neighborhood studio.

I wanted to hear more from Nia. She's maturing so much & I expect great things from her, which doesn't mean just dance. Would not be surprised to see something in 15 years or so asking, remember Nia from the show dance moms, you won't believe what she's accomplished in the years since the show.

My favorite part of the Girl Talk episode was actually the outtake of Nia touching Maddie's hair. I thought that a lot of Maddie's dialog seemed less than genuine, but on the show her mother is also terrible at delivery, so I try to write it off as they're just bad actresses. Plus she's a kid, so I expect that a lot of her opinions and attitudes are influenced by adults around her. In the last episode of the season, I actually thought Melissa came off as the most genuine she's ever been on that show and I liked her interviews for probably only the second time ever. The reality of the business that this show portrays is that not every dancer or every actress will be treated equally. If this show were a one hour drama, the girls would not have equal screen time or equal pay and there would be other inequities. And as far as Chloe not being in the video, even though it came off as mean on the show, honestly, she shouldn't been in it. Kalani was also too old and too tall for a 9 year old's video and drew my attention in a distracting way. If she hadn't been there, it probably would have been Nia or Kendall who seemed out of place. Of course, the real problem wasn't the video, it was 4 minutes of autotune that really made it unbearable.

Agreed. Awful to not a like a kid at all, but we are not Maddie fans in this house.

And can someone explain to me WHY Vivy was even on there? No offense, but she serves no purpose. Does she even dance anymore? She definately doesn't seem to want to be there nor in any scene she's in on the show. Where were Kendall and Kalani?

I'm not a Maddie fan either I felt she was pretty mean during the interview.

I feel bad for vivy, it seems like her mom really wants her daughter to be in dance but she seems to have no interest in it at all...

I grew up 10 mins from the Abby Lee Studio. Many of my friends danced there growing up! I danced for a studio owned by Kelly's sister Carrie. I loved the show at first. I still love watching Chloe dance. And I think Nia is such a sweet genuine girl. But I absolutely cannot stand Abby!!

You must live close to me☺. My daughter danced for Carrie too!

Has everyone seen the video for Sia's new song 'Chandelier'? I'm not normally a big Maddie fan, and the video is kind of creepy, but she is absolutely incredible in it! Makes me wish even more that Abby would give her a different dance once in awhile.

That video was awful. I wish I could unsee it. I like the song, though.
