Dance Moms - anyone still watching?

Was anyone else creeped out by the stuffed dog on the mother's bed at the nursing home? I would have nightmares if that was in my bed. The dog was much cuter when it was alive.

Lol! Yes!

Since I always watch this one, I thought I' give the other show (new) about children dancing a try-only problem is that I don't remember the name. Can someone help me? And how do you think it is?

Bring it?

I like it. That teacher seems to really care about her girls as people, not just dancers.

:) Hi, dance mom here. I flip flop from liking the show and just hating all the drama. I'm not into all of that. There's enough at my DD's studio I don't need to see more.

My DD and her team competed with the Dance Mom girls and were in the Dancer's Care episode that aired in January. It was a fun experience, didn't see any drama but then again, Abby wasn't there because her mom was very ill at the time. Chloe wasn't there either, sadly.

DH's cousin owns a studio and sometimes is at the same competitions.

She said they are run different when the ALDC is there. Abby's dancer run the dances more than once(only judged once) and the awards are all on the same day. I guess usually it's not like that.

She went into more detail but I know next to nothing about dance so...

True! They did their numbers twice, for TV purposes, getting the number from all the angles. The competition that we did was pretty small, it was a fundraiser so it was small enough that the awards would all be on one day anyway.

And the moms are only in the audience during the performances for ALDC. As soon as their dance is done they go back to the dressing room.

Kalani's mom looks better, way better. I think she had the mole removed...

That crap of having Kelly's picture on the pyramid was ridiculous, the producers are really pushing it in my opinion and Abby's jealously and hatred of Kelly is the best story line they could have exploited..

Do you mean Bring It?

That's it, thanks! I set up to record it. I wonder if it's good. I haven't watched the "Dance Moms" episode with Kelly's photo on the pyramid. That's just over the top, as far as I'm concerned. The first few years I was half buying that maybe this show was somewhat real. Now-it's totally too much!

Classy...

In fairness, this is NORMAL at dance competitions. My DD used to dance competitively and the moms of the girls on her team rarely, if ever, sat through the dances of other dancers. We would go in just before they were supposed to go on (staying in their designated dressing area until just before), and leave when they did (back to the dressing room). The vast, vast majority of the audience comes to watch THEIR dancers and that's it.

I suppose that's the difference between dance and cheer competitions. We always sat and watched every other group.

Agreed. That was just juvenile and odd.

In the case of the competitions that I've attended (DGD is a dancer) Moms will assist backstage in the case where a dancer needs a costume change. I.e., the dancer participates in a group dance and a solo. DGD competed this past weekend and was in 3 group routines and one solo. All in different costumes and with different hairstyles. She couldn't have done it herself--especially the hair part.

I'm not a fan of the TV show but I sure enjoy the live competitions. Some studios dress their dancers like they are in search of a pole as a prop:crazy2: and the difference in choreography between studios is interesting.

Anybody but me hoping Christie was going to say, well, Abby, I'm sure I don't have her number to call her anymore. You said I had to choose between my friends and the ALDC.

Anybody watching this show and entertaining ideas of working with this production company on anything in the future is a fool. Kelly on top the pyramid last night was clearly a production choice. Abby may be a nasty beast, but at the end of the day I do believe she's a nasty beast caught in a trap. Everyone on that show should be afraid, because the producers are obviously reading online and playing up or countering the online discussions -- Maddie face, complimenting Chloe, etc. I suspect the ratings had been dropping & the lawsuit perked things up again -- I know that's what made my friends watch again & pull me into it too. This thing has been a cash cow & they're obviously the type of people to do anything to keep it on its feet.

That's it exactly. My DD never went to a competition where she performed only one routine. Often as many as three (jazz, ballet, tap) All with different costumes AND hair styles, sometimes with turnarounds of less than 20 minutes. There is simply no way she could have done that on her own in that time frame.

I've never been to a cheer competition....do they do multiple routines?

Each cheer team competes as a group and only does one routine, but individual girls may compete with more than one team. They are called "crossovers" because they cross over to more than one team.

My DD is a crossover this year. She will be competing this weekend in a two-day competition where each of her teams compete twice. Fortunately, each team has the same uniform, hair, and makeup--this year and for this competition. That has not always been the case. One team at her gym (a higher level) has different uniform tops so those crossovers have to change. Also, my DD has had to change her hairstyle mid-competition when she crossed over in the past. It all depends. She will need to change her hair bow only this weekend.

My daughter does Allstar Cheer & there is no way I could sit and watch every team competing...Most comps start before 9am and go until 7-10pm. Typically parents filter in and out throughout the day & watch the teams against theirs and then the other teams from their gym. They definitely don't sit and watch every team!

Sorry, I didn't explain well. I meant we always watched the other teams in the division and those from the same gym. We did it to show respect to them.
