Dana's Weight Loss Journal: 75 lbs to go! Comments welcome! Updated 9/23

 Dana! You changed your tag! Awesome girl! and horray for a good check up with the doc! :woohoo:

How's grandma doing? hoping her days are better for you.

Love your journal! Congrats on the weight loss so far! I am starting a diet plan starting tomorrow. I am feeling a little bit sick so the exercise program will have to wait a few more days. Bingeing is my biggest problem, too. I don't know how you survive with just three meals and a dessert per day...I have a serious snacking issue in the evening. Any tips?!

Thanks! :flower3:

I usually eat 3 meals, and a couple snacks per day. On the days where I eat big at a meal or two and don't have the calories left for snacks I feel miserable. I get headaches and listen to my tummy growl incessantly.

I would offer tips, because I thought I had the late-night snacking monster conquered, but this week the monster has reared its ugly head again. I have been snacking a lot right before bed. Stuff like cheese & crackers, pretzels & peanut butter, etc, so I guess it could be worse, but I am not expecting to lose any weight this week...

Thanks for reading! Good luck with your weight loss! :cheer2:

Thanks Lisa :)

Well, everything was going ok this week until yesterday... (I posted this elsewhere so forgive me for copy-pasting)

Grandma fell yesterday and fractured her shoulder. It happened while my aunt was here, just before I arrived to care for Grandma during the day. Apparently my aunt has still not grasped the fact that you CANNOT leave Grandma alone...even if she is hanging onto her walker you need to be standing right there with her, preferably with a hand on her back or waist, should she fall backwards. So her upper-arm/shoulder is now broken, and would under normal circumstances need to be surgically repaired, but due to her age and condition is just going to be left to heal on its own, which is going to cause mobility issues with that arm.

My dad and I are really frustrated with my aunt, because it seems she just doesn't get it (this is the second time Grandma has fallen and broken a bone while my aunt was in the next room), and we're just sick about how much pain Grandma is going to be in for the next few weeks. There are only a few things that she can do because of her mobility issues. She enjoys drying dishes and folding clothes, small household tasks like that which she can do while seated, and now she can't even do that.

:headache::sad2:

Moving along...I know I haven't been posting this week. Bad me. I've been eating well during the day, lots of fruit and veggies, but at night I've been going way overboard on the salty snacks. I also haven't been doing any walking/cardio, but I have done some strength training at least. I'll start logging everything again on Monday. Gotta get back on track! I don't think I've gained much if anything, but I need to get my good habits working again!

233.93! -0.8 lbs this week.

Wonder of wonders, I didn't gain anything! And I'm down almost a pound? How this happened I'm unsure, but I'll take it!

I fiddled with a breakfast 'cookie' recipe I found on SP and baked some this morning. The texture is more like that of a granola or cereal bar.

I posted my modified version if anyone is interested. Here's the link:

Fruit, Oat & Nut Breakfast Cookies

They came out pretty well if I do say so myself. I don't consider myself creative in the kitchen, I usually just follow recipes exactly, so I'm pleased these were good with all my substitutions and omissions.

No exercise again today...I wanted to watch Dancing with the Stars with Mom and it's 2 hours long, plus we went out to dinner before. I guess I'll just have to walk during the season premier of Glee tomorrow!

I LOOOOOVE Glee! I was in showchoir in high school and those are some of my best memories ever. On a related note, one of my weight loss goals is to be able to fit into my showchoir dresses again.

Breakfast - banana - 109 cal
Snack - cucumber w/ hummus - 63 cal
Lunch - turkey & avocado on sammie thin; plum - 243 cal
Dinner - cajun tilapia, rice pilaf, green beans; broccoli salad (vinegar base); cottage cheese - 456 cal
Snack - lime & salt popcorn; indian corn candy - 330 cal

Total - 1200 cal
Water - 64 oz

I didn't eat nearly enough calories in the first 2/3 of my day. I just didn't feel like a bigger breakfast, and I didn't get a snack in the afternoon because the social worker dropped by Grandma's house and I thought it would be rude to eat while I was talking to her. :confused3

I know Indian Corn is pure sugar, but 'tis the season...Halloween is my favorite holiday and I have to get a bag of the yummy candy! It's just so festive!

Speaking of Halloween...the produce stand a couple miles down the road from my house is all decked out for the holiday and is getting their first shipment of pumpkins in! Now all we need is some proper fall weather (it's still regularly getting up to 90 here, which is almost unheard of) and I'll be blissful! I love cool weather and the trees changing color and leaves crunching underfoot, wearing hooded sweatshirts, and watching my favorite old creepy movies and all the shows about the paranormal that come on in October! :goodvibes

I am so sorry about your Grandma falling and getting hurt. I will pray for a successful recovery.

Doing good with your food, but keep moving. Remember how important it is. :thumbsup2 and congrats on the loss. You are going in the right direction.

GLEEEEEE!!!! :hyper: 'Kiss today goodbye...' One of my very favorite showtunes! :lovestruc
And the Dancing with the Stars results went as they should. It was a good night for TV!
I guess I'm going to have to watch Biggest Loser on Hulu, though...everything is on at the same time!

I did walk on the treadmill during Glee tonight...I even did a little (super slow, :snail:snail's pace) jogging! :woohoo: I decided to do intervals of walking and then fast walking, but I found once I put the treadmill at 4mph or higher I feel the need to lightly jog; it's just more comfortable than walking at that pace for me.

Exercise - Bikini Workout for Beginners from SP; 63 min walk/jog on treadmill (3.5 miles)

Breakfast - Multigrain Cheerios w/ blueberries & milk - 212 cal
Lunch - salsa chicken, brown rice, black beans in a wheat tortilla - 440 cal
Snack - kipper snacks - 190 cal
Dinner - KFC chicken breast (took off the breading & skin); corn on the cob; 2 small choc. chip cookies - 301 cal
Snack - indian corn - 140 cal

Total - 1283 cal
Water - 96 oz

I am craving sweets like crazy! :worried: TOM is incoming and I get SO hungry!

Evil Mom made chocolate chip cookies and then traipsed off upstairs, leaving them out for me to put away. I broke a couple getting them off the tray, so of course I had to eat them! :rolleyes1 And then I went and ate more indian corn on top of that.

However, I am proud to say I resisted the KFC biscuits, and the yummyness that is the fried chicken breading.

I get the same way.

Who can resist fresh home made cookies, but "evil mom" (I like that) isn't helping is she? Hopefully she will get on board with you soon. Way to go on resisting the biscuits, I have no self control around bread. and fried chicken...:faint:

Bread is definitely one of the things I'm trying to be conscious of...there are so many restaurants that plop that basket of bread in front of you. And breadsticks w/ cheese dip were about even on the 'yum' meter with the pizza itself in my mind. Nowadays, I avoid the bread basket like the plague. I just think to myself, 'Do I really want to waste that many calories on plain ol' bread?'

Thanks for sticking with me! I don't know if anyone but you is reading, but I'm certainly going to keep posting!

Last night I went to the grocery store to take advantage of a sale on Healthy Choice meals, then I came back to the house and recruited my dad to help me clean out the big freezer out in the garage. That was actually a bit of a work out...the thing is so deep that I can't really reach to the bottom without my feet coming off the ground.
Anyway, Mom had been complaining about not being able to find anything beyond my frozen meals and WW ice cream bars, so I figured since I was about to stick a bunch more in there I should chuck out some old stuff and organize things a bit.
By the time I'd finished that it was about 8:30 already, and I had yet to eat dinner, so I didn't get in any walking last night.

Wednesday:

Breakfast - Multigrain Cheerios w/ blueberries & milk - 212 cal
Lunch - Lean Gourmet shrimp w/ pasta & veggies frozen meal; asparagus - 282 cal
Snack - fiber crisp w/ Laughing Cow; plum - 100 cal
Dinner - salsa chicken, brown rice, black beans in wheat tortilla - 440 cal
Snack - fiber crisp w/ cinnamon raisin PB - 195 cal

Total - 1230 cal
Water - 64 oz

I really hate PMS. That's a pretty obvious statement, but I just thought I'd put it out there. I'm bloated and tired and craving junk. Stupid hormones. I'm not anticipating a loss again this week.

Gonna try and do my strength workout today while Grandma is napping, and hopefully I'll have time for a long walk this evening. I just feel so wiped out and tired right now, and exercise doesn't generally give me an 'energized' feeling like everybody says it's supposed to.

I really overdid it yesterday. I was really not feeling well and still having mad cravings for snacks and junk. I don't even want to calculate the calories...it could have been worse, but it was bad.

Breakfast - Multigrain Cheerios w/ blueberries & milk
Lunch - Lean Gourmet chicken flatbread; a whole lot of SunChips
Snack - pretzels; 3 small cookies
Dinner - Dairy Queen chili cheese dog; 1/2 small fry
Snack - mint Oreo Blizzard

Carbs carbs carbs...I already felt fat and bloated yesterday before I ate all that crap, but of course it didn't help. Totally not worth it in hindsight, but I can't seem to think that way all the time in the moment itself.

I brought a bunch of fruit and veg and not much else with me today to Grandma's; I'll probably be under calories today intentionally because yesterday was terrible.
