Dan found out his residence today!

I'm so envious of the parents of the kids going to school in Ontario!
Our son accepted his first choice the University of British Columbia when I had my girls for a vacation at Disney!

The offer came and he accepted because that was what he wanted!

It would be nice to go and see him every now and then or have him home for the weekend or even for Thanksgiving! He did get a single room. I'll be looking for flights Toronto to Vancouver return to see my boy.

Hi Nancy, we are most likely going to rent a fridge from Campus Coolers and if his room mate ends up doing the same, one of them can get a refund and they can split the cost, if they choose. Good idea to keep some milk and cereals on hand for early morning classes. Dan loves peanut butter and honey sandwiches so he can also keep the bread fresh in the fridge, for a snack.

Yes, quite possibly we will be going through this with Tim next year, depending on how grade 12 goes. He seems so young, though, and has no real direction yet. Dan has matured a lot with going to OAC and then another year of high school just so he could get into Western.

Rebecca, good luck to your son at UBC! It is beautiful out there.....I visit my sister out in BC and when I come home I still see those majestic mountains on one side and the Pacific on the other, in the back of my mind.

Ah yes Susan I so miss my younger school days boy how things change after you have kids and get married. Now I just race motorcycles for fun hehe.

Congratulations to Dan - his hard work finally paid off.
I feel the college pain though....Will be starting second year this September.
Good luck - and sending pixie dust his way.

Julie,

Check out the cost to buy a fridge at Costco or Sam's Club. What you will pay in rent for one year will either be the same or maybe more than what the cost of the fridge will be. I bought one years ago off of my sister-in-law when she left school and so far both my nephew and now my niece is using it. If you have no one to pass it along to you can always sell it later or keep it as an extra fridge for the basement.

Be sure he has his $65.00 on move-in day to buy his orientation kit. I get to work that day.

If you have any other questions ask away. :sunny:

Susan, we are still considering buying a fridge for him (we are not members at Cosco, though), but the rental place will also move it there for us, so that is a factor, too. We are looking at the middle size one at the moment and it's $85. for the year at Campus Coolers. Have to get out and really look around at new ones, yet.

We got a pamphlet telling him all the money he should bring for frosh week. What exactly is in the "frosh kit" for $64 ? ;)

Included in the frosh kit is 2 t-shirts (one Perth and one faculty), clipboard, memo board, carabiner, water bottle, coupons and most important is the wristband which is their pass into all the events for the week. There may be more than this because other things sometimes show up later this month.

I think it's a good deal for the money. Make sure they buy them right away because we don't order enough for everybody because everybody doesn't buy them and then were stuck with leftover frosh t-shirts, etc.

I don't go to Costco very often but I can check out the price at Sam's Club and let you know. Sam's is only about 8 minutes away from the University and anyone can shop there and just pay a surcharge or buy their membership depending on how much they spend.

Good deal on the O-kit! Rachel's is $115, and I'm notsure what it will be....although I do know that a day/night on Wolfe Island and a BBQ is!
