When we bought into DVC, people said we were crazy, now with the recent letter from DVC about the points going up again, (this is like the 8th increase we've seen) it only proves to me that DVC was the best vacation choice we could have made for our family.

What do you all think?

Hope your right cause we are in it for the long haul!

we bought in '93 at somewhere in the low 50's. Now our purchase is something like 3000 dollars more in value. Wait a minute , but there is something WRONG about that   :smooth: ..dave

My other timeshare is worth maybe 40% of what I paid...before paying the realtors commission. So for that one I'm in for the long haul...I have no plans to ever sell it before I get 10 or more years of use out of it. Disney, on the other hand, is keeping its value so well that circumstances may force me to let it go.

I have to say from a Broker's perspective it is truly amazing.
Disney is now selling almost 10 years less of a product and charging $34 per point more! No one else could ever pull that off.

I'm glad I bought at $54/pt and bought resale.

All the best,
Shontell

We just bought BCV in April at $70 a point (and we didn't have to 'sell' our points back for the first year, so we have them all banked for next year). I can't believe that in just 8 months the price of what we bought will be up by over $2000!

We haven't used any points yet, but I have our first trip scheduled for spring break at March. I can't wait! And now it will seem like an even better value!

How'd you manage to get BCV for $70 a point? I'm so jealous. We toured in June, and were quoted $80 a point. That's what we paid of course ($16K for 200 points) If I could have bought for 70 we would have 225 points. I'd like to buy 25 or 50 more points before the price increase, but it doesn't look likely. Christmas is coming, and we're trying to change the "want it but can't afford - charge it!" stimulus response pattern.

It went up in June to $80. In April it was actually $75, but some special was going (I forget what) that allowed up to buy at $70 and still keep all our points for the first year.

I remember the CM telling us that this special was a good deal and would only be offered until the end of the month. But then I thought all sales people told you that sort of thing. To be honest at the time I didn't realize what a good deal we got! Now I am thrilled!

We just 'happened' to be at WDW in April, and just 'happened' to meet a DVC CM, and just 'happened' to fall in love with the model when they showed it to us, and bought into the club even though we had NO INTENTION of doing so when we went on the trip. I think we just 'happened' into a good deal!

Actually, if you run the numbers, ( I can email the spreadsheet I developed to interested parties) the price per point should continue to increase over the next twenty years at which point the present value of future cash flows will be begin to decline rather than increase every year. I predict that as we get close to 2022 DVC will either increase the years on new purchases or come up woth some other incentive to buy.

The only smart financial move we ever made was our DVC purchase.

We have now passed our third year, which we originally calculated as our break-even point.

It makes every trip from here on even sweeter. :teeth:

we were in WDW 4 weeks ago and we are thinking about adding on. We were quoted $80/point for an add on. Is it up to $84 now or is that only if you are a first time buyer??

Through the end of May (maybe it was April) they were having a "special" for pre-sales at BCV, since it had not opened yet, and people who bought points couldn't use their points for trips before BCV opened.

The price was $75, but you could either get a discount of $5 per point (and got to keep all your points, unlike MB), or get free nights at a Disney Resort hotel (number of nights depended on how many points you purchased). I'm guessing they did this because there were a couple of months before BCV opened when these people couldn't stay on points.

Hopefully they will do something similar if they pre-sell SSV, but with the tremendous sales at BCV, who knows.
