My DD(9) wants to be Cruella Devil. We couldn't find any costumes, so I will be making it. My last item is a faux Dalmatian fur wrap. I don't really sew, but I went to the fabric store and got some fur. How do I keep it from shedding on the edges? I was figuring I could just fold it over a little bit, then fold again and stitch it. Would this work? Is there a better way? I didn't think it would be a big deal, but when I saw how much fur came off when the cut the piece at the fabric store I got frightened :scared1: It was such a mess I am now afraid to take it out of the bag.
I'm not planning on lining it or anything, but I don't want the fur all over Cruella's black dress.

I'm assuming you're making a stoll. If it were me, I'd make it fur on one side and then another fabric on the side that touches her shoulders. I'd see if I had some fabric suitable already in the house and if not I'd probably buy a cheap slip at the thrift store. Then cut the fabric and the fur in the lima bean shape and sew right sides together, turn inside out and then sew around about 1/4" from the edge. This would solve the furry mess problem but just as important - it would probably be the most comfortable option for Cruella. I would sew a ribbon to each "end" so it could be tied in the front, too.

Sounds like once you have it made, you'll have quite the clean-up on your hands. Good luck.
