Dairy free fun treats and anorexia recovery

Best wishes on the work to recovery! Erin McKenna's Bakery at Disney Springs might be have something for you. It is vegan and gluten free.

Although the bread pudding at Ohana has dairy, they do have non-dairy ice cream which would be an option. Not as exciting as the bread pudding, but you can at least get something. Lots of places have non-dairy ice cream as an option now and many of the restaurants have soy milk as well.

I have anaphylaxsis allergies to milk, peanut, tree nuts, and seafood. Milk is probably the biggest challenge of those at WDW because as in non-Disney life milk is just pervasive in prepared products and in a lot of cooking. But there are still lots of options and Disney has established allergy protocols for dealing with food allergies. They have options for safe foods even if some of the more fun stuff isn't possible.

Some of our favourite restaurants:

Table Service:
- Ohana for breakfast [I would like to do it for dinner but with a seafood allergy that is not an option; should be fine with milk allergy though] (at Polynesian resort)
- Boma for breakfast [has traditional American foods, but also a selection of African-inspired foods so you can be a bit adventurous if you want, and some of those were amazing !] (at Animal Kingdom Lodge resort)
- Tusker House for breakfast (character breakfast at Animal Kingdom park)
- Whispering Canyon Cafe for breakfast (we have also done it for dinner but enjoyed breakfast much better) (at Wilderness Lodge resort)
- Rainforest Cafe for lunch or dinner (at Animal Kingdom park or at Disney Springs)
- T-REX for lunch or dinner (at Disney Springs)

Quick Service:
- Captain Cook's for any meal (at Polynesian resort) (they have a great chicken and pineapple skewers served with side garden salad on the kids menu that is my favourite!) (they make great Mickey Waffles with real maple syrup!)
- Geyser Point has a great bison burger and *waffle fries* at lunch and dinner (at Wilderness Lodge resort)
- Everything Pop has some nice dinner entrees - pot roast; turkey breast as well as others (Pop Century resort)
- Gasparella's was able to make me a cheese-free extra pepperoni flatbread pizza (Grand Floridian resort)
- Cosmic Ray's Starlight Cafe has a very nice 1/2 Rotisserie Chicken at dinner time (for milk allergy,
1/2 Rotisserie Chicken - Milk Allergy-friendly; Slow-roasted Rotisserie Chicken served with Green Beans and French Fries) (Magic Kingdom park -- this is our goto at MK even if we just want a burger and fries)
- The Mara for any meal (at Animal Kingdom Lodge resort)

Disney is my favorite vacation place for a variety of reasons, but being able to easily eat dairy free is near the top of the list. There are so many options and it's so easy to find out what is available without dairy everywhere you go. The allergy menus at the quick service stations are very helpful. There is usually a cast member standing by with regular menus and allergy menus. Most restaurants have special allergy menus now even the buffets. The chefs are always available to speak with you personally and if it is a buffet to walk the buffet line with you to show you what to enjoy and what to avoid.

Mickey pretzels, regular popcorn from the popcorn carts (and I've been told the maple popcorn in Canada at Epcot), all the Dole Whip flavors (just make sure nothing is swirled with vanilla soft serve), the sugary almonds, LeFou's Brew, Kaki Gori, SORBET at L'ARTISAN De GLACE in the France Pavilion, a vegan cupcake at Sunshine Seasons that is filled with pineapple.... and several other snack options.

Congratulations on working through your recovery and being open about it. I don't know of a particular thing to do as far as celebrating while you are getting the snacks because it's such a personal victory. There is a Lost Princess cone that is a lemon flavored Dole Whip. It comes with an edible flower and represents Rapunzel. Since you are out there living your new dream, maybe that would be a good celebratory thing to try.

Best Wishes!

I wish you luck, go and have fun just dont overthink it. The number 1 thing you can do is that. Just geting out there and doing this is a big step, but its very managable. Its a long road to travel down but you will get there. My neice had this problem( she almost died a few times along the way), and she has recovered from it, shes now a nurse helping others. It takes time, have faith and stay strong. I do know that its hard but you can do it.
Thank you. It is definitely a long road. The threat of the hospital is a constant in my life at the moment. But I am excited to start getting better.

I love that idea :)

There is a ton of food at Disney, I think of the food as an experience itself! There is also a ton of walking. It's nothing to walk 10 miles a day there, so you do burn a lot of calories.

First, congratulations on beginning your recovery. From one disordered eater to another, it's a tough road with lots of potholes, but the destination is a wonderful, joyful place of loving yourself and enjoying food again.

Celebrate your accomplishment! A dear friend of mine struggled for YEARS with it and finally started to recover...I remember my husband won a party at a famous Chicago pizza parlor and she attended and ate pizza! I cried! So do SOMETHING special when you're there to celebrate, maybe take a special photo pass picture or meet a character that means something to you.

Im not sure about milk allergy free, but there are GREAT flavored ices in Epcot, in the Japan pavallion, I think. I agree with the poster who mentioned cotton candy...you can get fresh made and its so good!

Congrats and continued good vibes to you.

I don't think I've gained weight at Disney World. I honestly think the bigger challenge is eating enough to maintain the caloric needs.

Over 21 treat---> gran marnier slushie.
Under 21 treat ---> Le Fou's Brew

All my treats are drinkable....so that's all I got.
