Daddy for a week, Emily's Special Trip to "Ally's Room"

So, without further ado (I do have a lot of ado, don't I?)
The Plan(tm)
When - Feb 4-Feb 11 2010
Where - Coronado Springs Resort! (:thumbsup2 Kathy!)
The Good Stuff (ADRs!)
Feb 4 - San Angel Inn @ 6:30pm
Feb 5 - Biergarten @ 12:00pm, Teppan Edo @ 7:00pm
Feb 6 - Sci-Fi Dine In @ 12:00pm, Artist Point @ 5:30pm
Feb 7 - Le Cellier @ 12:30pm, Tony's @ 6:55pm
Feb 8 - Boma @ 4:45pm
Feb 9 - 50s PT @ 12:10pm, Yachtsman @ 7:00pm
Feb 10 - Nothing :(. This is where Yak & Yeti should go.
Feb 11 - The Plaza @ 11:45am

Most of the times were spot on with what I wanted, the only exceptions are 50s PT (10 minutes) and Tony's (5 minutes). I don't think I can complain about those though!

So, here's to my long day with 2hrs of sleep! /cheers

:woohoo::woohoo::woohoo: I am SOOOOOOOOOO happy that you are going back to CSR. I could dance a jig...and it made me smile to read your news (and I've had a really bad day so I needed it (you can see my bad news near the end of this link http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2311326).

Keep trying for Yak & Yeti...sometimes that one they don't allow as far out and for the dining plan, they haven't signed up yet so that may be why you can't get it either.

So, it was about 10am ish and it was already getting hot. The stroller my mom had picked up came in very handy with the cup holders...
21Sept-1012-500.jpg

Emily didn't seem too impressed by our distant view.minute waits. That wasn't going to work for the first ride, so we decided on another classic...

Is she giving the bird? I have about a hundred of my DD doing the same.

Michael

Not really. I know I may get a little "misty eyed" missing the girls down there, but I live alone and spend most of my time alone anyway :p And there's always random people to chat with (smoking may be very bad for you, but at least it's fairly social!)
I honestly admire anyone who can do that. I'm so shy, I won't hop into a line to ride a ride by myself and I feel wierd riding by anyone who I don't know. I just feel like I can't be myself. However, when we went to Dollywood at the beginning of September, I wanted to ride one roller coaster so badly, that I was willing to go it alone. But - the line was short, so I didn't really have to wait in line by myself. I'm wierd! I know!

I'm also a person who doesn't like to eat alone.

On the smoking thing, yes, it's bad for you, but the socialism part of it is part of the addiction! Trust me - I understand!!!

So, kudos to you, my friend! I wish I were more like you in that regard. And I totally know you're gonna miss your girls while down there. Every little thing you see is going to spark a memory or make you wish you had them there to share the experience. But, while you are there, you can be planning the next awesome vacay with them!

You'll come up with so many ideas!

One more thing I forgot to comment on - your ADR making fiasco!

Bless your heart. But you were persistent, and you got pretty much everything you wanted (w/ the exception of Y & Yeti). So yay! :yay:

I'm so excited for you that you get to go on another trip in February AND you got your ADR's and package booked :cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:

Now if I read your PTR correctly, you are going alone?

That's great you made your Hotel ressie and ADR's! Looks like you have some great meals planned :yay:
Thanks :). Really looking forward to them. I decided to go DxDDP based on the fact that there were just so many I wanted to do and I couldn't cut them out. So I figured, it's not much more, let's do 'em all!

:thumbsup2 so, happy to hear that you are booked and your ADR's are made (except for Yak & Yeti--but, I'm sure it will be easy enough to add...)SO, you don't have too long to wait and you'll be celebrating the pixiedust: before you know it! :mickeyjum
The big huge Oct 27th thread in the Restaurants forum kept me (and many others) going throughout the day. I don't know if I would have bothered if not for hearing success stories and details about how each call was going by that gang. It was a great feeling of camaraderie (at least for me) with all those involved.

Just over 4 months out now. I like these short countdowns. I get to celebrate my birthday there too! 50s PT should be super fun for that, and then Yachtsman will be a very nice celebratory dinner.

Yup :), I knew you'd be thrilled when I made the choice! And really, one of the clinchers (as if that place needs any...) is the bus stop location at all the parks. Right up in front at all 4, can't beat that.

Sorry to hear about your troubles :(. Sounds like they're on their way to dealing with the guy at least, hope all that goes well. I know it's rough going through it all. Hoping Mark's stuff goes well too.

For Yak & Yeti, I'm sure it's either not added in the system (CRT Breakfast and Lunch were like that yesterday) or they haven't signed the dining plan contract yet (Teppan Edo was like that yesterday too, but I didn't have the plan until after I booked there). It's not like it's one of the super in-demand places out there though (e.g. Le Cellier, CRT, etc), so it shouldn't be too difficult to get. If all else fails, I could walk-up Maya Grill that night for dinner instead. I know, that would be SUCH a shame if I had to do that ;) (Well, if I get Y&Y for lunch, I could still go to MG for dinner... hmmm....)

Is she giving the bird? I have about a hundred of my DD doing the same.

Michael
Heh, she certainly is. I swear she didn't learn it from me and I doubt from her mom, so I'll blame the father! (Granted, it's more than likely pure coincidence and happenstance that she just randomly arranged her fingers that way, but I like to blame "The Jerk".

I honestly admire anyone who can do that. I'm so shy, I won't hop into a line to ride a ride by myself and I feel wierd riding by anyone who I don't know. I just feel like I can't be myself. Bless your heart. But you were persistent, and you got pretty much everything you wanted (w/ the exception of Y & Yeti). So yay! :yay:
I'm actually quite shy a person too, to an extent. I'm not as outgoing as I used to be in my youth (I know I know, I'm not old yet!), but I will be social if someone starts it up. It's more of a very overbearing sense of "I don't want to bother anyone" than it is of being shy. Couple that with a perfect ability to entertain myself at will (often for hours, doing stupid stuff), and it works out pretty well.

Eating alone in a restaurant is a strange thing, and even though I do it from time to time around here, it still just feels a little odd, but oh well, I'll be at Disney surrounded by Castles and Mice and all sorts of stuff. I think I can handle feeling "a little odd" for a little bit each day ;)

And yeah, I know I'll be missing the girls pretty badly, especially when I pass (or ride) certain things. But, at least they're only a phone call away. I'll be one of "those" people on their cell phones in the park without a problem at all! Assuming I get decent signal... we remember how that was in Animal Kingdom...

And lastly, yup, we're planning to go at the same time in 2011 (which means, I'll get two birthdays in a row in Disney! No, I didn't plan it that way at all... :rolleyes1) so I'll be able to get a general feel before we go as well as attempt to plan a bit better and have a better overall expectation of what's there. It was quite difficult to know what to expect out of certain things when I hadn't been since I was 12 or 13, lots of things had changed and there is that whole other side that I had never even known existed before.

As far as the ADR fiasco goes. It was something alright. I just feel for all the CMs who had to put up with it yesterday, between frustration at their systems not working to one of the largest volume days ever to customers yelling at them because things weren't working right or weren't loaded yet, (like it was their fault...). I know it was NOT a "magical" day for any of them, yet there were so many reports of amazing and outstanding service that day that I just have to /cheer for all of them that had to put up with it.

I'm so excited for you that you get to go on another trip in February AND you got your ADR's and package booked :cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:

Now if I read your PTR correctly, you are going alone?
Thanks :) and yup, it's a nice solo trip for myself.

Hey, Allan!

I don't blame you, I guess I could handle feeling a little awkward each day, as long as each day were in Disney!

That's so awesome that you'll celebrate two birthdays in Disney. Jealous. Mine is June (I think we're the same age, 30, right?). I'll be 31. So, if I can swing a Disney trip in June with my folks (working on it), then I might be able to celebrate my birthday in Disney next year! I would love to do that.

I will say thank you to those wonderful CM's who provided such great service, even when things weren't working all that well for them. So THANK YOU, WONDERFUL CM'S! Without you, Disney wouldn't be as magical.

21Sept-1020-500.jpg

Well, I've been over here on the DIS for a few months and have made a whopping 14ish posts (and most of those between Lisa and Ginny's TRs. I figured I'd better start mine now!

So, away we go.

Cast
The "cast" of this trip is:

23Sept-1690-500.jpg

Me (the right side one, obviously). Allan, 30 year old Quality Assurance Specialist for a software development company in Mobile, AL. (Although, with a whopping 6 pictures of me total on both cameras, I was more of the "crew" heh). Known as "Ally" by Emily.

21Sept-1019-500.jpg

Beth. 30 year old mommy. She lives up in New Hampshire.

21Sept-1001-500.jpg

Emily, the star of the show. She's the 2 1/2 year old miracle for Beth. She's such an amazing (and silly!) little girl. There will be much more about her later on as well.

Personal Background (Warning: Long Story)
Now, before I get going forward, I'm going to take a step backward and get you nice people some background on the relationships and how this trip formed.

I have known Beth for almost 11 years now, and we have been very very close ever since. About 10 months after we first met, I moved down to New Jersey. This was tough on both of us, but for the 5 years I was down there, we remained as close as ever.

I moved back to New Hampshire after landing my current job (had been QA for another company, bought out by my current one, so we were all working "remote" anyway). She shortly moved in and things were good. Almost a year after that, she hooked up with "the jerk" and moved in with him for awhile. This is where Emily comes in. Pretty much the only thing he ever did for her was give her Emily (which, don't get me wrong, is an amazing thing).

When she was 6mos pregnant, she left him (again) and moved back in with me. We got a nice little 2 BR and I was there throughout the rest of the pregnancy. She gave birth to Emily in Feb 2007 and I immediately fell in love with her (ok, I was in love with Emily before she was born, and before we knew she was a she... that's beside the point). I was there for the first feedings, the first bath, taking her home for the first time, all that stuff. Well, "The Jerk" started being nice and attentive again with the new baby, so Beth went back to him to give him a shot at being a father for Emily (he already had 4 other kids, 3 of which lived with him).

Well, in the meantime, I had to move down to Alabama (last April) for work. They wanted to get everyone into the actual office. At the time (and now really), I didn't think that it would be a good idea to leave that job and search for another, so I moved 1,500 miles to the Gulf Coast. At the same time, Beth finally had enough (it's about time, but I had to let her find that out for herself) of "The Jerk" and moved out on her own.

Now, here's where Disney comes in. I have been wanting to go back to Disney for several years (even before Emily came along). When Emily was born, that desire grew more and I knew I'd be taking her at some point. About a month after we both moved, I was checking out the Disney website and went ahead and booked (and rebooked a couple times to extend and take advantage of Free Dining).

Synopsis: Beth = my closest friend and the only person I'd consider spending my life with. It's not in the cards right now ("The Jerk" really messed her up), but maybe in the future. I'll be here waiting anyway.

Emily = Beth's daughter and the other love of my life. You'll see much more of her throughout the TR.

Me = Well, Me. I think I've explained a bunch already. There will be some stories related to my past Disney stuff within the TR, since this is a wall of text already.

Oh... my... GAWD! You tell that girl that I said you are SO a keeper!!! What s supah-sweet guy you are for jumping in and opening your heart to her and her gorgeous little girl!

I haven't made it thru your trip report yet... just landed here from your siggy in the reply to my "First Time-Overwhelmed" post. But so far it looks like y'all had a blast.

Our first trip is in May. It's me (27 yo pre-med), my AWESOME hubby Josh (almost 30, RTO gen manager), DD 3, and Dsis 13 (Kindom Hearts/ anime geek). Staying 8 days at Port Orleans Riverside.

We make ADRs in 2 weeks, (which is insane for me bc I'm also planning hubby's 30th bday party) and I'm freaking out cause I have NO idea when to plan what. Any ideas for an itinerary, PLEASE let me know. I'm up for suggestions!!!

Anyhoo, you guys are too cute and I look forward to getting thru this TR. Glad ya had fun!

I've actually never really been big on my birthdays, I think that's why I'm trying to do something extra for myself this year. I figured 50s PT would be a fun place (I've been once, but that was on our last family trip way back when) and then Yachtsman is more my style (and I love a good steak).

Welcome aboard! There'll be many, many more pics of Miss Emily along the way. I'm sure the others around here can attest to that fact.

As far as the planning bits, I do have a little bit of PTR in this report as well (look for the big red text), my through process on that may help you. If not, well fire away and either I or one of the more Disney experienced people who are along for the ride will be more than happy to help you out :). But, like I said in that post, the best thing is to just relax and take it one step at a time.

Also, treat the ADRs like a puzzle. It makes it more fun to try and fit them where you can :) (especially on the DxDDP). Maybe that's just the nerd in my talking, but hey, it works!

I'm bored at work atm (shh, don't tell bossman) so I'll be getting up another chapter soon!

Yo Allan. I was so glad to see CSR in your future once again. Awesome. Excellent on your ADR's. Patience does pay off for sure. I know you will have a grand time. Yes, you will miss your girls but maybe you can find new things to do for when they go next time with you.

In the previous episode:

We left off with Beth telling me that she wanted them to sleep in on Friday, which I was ok with since our ADRs were for lunch only. Meanwhile, in my mind, I was tearing up imaginary Fastpasses for TSM, trying not to shed non-imaginary tears. (Ok, I didn't shed imaginary ones either, but I actually truly did visualize the tearing up of the fastpasses!)

We went to bed at some random time and then slept. I don't remember what happened when I was asleep, because I was asleep.

*Title Credits.. other stuff signifying we're on today's episode*

I was up at my normal 6:30ish (though I think I slept in today too, all the way to 7!) and did my typical morning stuff. Walked around, visited the gift shop, got some OJ, ect. I also remember that I picked up some "Ally Juice" (Powerade) since we had run out of the Gatorade I picked up at Walmart.

At any rate, enough about my boring morning. Around 9:30ish, Beth woke up and started slowly getting ready for the day (she was still tired, but couldn't sleep anymore) and eventually woke Emily up around 10. Well, I was already ready (already) and I just kinda sat around waiting for them to do the same.

Emily was in a silly mood this morning however...
25-Sept-1800-500.jpg

(those are my shoes on her little feet, and those shoes were the best investment I made for this trip. 50$ Croc somethings that aren't made fully out of plastic and they were super comfortable for the whole trip, even though I bought them the day before I left!)

She also tried to put her shoes onto me, but they didn't fit. She got frustrated with that, and tried something else..
25-Sept-1801-500.jpg

(look at my smexy legs!)

She was just adorable this morning. What a difference from the day before! (Well, she's always adorable, but this morning her attitude matched it!)

At any rate, we finished getting ready and then hopped the bus to MGM. We got there and through the gate without trouble (considering it was about 11:15ish, there really shouldn't have been any trouble anyway) and then started walking down the street.

Now, before we start our walk, I'm going to mention that I don't particularly like MGM. I never did. We went there when I was little and I enjoyed the Indiana Jones show and then Star Tours when it first opened, but that was about it. (Oh, and I liked the Great Movie Ride). As of today, it still sits in the bottom of the four for me (even after our Animal Kingdom day). However, it does lend itself to the camera quite nicely.

So, let's walk down, um.. whatever street that first one is called...

We had ADRs at Hollywood & Vine for around 12. (I'd have to dig out that old sheet to see the exact time, but I think it was like 12:05 or something) So we walked over there and got our name in (well, my name, since you all know that Beth's name isn't the same as mine, it's Beth :p). A few minutes of waiting on the porch and we were in!

Emily was enamored by the little display at the entrance that had all the Playhouse Disney characters on it. She loves The Little Einstiens (which was the exact reason that I booked this lunch). Well, we do the usual buffet thing and then all have a seat. I go to grab the pen and autograph book and put it on the table. As I get ready to eat, I notice black stuff on my hands. WTH? (That's "What the heck?" by the way ;)) Well, I look at the pen to find the same black stuff all smudged around the top end :(. Emily's princess pen had blown its top. It was still usable, but I don't think that Disney would have appreciated me getting ink all over their characters, so I tossed the pen out and put the book away :(.

Soon enough, over comes Goliath from JoJo's Circus (I guess? I'm sure that one of you will fill me in :p)
25-Sept-1808-500.jpg

I don't think Emily knew what to make of him. She doesn't watch that show.

After Goliath came one of the Einstiens... I did NOT get a good picture :(, but you can see emily's food...
25-Sept-1809-500.jpg

I think her name was June?

After she came around, the other Einstien swung by (no idea of his name :confused3)
25-Sept-1810-500.jpg

25-Sept-1811-500.jpg

We continued eating for a bit, and then they had their "celebration" thingy, which happens every so often.
25-Sept-1812-500.jpg

I took video of this too, but I'm too lazy to edit and upload it, so you're going to have to wait!

Well, we were soon finished and out the door we went. Of course, we had to stop to have pictures in front of all four of the Einstiens...
25-Sept-1813-500.jpg

It has a very yellow cast, not sure why. I'm thinking my flash didn't go off and it took the base lighting of the place.

Next we walked down a street. I think this is Sunset Blvd, but I'm not sure.

-- Continued in next post as it yelled at me because I had too many images! --

And then we headed back the way we came, and over to the Animation area.

25-Sept-1820-500.jpg

We picked up some candy for Emily. Now, I wouldn't give her one of those rock candy pops, but I'm not her mother (and I wanted one too!)
25-Sept-1821-500.jpg

Next, we hit up The Little Mermaid show. As some of you may remember (and others will be reminded), The Little Mermaid was Emily's favorite Disney movie, and the other of 2 that she saw before this trip (Pinocchio being the other). The show itself was pretty neat. "It's raining inside!" was Emily's comment! She sat well through it, and wasn't scared at all when Ursula came out. It was a cute little show (and, if I may be so daring, it was my favorite Disney movie too, though the Pixar ones have lately taken that place, due to my nerdy-side enjoying the process of computer-based animation).

When we came out of Mermaid, who did we see?
25-Sept-1822-500.jpg

25-Sept-1823-500.jpg

25-Sept-1824-500.jpg

(That's Handy Manny from Playhouse Disney for you folks without young kids somewhere in your life :p)

She loved him, and, you notice that we got a new pen too. It was a Jasmine one of those Kooky pens. This will be important later. I think we got that at the same place we got the lollipop. By this time, Beth had also become obsessed with those penny squishing machines, so we were getting pennies made whenever we found a new place. It's a shame she didn't really notice them until today though, we could have gotten a ton more. Oh well, I know of one thing I can do for them on my Feb trip!

Coming Eventually: We continue in MGM... because we're not done yet.

You know what I am going to say......Emily is adorable once again! And, you got some great pictures....once again!

We really like MGM Studios. Yes, I called it MGM Studios because that's still what we remember it by. When Hunter was littler, it was a bit hard to find things that he could do but it's now up there on our list.

Great pics at H&V (our least favorite place to eat...but with little ones I can see doing it). I'm with you...the Studios are way on the bottom of our list (MK, Epcot, AK and then HS in our book).

Thanks as always :).

Don't know what it is about the studios. They've expanded a lot since last I was there, but still don't really interest me. /shrug

Yeah, H&V. The entertainment was good and the service wasn't horrible. The food was just kinda meh though. Better than our 1900 Park Fare breakfast, but overall not that great at all. The flank steak was good, and Beth and Emily enjoyed the nuggets, but that was about it. The characters were pretty good though at least, but we won't go back there next time. (Of course, it may also be because Emily may be out of the Little Einstiens phase by then...)

I don't really know what it is about the studios for me. I guess I'm just not into it too much. My Mom on the other hand, has loved it since the very first time we went there (which was shortly after it opened). A few attractions I enjoy, but I can't see spending a whole day there (even though, I did plan 2 half-days for Feb ><). To each his own :).

So, since I have a little one I'll cover the FYI part of the characters here(you knew I would didn't you:laughing: ) : JoJo & Golaith which is a really cute show--if you ever find a cheap DVD get it for her...she teaches exercises and alot of cute get off the sofa stuff! Ashton would wake up when I was getting Dayne off to school and watch JoJo he loved it!

The Einsteins :Leo is the red head and drives Rocket; June is the brunnette (she is the dancer), Quincy the other little boy (he plays ALL insturments) and {the one I can not stand}Annie (she is Leo's younger sister and thinks she can sing) she is very monotone when she sings and does so through her nose...

Great pictures of DHS!! and the lunch...even the yellow tinted ones--next time you need to be sure you are included in the pictures...Emily needs you to be part of the memory, too! even if she is the only one to see the picture!!! (I'm trying very hard to do this myself)
Great Handy Manny photos; that was some of Ashton's best shots!!
:wave2:

Allan! So glad you got another update up. How cute is Emily walking around in "Daddy's" shoes. You should be her daddy. It makes me tear up thinking about that. Moving on. :goodvibes

That is Goliath from Jo Jo's circus. That show doesn't come on Playhouse Disney anymore. I maybe see a "feeling good with Jo Jo" quickie (like a three or four minute skit) but even that is rare.

Leo is the red headed guy from LIttle Einsteins. They don't even show it much either, anymore.

You got some really cute pictures there! Did you do the Playhouse Disney show? We did when it was Bear in the Big Blue House. They stopped showing that one, too, so it's good that they've changed it. I would love to see the newest version.

I loved that Little Mermaid show. It was awesome! We did Beauty and the Beast that year too. I can't wait to hear about the rest of your day to see what all you ended up doing!

I think Emily is in love with Handy Manny. She's ALL wrapped up in him. That is the cutest thing I've ever seen! :goodvibes

Ooops! Connie and I were working on answering your questions at the same time!

Heh, heh! I don't like Annie either!

Ahh yes, Leo. I had heard it from another post somewhere, and couldn't remember! Thanks. And thanks for the info on the other shows too! This is stuff that a single guy without a child would never know!

As far as the pictures, I do like the way they turned out and I was pretty active with the camera today. Of course, it figures that I got a bunch of really good shots at the park I don't particularly like! (/waves @ Murphy and his law!)

I've also never been one to be in pictures, even when I was little I preferred to be the one taking them. My parents used to get so mad when I'd blow a roll of film on nothing in particular. Of course, those were the days when we had to buy film and then pay to have it processed. So much easier now a days. (Ok, part of it may have been the fact that my father was one of those "Wait... wait.... wait.... wait.... wait.... wait... say cheese! Ok, again, wait... wait..." types of family picture takers.)

We did not do the Playhouse Disney show. Not sure why, but I was basically just roaming around and letting Beth (and Emily) pick what to do. Of course, I think she was expecting me to take the lead... so there was a lot of walking around.

As far as being Emily's daddy. I would like nothing more in the world than for that to happen. I've been more of a father to her since before she was born than "the jerk" ever has.

And, I even have a good recent story about him to relate this fact! You may remember that by this time in the TR I have already stepped up and helped Beth with both the fun things as well as keeping the princess in line. Well...

A few days ago, "The Jerk" picked the two of them up to bring them to a store to pick up a few necessities (pull-ups, wipes, stuff like that), of course, they put these things RIGHT NEXT TO the toys (which, I bet you all know about this much more than I!). So, of course Emily wanted something. Now, Beth is on a pretty tight budget, and she simply was unable to pick anything extra up that day, so Emily was doing what any 2 year old would do.

This sparked a "discussion" between Beth and "him" about discipline. She asked for his help because he just lets her do whatever she wants. Of course, his response was "I will never discipline her, that's your job". So, yeah, that didn't go over well. Just sheds some light into his character.

Back to the better topic. The Handy Manny pics were great. I think I got a couple even better ones on Beth's camera... (seeing if I can pull them up now, to resize and reupload to post here... give me a minute. It's a good thing I saved all her photos on here too! Found a few extras!)

I'm going to have to go through this whole thing once I finish and get some of her pics up here too...

At any rate... I should be getting the rest of MGM up today.
