Daddy for a week, Emily's Special Trip to "Ally's Room"

Emily looks so happy during her first swim! How great to be able to capture that on pictures. A lovely way to spend the evening, especially after enjoying such an awesome day together.

Morning dawned bright and early and I was up around 6:30 as per usual. I had set the alarm for 7:15 for the girls, since we had an "8:15" breakfast at 1900 Park Fare (only after the fact did I realize that this was an 8:10 breakfast, but that's not that big of a deal really). I did my morning stuff and took my morning walk and eventually all were up and ready to go. Emily was not easy to wake up this morning and she really wanted to keep sleeping (so did Beth really). She was a bit cranky as we made our way to the bus stop around 8:10...

We wait for a bus, and wait, and wait a little more. Emily is still being cranky and I can tell Beth is real tired this morning. We eventually hopped on a Magic Kingdom bus and headed off (Now about 8:30... can you see where this is going?)

We got to the Magic Kingdom and I decided that we'd take the boat to GF rather than the Monorail. (Since the GF boat had just pulled up). We hopped on and rode over. It was a really nice ride.

We landed at the dock and hopped off and proceeded to walk the grounds of the grand hotel (8:40ish now). Well, let's just say that I had absolutely no clue where I was going. I had previously studied the CSR so I knew where stuff was, but did I do anything about these other resorts? Naw.

So, I figured that the main building is a good shot and we made our way there (once we found a map of the grounds it was easier than "try and find the monorail station").

24-Sept-1601-500.jpg

We ended up arriving around 8:50 or so for our breakfast. Late again! We did get seated though, and only had to wait about 10-15 minutes. We got buzzed/beeped/flashed/vibrated with the buzzing, beeping, flashing, vibrating thing and then headed in to have our boring picture taken in front of a wall that they'd then try and charge us $35 for.

Now, I will stop here real quick to say that this is where my friend's mom worked. We had initially planned on meeting here this morning and having breakfast together. She had been off today, but we were supposed to get hooked up with a discount and all that stuff. Well, between them not being around (they were still asleep) and us being almost an hour late, it didn't happen. Oh well.

24-Sept-1602-500.jpg

(Rather dark, but it was the best of the 3 :()

We did the usual, Beth and Emily get food, then I get food rotation. While I was up, Mary Poppins "popped" by for a visit.
24-Sept-1603-500.jpg

24-Sept-1604-500.jpg

I got my potatoes and some fruit and some other stuff (a strawberry yogurt type thing that I'm not sure if it was or was not the famous strawberry soup) and sat down. Soon enough, Alice stopped by for a chat. She was good and spent a little time with us.
24-Sept-1605-500.jpg

Next up came Snow White (at least I think, she was there and gone so fast that I'm not even sure how I got this picture).
24-Sept-1606-500.jpg

Then came Tigger! (This was a surprise to me, I didn't realize they had Tigger and Pooh here, nor did I realize that Snow White would be here either, but she was gone so quick that I didn't have time to think about it)
24-Sept-1607-500.jpg

Now, you can see the table in this one. Notice the stuff on the actual table? Yeah, Emily was starting to get rambunctious this morning. She had barely eaten anything (notice the plate) and was having more fun playing than eating. But, we pushed through and finished up the character rotation.

After Tigger, came Pooh

24-Sept-1612-500.jpg

Now, one benefit of this breakfast... I don't know if you remember, but on Monday at Crystal Palace someone (:rolleyes1) had left the autograph book in the room. Well, this worked out well as we could get Tigger and Pooh's again for the first time!

Breakfast itself though, not that grand. The food was dry and not hot and very bland (except the strawberry stuff). Our server was just fine and no problems with her, but I was really disappointed in the food quality. Maybe we hit an off day or off time, but it just was not very good at all. Oh well, live and learn, next time we'll try dinner here which I hear is usually quite better.

After breakfast, we went for a little walk around the grounds. In all my times to WDW previously, we had never even walked around this resort (of course, it was only open for my last 3 or 4 trips...). The grounds were beautiful and we had been discussing our next trip. We both decided that this place was TOO fancy for the likes of us. It wasn't our style. I have pretty much decided on either CBR, Poly, Ft. Wilderness Cabins, or POR for the next trip (depending on finances and how many we have going, I have almost a year and a half to figure it out though :p)

At any rate, you're tired of looking at words I'm sure...

Thanks :).

I think that I might like GF, maybe, but it's too fancy for Beth's taste. She'd rather the Poly, WL, AKL as far as deluxes go. Makes it a bit cheaper for me at any rate :p.

----

Been quiet on the home front this weekend. Beth is still dealing with the crap from the "friend" that moved out. Still being guilted and all that fun stuff. At least she sees right through it now, so it's just a matter of her keeping strong and not letting her back now. (Which is getting more and more unlikely, as she's seeing more and more).

There'll be an update coming soon, assuming we don't have our irregular Monday meeting.

Morning Allen,

Again, absolutely beautiful pictures. As your pictures have progressed, you can tell that Emily is getting more and more comfortable with the characters. I'm glad that you got pictures of the Grand Floridian. We had dinner there and I didn't take any pictures of the resort grounds.:confused3

When we were last together, we had just entered Magic Kingdom after a not so great breakfast at 1900 Park Fare. We were in high spirits though, and we'd be seeing Derek and his family again today!

We came through the tunnel and Emily got her "mail"...

Let's stop a second here to explain. Emily LOVES getting mail. It just makes her day. It doesn't matter what it is, so long as it's mail. Now, while in Disney, she never really got any true mail of course, but lots of the papers and mostly the maps were her mail. She'd carry it around the park all day (sometimes...) and even took some of the maps home with her as her mail. It's really cute.

So, anyhow, we go though the tunnel (right side as always) and pop up in front of the Exposition Hall. Who do we see?
24-Sept-1620-500.jpg

24-Sept-1621-500.jpg

We start walking around toward Fantasyland as usual passing the old swan boats location. I can actually remember riding on these when I was little, even though they closed when I was about 3 1/2.
24-Sept-1622-500.jpg

We then headed for the first ride of the morning. I was relegated to photo duty, but it was great watching THEM have fun :p. Emily really loved the teacups!
24-Sept-1623-500.jpg

24-Sept-1624-500.jpg

After the teacups, we headed off for the most classic of classic rides. Dumbo's line was not too bad (10minutes maybe, at around 11am) and they were on quickly.
24-Sept-1625-500.jpg

24-Sept-1626-500.jpg

24-Sept-1627-500.jpg

24-Sept-1628-500.jpg

After Dumbo, we hopped on Snow White's Scary Adventure which was interesting. It would be a lot better with a voice-over really. I know a lot of people don't really "get" the ride, and I knew what it was generally about, but it doesn't really convey its meaning too well.

By this time, Derek and crew had woken up and were finishing up breakfast at 1900 Park Fare (during which he fared better than us). It's actually quite amazing that they got in there for breakfast, during Free Dining, without a reservation, and barely had to wait. I guess knowing half the staff there really helps grease the wheels :p.

We decided to grab some FastPasses for Peter Pan's Flight and then head over to it's a small world again.
24-Sept-1629-500.jpg

I have a video of this that I'll post later. It's long though, basically an entire ride video.

After small world, we meandered about for a bit. Derek and company had made it to the park. We walked down toward our area (the smoking section on the pathway up from Belle's reading spot thingy) and hung out for a few while they went on small world.

We made our way back over to the exit, and lo and behold, they eventually emerged! Much much easier meeting up with them this time! It was only about 1pm or so too.

We headed over to Toontown as a group (after passing by these guys going into a random door)...
24-Sept-1630-500.jpg

.. and hung around outside of County Bounty for a bit.

Emily needed a diaper change, and Amanda and Madison went for a shop, so Derek and I hung out and just chatted for a bit. Was pretty nice to not have to worry about running around, being late for a ressie, etc. We did talk about WoW a little bit, although it was pretty much the only mention that we had all week (so, doing well!).

24-Sept-1631-500.jpg

24-Sept-1632-500.jpg

After awhile, I got to wondering what was taking my girls so long. (Ok, they aren't really "my" girls.. I know this, but it's easier and less repetitive than typing their names out every time!) They had been gone for 30ish minutes, which even for Emily (who does not like to be changed...) is a long time.

Eventually Derek (or Amanda, I know it wasn't me) spotted them behind Minnie's house! They had gone through after the diaper change without letting me know :(. At least they had some good mother/daughter time (even if Beth didn't get a single picture!)

Reunited at long last, we all headed over to the playground.

Emily loved this place, as expected. She has little fear of other people and is not quite what one would call shy.

24-Sept-1633-500.jpg

24-Sept-1634-500.jpg

24-Sept-1635-500.jpg

Maddie on the other hand, was happy, but not really into playing with others. She had a good time hanging out with her Mommy, but wasn't too into the playground stuff.

After burning off some energy, we had to pry Emily away from the playground and we headed off for lunch. A quick map check and it was either Cosmic Ray's or Pecos Bill's, well, the Peoplemover (aka TTA, but I like Peoplemover better) was up on our list, so Cosmic Ray's won out.

24-Sept-1636-500.jpg

We had a good meal here, although it was super crowded (and I took 3 trips to the fixins bar for stuff I forgot). I think Emily had nuggets while the two of us had burgers. Emily (who had been Miss Cranky earlier today at breakfast) was in a mood to take off her shoes. Of course, there was no way we were stopping her from doing such. So, one of the times she handed me the sandal, I held it and put it into my pocket. As we were leaving, I took care of the trays and came back to a really confused and slightly frantic Beth. She was getting Emily's shoes back on and couldn't find one of them.

Yup, you guessed it. It was in my pocket still. I smacked myself on the head for not telling her (and then forgetting I had it there) and we went on.

We took a spin on the TTA and soon after, Emily was out like a light. We parted ways with Derek and walked around the park some more. We headed through Frontierland going through the shops and checked out the wait time on Splash Mountain (one of the rides that Beth really wanted to do). It was at about 30-45 minutes, so she passed.

24-Sept-1637-500.jpg

We simply just meandered around some more, taking in the sites and then began to head toward the gate via Adventureland. We found a mother and son who had not yet been on Peter Pan, and handed them our FastPasses. They looked a little confused and I don't think they spoke English, but it made us feel better!

The rest of the day passed uneventfully as we hung out at the room. I don't know what we did for dinner, I may have picked up a sandwich from the Cafe Rix express place. I'm pretty sure that's what I did...

We all (eventually) got to bed and Beth asked if they could sleep in tomorrow. I said sure as our ADRs were for lunch (as I was secretly ripping up TSM fastpasses in my mind) and did not set the alarm.

Tomorrow will bring Hollywood Studios and Lunch with the Little Einstiens.

Sorry about the lack of pictures in this update. Wasn't really a big picture day I guess :(

Great update, as usual! I loved the Park Fare pics. Snow white was gorgeous - the prettiest Snow I've seen yet, to be honest. Alice wasn't too hot - her wig looked crooked. :confused3 Yay for Tigger & Pooh being there! That was awesome that you were able to get their autograph, and you can easily tell that Emily loves that Tigger baby. She's lit up like a Christmas tree in that photo! So cute, that one.

Yay for Pinnochio! I love that guy. When we were there for the MVMCP in 2006, my little boy (not quite two at the time) danced (well, sort of) with Pinnochio! The video I have is so cute...so I'm partial to the guy.

Very good updates Allan. It is so hard to read the mind of a child. Just when you think they are all figured out, they change. Kinda like women. We will pretend I did not say that.

Have a good Monday.

Ginny

More great updates, but do I detect some disappointment in your voice as your tear up your imaginary TSM FP's? :rotfl: Please tell us you got a chance to ride it?????

Sorry your breakfast wasn't that great at 1900 PF, but your pictures of Emily and the princesses are really great. And the GF - so majestic!

Sound like you hade a great MK day. I am curious to see how late the girls sleep in.

Thanks, and yeah, she was getting better and better. She did seem to prefer the big, full-costume characters over the "face" characters, which is a bit odd as most little ones are more apt to see the face ones as less scary. Overall though she did great in that department.

The GF was beautiful and my pictures don't do it justice really.

She was a pretty Snow White, but she was very rushed. The others (we saw Snow about 4-5 times we were there....) were a bit better at playing their role. I didn't notice Alice's hair until you mentioned it (I have an excuse, I'm male!) but yeah. She was very good though, so there's some saving grace. And Tigger... He was amazing and she loved every minute of it. Next to the Minnie pic (which is an obvious favorite), it's my favorite one. In fact, I had the Minnie one ask my desktop here at work, and the Tigger one as my desktop at home! (I switched the Minnie one out here for the one taken at The (Living) Seas where she is ecstatic looking at the fish).

Pinocchio was great. The reaction as she gave him a little kiss on the cheek (unprompted, by the way) was perfect. She actually recognized him as well, since she had seen that movie beforehand (Pinocchio and The Little Mermaid were it I think, along with some of the classic Mickey and Winnie the Pooh cartoons). She knows them all (well, most of them) now though, so next time will be even better!

Thanks :). And I know ALL about trying to figure out how both of them think :p. I have a good handle on it and Beth knows that. She also is great and works with me to make sure she gets what she wants... (erm, is that really a good thing? heh)

Thanks :) and yes, there was some disappointment in the imagined tearing up of the TSM FP. I typically am not a fan of MGM (Yes, I'm one of those!), so this was one of the few things I was looking forward to. I didn't mention it though, since I didn't want to push what I wanted on to them needing a break. As for whether I rode it or not, you'll have to stay tuned!

1900 PF was definitely a let down. I'd head there again, but probably not for breakfast unless I get a discount.

On to other news. I'm dropping LTT from my February plan. I had originally planned a lunch there, as the menu looked good. Unfortunately, I'll be there while it's not only a character meal, but also the "Thanksgiving Dinner" thing they do for dinner right now. I have no interest in that. I'm too picky of an eater and Thanksgiving has never been my favorite. Looks like I'll need another TS somewhere for that day. Luckily, I planned it on a day where I'm hopping between MK and AK, so I can use a resort meal as a stop over and not really have to struggle with transportation.

I would like Maya Grill, but they don't do lunch :( Maybe I'll switch up and do a CS lunch and then have dinner at MG... hmmm. We shall see (I have until tomorrow morning to decide!), but if there are any other suggestions, let me know! (Just remember, solo, no buffet, picky eater (beef only), and Yak and Yeti doesn't interest me :p) My original plan is back a few pages, I know I linked to it from the main post too.

great updates!! sorry to hear about the breakfast at 1900 Fare; I have read a mix of reviews...but, I have read a mixof reviews on just about all the buffets (seems just depends on day or time :confused3 )! seems ya'll have the hang of letting Emily enjoy herself and ya'll on her pace...good for ya'll...can't wait to hear about DHS and TSM! popcorn::
:wave2:

Okay...I'm a little behind on everyone's updates (the only thing I've had time for the last several days is posting some photopass pictures to my trip report). Allan, great updates and love the pictures on Dumbo and with Pinocchio. I'm sorry 1900 Park Fair was not that good. We've never eaten there; I've heard breakfast is much better than dinner -- I've ready dinner is very salty and not very tasty. And we're with you, the GF is not for us either (DH won't even step in the place).

Thanks for the update. Usually our little one, DD 3, is the one waking us up in the mornings but in WDW we always have to drag her out of bed. It was really good of you to accomodate your girls needs. Small things like that mean so much to a person.

Hmmm, when we were there after Thanksgiving in 2006 (like two days after Thanksgiving), we went there for dinner and they gave us the Thanksgiving meal. I thought it was standard, though. They had the characters, too. I thought it was all just fabulous! But then they did away with the characters. Have they brought them back or is it just for a certain time of year???? That was one of my favorite character meals of the whole trip and the first of character interactions for my then 23 month old. It was awesome! So I was disappointed when I heard they had stopped doing that. Any info you have on this would be great!

the character meal at LTT is only while they refrub the Crystal Palace...that is what they are saying at this time...but it is only during the breakfast and lunch sittings....dinner is there regular dinner line up...

Allen sorry to hear that they are doing "thanksgiving" lineup in Feb. we would love it but I guess not everyone likes that type of food! what about the Plaza; I have read that they have really good sandwiches

Thanks, Connie! I didn't know that Crystal Palace was getting a refurb. You always impress me with your Disney knowledge! :thumbsup2

Allan, are you concerned at all about getting lonesome on your solo trip? Or are you meeting up with friends???

Thanks :), I was a bit disappointed in 1900 PF, but live and learn. Disney buffets seem so temperamental. Some days they're good, others, not so much.

DHS will be coming tonight or tomorrow most likely, was busy all day today.

Thank you for reading it! :). Neither are particularly morning people, so that makes it rough. I guess I figured that they'd catch the same vibe I do there and naturally get up early (I'm not an early riser at all, plus I'm on Central time, yet I was up at around 6:30 every morning...)

Their typical fare is sort of a Thanksgiving style dinner. Turkey (and beef and pork), cranberry sauce, stuffing (erm.. "dressing" ;)) and that type of thing. Not my style, but the lunch menu looked great.

Thanks for answering!

I already have plans for The Plaza, and there's really no other TS place in there (Plaza, Tony's (have plans for), CP, and LTT...). I did find a replacement though, since I'm splitting that day with AK I'm going to try for Yak and Yeti for lunch that day (or dinner, either would work)

Thanks, Connie! I didn't know that Crystal Palace was getting a refurb. You always impress me with your Disney knowledge! :thumbsup2

Allan, are you concerned at all about getting lonesome on your solo trip? Or are you meeting up with friends???
Not really. I know I may get a little "misty eyed" missing the girls down there, but I live alone and spend most of my time alone anyway :p And there's always random people to chat with (smoking may be very bad for you, but at least it's fairly social!)

The return of the Big Red Text can only mean 1 thing, return of PTR type information! (Ok, it could also mean that I misclicked on the Dark Green in the box, or that I typed COLOR="DarkRed" by accident...or a multitude of other things, but who needs logic here?!)

Well, you all know that I'm planning a solo trip in Feb. If you don't, then please open your eyes up a little and read the red text posts! Well, you also all know that today (Oct 27) is the day that all ADRs go from a max of 90 days out to a max of 180 days out. It's also about my 100 day out mark... so yeah, I had to do ADRs today.

Let's just say it was a mess. First off, I napped last night from about 8-10pm and stayed up until 2am (CDT). I watched the online ADR system roll over to the next day, but it was still limited to 90 days! (And I chatted up with a few other late-nighters who were doing the same).

So, setting my alarm for 4:45am, I went off to bed and fell asleep around 2:45am. My alarm sounds and I'm up and at the computer 15 minutes later (stupid auto pressing snooze while asleep!). I load up the page, (which I conveniently had made an HTML file so I could load it up on my desktop and directly click each restaurant), choose Le Cellier, enter in Feb 7, enter in 12:00pm (I'm going for lunch), and then sit and wait. And wait. And wait.

Well, system crashed at 5:01 (so 6:01 eastern, please follow along!). Most likely, it was never fully up in the first place. We all hit it so hard that it melted down. And this was only the start.

I waited out the next bit playing Tropico 3 on the PC (fun game!) and called the dining number right at 6. *Boooop* *Boooop* *Boooop* *Boooop* (That's the busy signal!) I kept at it for about 20 minutes, getting all sorts of random "Go Away we have too many calls!" automated messages. So, I keep trying off and on until about 7:50 while getting ready for work. (I also kept trying the website, but it had completely melted down and had been taken offline for booking).

So, I'm at work and I keep trying to call every so often. In the meantime, reports from the BIG HUGE OCT 27 ADR thread are coming in saying that CMs are saying the system is down. So I keep trying with my crappy in-building cell service, as well as on my breaks in the morning. Eventually I hear the *brrrrrinnnnngg* of pixie dust. I sit on hold for about 5 minutes (woohoo Short time!) and get told that the system is down, try again later. (It's now about 9:30am, maybe closer to 10) :headache:

To make a long story shorter.. I eventually got through again (after 2 dropped calls while on hold) at around 12:15pm. I speak with Nicole for a few and she helps me out. We get Le Cellier and Sci-Fi into my basket. She searches for 50s PT and *poof*, system meltdown. She tries again in vain for a few minutes, but we have to give it up. So I'm still empty handed at this point.

Well, continuing on, more busy signals and busy circuits, I get through again. This time I speak with Dawn. Unfortunately, Dawn can't help me either as her system had just gone down for the count. She was sweet about it though, so that was a plus!

At any rate, I take my 2pm break and try a few more times (well, I had been trying a lot in the meantime). After the 3rd or 4th attempt, I hear the pixie dust again! I press the 1 2 2 to go through (Reservations, No, No) and sit on hold. About 10 minutes later, Beatrice picks up the line. My first words were "How's your system doing?" And she responds "It's fine at the moment!". Woohoo, I'm on my way!

So, she starts entering my information, First Name, Last Na.... and there it goes. I jinxed it :(. She closed everything out and tried again, I sped through the information part and we got to the ADRs. Now's the moment of truth. I told her to book for 2, since the system gets wonky when booking for 1 (she didn't believe me, and I told her to try and book Le Cellier for 1 and see what happens, and then try for 2 on the same day. She was amazed!) and we were off! Le Cellier, Sci-Fi, 50s PT, and things started slowing down. We snuck the Teppan Edo in and then confirmed.

Well, it was loading, and loading, and loading, so in the meantime, I decided (with her suggestion) to go ahead and book my resort package as well. We started things there and then confirmations came up! Woohoo I can eat 4 meals so far! We started on the next 4, only to have it lock up searching on #4 :(. We continued with my resort package and finished booking that up.

Now, to reattempt the rest of the ADRs (I had 12 planned total!). We go back through, now armed with a resort confirmation number, and get through the next set of 4. The only missing one was Yak & Yeti of all things. I'm thinking it wasn't loaded rather than it was booked though! 8 Down, 4 to go. I had confirmations in hand for all 7 successful ones so far! Next 4 go in without a hitch and poof. Suddenly I have a whole trip planned...

This whole exchange took 47 minutes as timed by her phone, plus 12 minutes of hold time for a 59 minute "break". Um, oops. At least I didn't really take a lunch today!

I have also written Guest Relations about the 3 CMs I named here. They were excellent, and most especially Beatrice. She was just a blast to have on the phone and we had a grand ol' time working around the system.

So, without further ado (I do have a lot of ado, don't I?)
The Plan(tm)
When - Feb 4-Feb 11 2010
Where - Coronado Springs Resort! (:thumbsup2 Kathy!)
The Good Stuff (ADRs!)
Feb 4 - San Angel Inn @ 6:30pm
Feb 5 - Biergarten @ 12:00pm, Teppan Edo @ 7:00pm
Feb 6 - Sci-Fi Dine In @ 12:00pm, Artist Point @ 5:30pm
Feb 7 - Le Cellier @ 12:30pm, Tony's @ 6:55pm
Feb 8 - Boma @ 4:45pm
Feb 9 - 50s PT @ 12:10pm, Yachtsman @ 7:00pm
Feb 10 - Nothing :(. This is where Yak & Yeti should go.
Feb 11 - The Plaza @ 11:45am

Most of the times were spot on with what I wanted, the only exceptions are 50s PT (10 minutes) and Tony's (5 minutes). I don't think I can complain about those though!

So, here's to my long day with 2hrs of sleep! /cheers
