Well I probably should have been reading up on rumors of the new cameras being released next month- or studying some comparrison charts so I could be more up to speed and participate on the latest Nikon vs. Canon vs. Pentax vs. Olympus camera body and lens lineup debate. But we sluffed off and went out last night and took some pictures instead. ;)

We had a real good time. :goodvibes

Here are a few of mine...

Very nice shots, Jeff! Looks like a great time. My favorite is a tie between the pier and sailboat sunset shots. Beautiful. :thumbsup2

Great shots, looks like you guys had fun. I Love the silhouettes shots nicely done.

Gorgeous! :goodvibes Love the dolphin shot. What a beautiful neighborhood you have!

love the sunlit daughter and the dolphin (mainly cause i know how hard they can be to get:rotfl2: )

Great shots by dad and daughter, and yet more proof that one takes much better photos by actually USING their gear than by debating the merits of this body over that body, this lens over that lens, or this brand over that one.

Kudos to both of you!

to help you out on the reading you missed, there's another brand out there, called Sony..::cool1:
seriously though, you can read anytime, on the other hand, the quality time you spend with your daughter is priceless and ALWAYS a much better way to spend your time:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

I so want to live beside the sea.

Gorgeous pictures, though - both yours and your daughter's. What sort of age is she - she seems to be doing pretty well at this photography lark!

Great shots! she has a good eye! Its amazing the colors that are in the sunsets :goodvibes

Thanks for the kind words all-

Alan- she will be 8 in a couple months. When mommy upgraded to a D80 she latched onto the D40 and has been using it quite enthusiastically ever since. She took it to school last year along with some of her prints for a talent show and came home with a special invitation to join the Photography Club next year (2nd grade) which is normally only open to 4th grade and up. I thought that was pretty cool. (Alright- I will stop gushing now.) :goodvibes

What a great way to spend the day. Looks like you got yourself a budding photographer. Great job!

Wow - for a seven year old... I am very impressed. she obviously has a natural eye for composition. Does she have an understanding of things like exposure, shutter speed/aperture, DoF etc? I ask because I have an 8y/o who is starting to learn a bit more about using her p&s, and am wondering whether to start introducing the technicalities...

regards,
/alan

Those look great!! A+ :thumbsup2 Dont you just love Florida!

Man I miss living on the coast :(

I have ALWAYS love your photography and it looks like your daughter has inherited your talent!! Very nice photos!!

Thanks Alan-

So far I just like to see her enjoying the camera. No real lessons on the ins & outs of exposure yet but maybe soon. ;)

that is great, i was just hearing somewhere how many "greats" IE composers etc started at a really early age..just think how nice it would be if she really ends up loving it and maybe actually can work in a profession she loves when she grows up, lots of people never get to follow their dreams:thumbsup2
Alan, if i recall we had a discussion like this a while back...don't you think it's a natural progression toward wanting to learn the technicalities in their own time? if i recall the other thread right most of the dad's were "teach them the techniques" and most of the moms were "let them explore their creativity first" :)
