There is way too much in this that isn't making sense.
My first question is how big are these houses? In my house if anyone is upstairs you can hear everything downstairs...sounds even travel through the heating ductwork so I can hear them talking if I'm in the basement.
To take the son with them wouldn't one of them had to go upstairs to get him out of bed? Who did that?
Why would the Mom say ok to taking the son, but not the daughter...at that time I'd be saying leave him home with the sitter too. Emergency rooms are known to be very long drawn out processes.
A lot just doesn't make sense or add up.
