I'm on somewhat of a limited budget, but I'm choosing between the D 90 or the D 70. Has anyone used both and would make some helpful comments?

I realize the D 90 has video (I have a camcorder so not greatly helpful to me), but what exactly would benefit paying the full price as opposed to a good deal on a D 70?

I hope I'm not being too vague, I'm just hoping to piggyback someone's experience.

The D90 will be much better at higher ISO settings. The D70 produced very noisy (grainy) photos at higher ISOs. The sensor, metering and auto focus have all improved with the D90. I guess you need to evaluate how important those things are to you. Quite honestly, the video on the D90 doesn't impress me. But, the other improvements would make it worthwhile to me.

Maybe you could split the difference. The D80 gives some performance improvements over the D70 and comes in at $550 new.

Other that the cost savings, I do not think you can make a fair comparison between three year old technology and current. I had a D70 and it was considered great for it's day. The D90, as stated earlier, has much better light sensitivity and many other newer features. If you are serious about improving your photography, you will feel limited by the D70 quickly!

Don't tell my husband that - we shopped around all over the place and couldn't get anywhere close to $550:guilty:
   I love my D80 though so it was worth it

That is just for the body- Beach has it for $525 w/4gb card. With a 18-135mm lens- its $740 including a card. Mine was $782 back in Oct. w/lens and card.

Thanks Susan. I realized after that it was body only. We actually got exactly what you described except I had a 20% off coupon code using paypal so I ended up paying just under $650 - I think it came to $646 with tax.

You got a great deal! Feel better? :)
Did you get the 18-135mm lens?
