Anyone have insight on how D23 affects crowds in the park at WDW? I was just in the planning stages of an early September trip when I came across the announcement today that D23 will be Sept 8-10th at the Contemporary. Would it be better to go after this event to try and get those low Sept wait times? For reference I was looking at Sept 5th-15th for our stay. Would D23 be a minimal bump in crowds for that weekend only? Any insight is greatly appreciated!

I think impact will be minimal. I went a few years ago and we spent most of the time in panels and other events at the Contemporary. The conference isn't nearly as big as the D23 Expo.

I thought D23 was every two years where they tell u about new rides etc. is it yearly 🤷‍♂️

D23 holds many different events throughout the year. D23 Expo is held every two years in CA. OP is referring to Destination D23 which will be held at CR in WDW in September 2023.

What happens at Destination D23 do they tell you about new rides etc coming

If I hadn't been scheduled to work them I wouldn't have known that a D23 event was taking place. Most of the attendees will not be in the parks during the day. Stick with whatever works best for you.

Perfect. Thanks. That was the insight I was looking for! I will keep the trip as planned.

Faster than Taylor Swift tickets, actually. Sales were over in like 30 min.
Yeah, you had to be on it right at the time they went on sale. I was there and the room was half empty, I think they limited capacity due to COVID. We'll see if they do that again.

I'm considering going. I would like to know what they plan to do on Sep 8 since previously they've done a new movie screening, but there won't be any Disney movies debuting the week after D23 next year!

Do attendees usually come for the convention and then leave, or do they stay for the week following? We're booked for 9th-19th, and I grabbed the 7th-9th in a studio in case any of my group of 7 want to go to Destination D23. But I'm really on the fence about this. I'm wondering if we should just move our trip out another week to avoid any extra crowds.

Don't worry about it. It's not a lot of people. It's nothing like the Expo in Anaheim. Some attendees do go to the parks, but it won't make a difference.
