D23 Rumors and Info

This felt really, REALLY thrown together. I wonder if announcements were cut last minute

Like many previous posters, I also found the Parks and Resorts presentation disappointing.

Two things particularly struck me.

First, even with the “Magic, Connection, and Technology” (or whatever the exact title was) part of his presentation, Josh D'Amaro didn't say a single word, didn't make a single reference to Genie+. The return of a “skip the line” system and its interface is certainly not a small thing. The decision not to talk about it is a cue, at a minimum, that Disney understands how controversial that is.

Second, I was surprised by how many times Josh D'Amaro and other speakers, by gesture or verbally, invited the audience to applause, to show some appreciation. Certainly, Josh D'Amaro wasn't booed. But the audience was obviously not so excited. In previous D23 presentations on Parks and Resorts, I remember how excited the audience was, sometimes the speakers even had to talk over the applause in order to go on with their script within the scheduled timeframe.

Everything is clearly not so magical, even at the “most magical place on Earth”...

I remember Chapek having to stop himself a few times because the applause either came at an expected moment or lasted longer than anticipated

This year was big-time "please clap" energy

Can you post a link to Universal’s announcement of those projects opening dates?
One is for Epic Universe when it opens. They haven't officially announced Zelda. Either way it is new attractions coming. The Disney ones were already planned pre Covid.

So you’re comparing favorably things that haven‘t been announced to things that have. Universal pay you to do that?

Universal is known for not making an official announcements until the new attraction is well under construction.

Exactly. Neither Universal or Disney has announced anything new. So why sing the praises of Universal over Disney?
Why you ask? Today was just another thing to add to growing list of disappointments from the Disney. Listening to the Dis Universal has grown a lot in regards to bookings over Disney.

I am reminded of the equally underwhelming October 1st MK celebration devoid of celebratory speeches from the stage.

Has Disney forgotten how to host big events???

Because you keep singing the praises of Universal even though they aren’t doing anything better.
They are though. They brought pretty much all entertainment back and are operating like normal. Plus their new theme park is still being built. I will take a new theme park over 3 mediocre rides.

“All of their entertainment“ is a few shows with a few people in each. Their new theme park is five years out. Most of their current rides are mediocre.
