D23 Predictions

With Guardians 2 being released on 4K bluray, early I think Disney are going to formally going to announce that they are investing in the format.

I expect a Pirates box set to be included in that Initial slate.

No one has mentioned the cruise line! I'm hoping they talk about the new ships and hopefully unveil the name of the 2021 ship as they are getting closer to begin construction!

I take it "cruise line" falls under the parks and resorts session? Ugh, WDW is going to get about 15 minutes if we're lucky. And most of that will probably be updates on TSL and SWL - and not opening dates for those.

My bets on WDW Park news: they will give us a season/year (e.g. "summer 2018" or whenever) for TSL, and nothing even that specific for SW (maybe a chunk of a year).

They WILL talk specifically about France pavilion construction (presumably Rat ride), and probably specifics on the fate of UoE (I hope it is GOTG). Maybe a new WS pavilion. I think that is all we get about Epcot beyond talk of a general long-term plan/update.

Is GMR at DHS still closing this year for a new attraction? May hear about that.

I'm 50/50 on whether they announce a gondola.

I hope I'm wrong and we get a lot of awesome WDW news, but not counting on it.

Oh and FWIW, I love Zootopia but the AK rumor still seems far-fetched to me. They've never even managed a regular m&g at WDW with Judy & Nick yet. (Now I could believe that going into AK in the near term.)

My other take on the zootopia rumor is a general one about recent IPs: why would you invest in something that you don't know will have staying power? It's like when people say Spain would be a good pavilion to shoehorn Gigantic into. We have no idea if that movie will even be good or people will care about it in ten years, so why bargain a whole area around that when it might flop? Especially when there are proven properties (tangled, monsters inc, the incredibles) that have little to no representation in the parks.

Cruiseline actually fell under a different category last year that had a small panel. With 2 hours slated for Parks and Resorts even if they had a small DCL section they can do a lot wirh WDW. I mean the SW and Toy Story announcement only took what felt like 15 minutes.

ooh, I like the idea of this thread - love some good armchair imagineering ;)

Not sure I would have much different than what you have - though I suspect we get less specifics than what you have laid out. I could see something about EPCOT and how it will be the next area of focus, but with not a lot of detail (maybe about the new country pavilion, something for Innoventions, and Ratatouille - and then just broad thoughts beyond that)

I don't think they announce the Star Wars Hotel yet ... definitely something on the Gondolas though - and I guess an update on CBR with it (maybe the official announcement that DVC is coming there) and then related to that - perhaps maybe even that they are doing away with "Deluxe" Moderate" "Value" for resort classifications
Have you heard they are trying to do away with resort classifications and if so,why do you think?

I've seen it mentioned here a few times from a few different sources - so just a rumor at this point but I think they want to move away from that so easier to charge a wider variety of prices ... especially with the gondolas coming to Art of Animation and Pop they will want to charge more for those but they wouldn't fully qualify for what is currently the definition of a "moderate".

Will you be posting on this thread or should I subscribe to a different one?

there is an official D23 thread in this forum as well which is where I believe @rteetz will be posting the bulk of the updates:
https://www.disboards.com/threads/official-2017-d23-expo-thread.3612435/

There is also one in the Disneyland Forum 9but that has a lot of chatter among people attending so will be more than just big announcement) and I suspect the main "news and rumor" thread will also wind up having the biggest announcements posted and discussed there as well

I've heard the gondolas will also be at CBR....true?

yes, that is probably the main location - and why many people are predicting the construction going on there will be for DVC and one of the drivers behind the gondolas so they can sell those DVC as having "direct" access to two parks as the system will connect to both EPCOT and DHS

I fully expect they'll sit on that one for a while. I think they'll want to put it into context with another offering, like Star Wars land or the CBR DVC expansion. But just my 2c.

It seems like in the past they haven't announced DVC until further in construction than other projects (I think because they don't want news of the next property to negatively impact sales for what is currently being offered) so if this will be viewed as really one project or a key part of DVC then I think they will hold off a bit

There's no need to announce this until they have something to sell with it...and we're not there yet.

Realizing that under Florida law...they can't announce timeshares until they get to benchmarks in construction...

The idea being no Ponzi schemes with fake timeshares (a proud part of Florida history)...

That's why dvc "announcements" always seem late

This man has peeled back the curtain on this mystery. That'll be a jeopardy question someday

Seriously...nobody ever wondered why they don't sell dvc upfront? They could have 2 or 3 completely paid for prior to construction if they could get away to it.

The rules are not meant for disney...they are meant for dirtbags who put an "option" In on beach front property in Boca and put a huge sign out front that says "pre-sale special...luxury beachfront living from the 500's...yours from $325 today!!! Call 1-888-UR-SCRWD"...

...without any intention of ever lifting a finger. (The prices are wrong...think whatever such a timeshare would go for...the concept is the same)

And anywhere where you get that much sun...people get stupid...

I truthfully never put much thought into it but what you say makes sense. If there be ocean, there be swindlers trying to rip you off

Hence they "it's beautiful down there..." swampland that was sold on the eastern seaboard and the upper Midwest door to door in the 1920's...

...a lot of those in the Orange County region were bought by a company called "Retlaw" in 1964
