D23 Predictions

I love this description. Thank you! Do they have lots of parties/meetups after the convention closes for the day?

Well, I have cosplayed Disney at Dragoncon, but I'd probably be too busy at this one. It sounds amazing and something I could do by myself without having to take a companion who doesn't "get it."

I know the DIS Unplugged Disneyland edition team has done meet ups in the past and talking about doing one this year. In the past they did Thursday evening so people could meet up before the event - not sure if/what will be this year

Current rumors suggest that the globe will be removed from the show. More pyro will be included alongside drones. Projection wise, there isn't too much they can do - only feasible options are 1) projection mist screens like Fantasmic/RoL or 2) Projections on WS countries (now that'd be cool!)

Illuminations in the 90s (I *think* - could be early 2000s as well) focused on going around the World Showcase and would highlight each country - with a salutation, national anthem or historic song ... the whole showcase would be dark except for that country and it would be fully illuminated, would have a small burst of fireworks to highlight it was the country for that segment and then lasers from somewhere in the Showcase Lagoon.

I'd LOVE if they went back to celebrating the countries like that - they do it slightly during the holidays/NYE fireworks, but I think Illuminations can stay as "Illuminations" with a retheme ... something like "Illuminations: Legends of the World" or something like that.

Oooo I leave for a couple of hours to buy a new fridge and come back to a post like this... I've got some reading to do!

We all know there are a lot of rumors as to what the future holds for the Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, but i'm interested to know what everyone genuinely think will be announced at the D23 Expo next week

My predictions:
MK
- Stitch replacement
- Future of Speedway (probably replacement)

E
- Universe of Energy replacement
- New WS pavilion
- Ratatouille ride + ride in UK pav.
- IllumiNations replacement
- Tease at other changes coming in the future

HS
- SWL / TSL updates
- Great Movie Ride replacement

Other
- Star Wars Hotel
- Gondolas

I personally think this D23 will be a big one for Epcot. What do you think will be announced next week?

I'll be at D23, and I'm hoping to be in the Parks and Resorts presentation. I don't think all of this will be announced. The "other" study you have listed, I don't think will be announced. We all know gondolas are coming, so I don't think it will really be talked about. A Star Wars Hotel has just been a rumor with no real evidence of it coming. So, I don't think that will be announced either. They are trying to get Star Wars open before the gondolas. I don't think a Great Movie Ride replacement will be announced, because everyone would lose their minds if they announce that another ride is closing at DHS.

I think Ratatouille will be announced. I hope Illuminations stays, so I hope that doesn't happen. Maybe a new pavilion will be announced? I'm sure a Universe of Energy replacement will be announced.

I really can't wait to hear updates on Star Wars Land and Toy Story Land.

Now for Disneyland Resort...I think a Marvel Land will be announced even if I would not like that.

The SWE area will have a full scale model. That has been confirmed by D23 so I can't wait to see that.
I can't wait to see that now! I didn't realize they would have a model

We are at WDW now. The local news (yesterday I think) said that Brazil will be added to WS near Germany. I believe this was on the ABC station. I only caught the end of the report so I don't know what else they may have said.

Firstly, hope you have a great time at the Expo! :)

Gondolas haven't been officially announced, we just know about them from permits filed and Disney hasn't made any comment on them. I would imagine they'll use D23 to officially announce it, but I could be wrong. Star Wars Hotel may be a long shot for D23 announcement, yes, but it is most likely coming sometime in the future - we've seen concept art and info about it. (I don't think Disney would go through all the hassle of making concept art if it wasn't something they are genuinely considering...). I've heard rumors that GMR will close in August-October this year, rumored completion in 2019/2020. But yes, I agree, everyone will lose their minds!

Ratatouille is almost certain at this point based on permits filed. IllumiNations is going, no idea on exactly when but 2018/19 is being thrown about - especially now Siemens have not renewed their sponsorship of the show. I think we'll see new pavilion announced - local media and online sources are reporting Brazil. UoE will definitely get something announced.

Toy Story Land will get an opening period/date announced (already confirmed this info will be coming at D23 from a recent event) and SWL is going to have a model - so can't wait to see that!

I'd also love to see Marvel for DLR and DLP! Its coming, just a case of when its announced I think.

Eh the concept art we've seen for the hotel may not have even come from Disney. Anyone can pay for those surverys and that kind of art really takes no time. I was skeptic about it when the art didn't have Disney stamped anywhere on it.

Agreed. The most focus at D23 will be on EPCOT and SWL and TSL updates. Brazil is the likely new country and Spain will follow IF Gigantic is a hit (announced at D23 2019). An Inside Out replacement is likely announced along with the central core and entry updates. We'll hear about the Gardians roller coaster and updates at Living Seas/Nemo and Friends. Maybe the Land updates.

The only comments about Mk will be related to Pirates updates and maybe the Haunted Mansion restaurant.

Don't forget the international parks. They may do a big update on Hong Kong Disneyland, the new Fantasyland in Japan (and maybe the updates at Disney Seas), and TSL in Shangshi.

The local news repeats the same quackpot reports we get around here...fyi

I'm going to shoot for some high stakes bets here:
1) Australia is announced as the new pavilion in the WS -- "It's a country AND a continent! This is huge!" (250-1 odds)
2) Universe of Energy gutted and replaced with a Wall-E based conservation, pollution, and ecology pavilion with guest star Gizmo Duck (425-1 odds)
3) Star Wars Land model reveals Jar Jar Binks children's playground exhibit (25-1)
4) Great Movie Ride being gutted and replaced with the "Mediocre Movie Ride" featuring the made for Disney Channel hits of the 2000s -- "Look mom! High School Musical 3!" This ride will require approximately 26 Zac Efron AAs (1,000-1)
5) New park, tenatively named "Universal Sucks" and centering around the feature land "Henry Patter" (100,000-1)
6) Gondolas are announced and are actually water-based, will take patrons directly from their resort to Italy in Epcot (2,500-1)

I expect to be out about $50.

1. I like the slow glide of the globe (even though I can't see what is on the screens) out into the middle of the lagoon, but if this were one of the big "changes" I would be fine with that.
2. More pyro -- always good
3. Drones -- ehhh, I saw what they did for the Disney Springs holiday show and while I think that is way cool, how would you ever create a picture of anything that people standing in a CIRCLE around the lagoon would all look at and be like "ah, I see what that is". I guess they could have the drones circle so that the picture is shown to everyone around the WS. That being said, they could just put strobes and lasers on them and then turn it into a huge rave instead. I'm back on board with drones!
4. Please no more mist screens. I'm over it.

1) Universe of Energy (going out on a limb and predicting it won't be Guardians)

OOOOH, I give you 75-1 odds on that one. Put me down for a fiver!

... just hoping it isn't "Illuminations: The Last Jedi" ;)

"Illumoanations: Ratatoulections of the Galaxy"

This isn't directed at YOU rteetz, but isn't that kind of food available just like anywhere anymore? I mean the bowl concept has been around forever, and bao pork buns are available at your regular asian places - although making them cheeseburger and curry is kinda questionable. Come on WDW, we need more interesting food! If people say its weird we're going to get more nuggets and hot dogs (shudders).

Amen!

As far as D23 - I love reading all these suspected happenings :)

My bet is on one thing being announced that nobody anticipated/predicted. That will be totally left field. I also think they will announce 2 countries coming to WS.

One more thing - I am betting that we are all going to be let down at the end of it...expected more announcements, etc. Disney seems to have a track record for that.

Funny enough but having actually been to the expo I wasn't let down at all by the experience when I was there. I heard so many people grumbling because they already knew SW land was coming and there was nothing new but to me the cost of the ticket is to experience people talk passionately about these projects (nothing like Joe Rohde explaining where the influences for Aulani and the Poly redo came from) or to share in the moment with other super fans. Of course those at home don't get the buzz you feel in a room but I can say I've never genuinely been disappointed in a con experience be it SW Celebration where I got into 0 panels and spent 3 days walking around or NYCC where I go to big panels, walk around, see all the cosplay, etc.

Current rumors suggest that the globe will be removed from the show.
That to me is great, I just never cared for the globe, it's about time Illuminations gets redone/even renamed.

The fate of Universe of Engergy I'm looking forward to the most to be announced, which isn't a prediction I guess, just an about time hopefully we here for real what's going I guess.

I am sure there will be less specifics than we would like probably some of the EPCOT stuff will be more like "a reimagining of the entrance, and central corridor, and several pavilions of Future World" or something like that
