D23 Predictions

But isn't that telling that food which isn't *that* out there is deemed "weird" by a good chunk of the audience. And if you recall when Skippers Canteen opened people were really doing how "weird" the food was and attendance was low and the food there isn't that strange either (some just has different names)

Yeah - I honestly don't understand it. Those offerings aren't exactly century eggs, ya know?

We all know there are a lot of rumors as to what the future holds for the Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, but i'm interested to know what everyone genuinely think will be announced at the D23 Expo next week

My predictions:
MK
- Stitch replacement
- Future of Speedway (probably replacement)

E
- Universe of Energy replacement
- New WS pavilion
- Ratatouille ride + ride in UK pav.
- IllumiNations replacement
- Tease at other changes coming in the future

HS
- SWL / TSL updates
- Great Movie Ride replacement

Other
- Star Wars Hotel
- Gondolas

I personally think this D23 will be a big one for Epcot. What do you think will be announced next week?
I think something in MK may get teased, but I don't know if we'll get a concrete answer.

There'll (or should be) a lot of Epcot stuff, along with previewing the new lands in the studios. I'm excited for Epcot additions but hoping they aren't too far off kilter (see what I did there?) of the theme of the park. Hoping we also get gondola confirmation too

That sounds amazing. I'm embarrassed to say that until recently I didn't know it was a FAN thing that I could go to. I thought it was industry fancy pants people. What's the event like? It looks like its not too late if I decided I wanted to join up?

It is a Disney exclusive comic con. So people will be cosplaying, panels will go on some with new information, some with old stuff and about history, some about then behind the magic type stuff. The show floor willnalso have distributors who have Disney stuff to sell, travel agents giving out trips, and anything under the Disney umbrella from music, to movies, to animation, to parks, to marvel and star wars.

I love this description. Thank you! Do they have lots of parties/meetups after the convention closes for the day?

Well, I have cosplayed Disney at Dragoncon, but I'd probably be too busy at this one. It sounds amazing and something I could do by myself without having to take a companion who doesn't "get it."

You think they'll make Illuminations more projection based? I'm hoping that since its on the water, it'll remain gunpowder and STORY heavy.
I think they could utilize the water fountains and make a "screen" like in fantastic/ rivers of light but I don't think it'd be totally projection based

True, or they could make it full on World of Colors, which is great...once or twice. I just very much hope, as others have said, that they keep this as an Epcot show. I think the unity theme in the World Showcase is so on point and moving.

Of course, the only parade I ever gave a poop about was Tapestry of Nations and obviously that wasn't very popular.

I was really young (like 5) when tapestry was a thing, but I always thought it was cool visually and as I got older I kinda figured out what the whole millennium celebration was about and it made the nostalgia even better for me. Epcot is not a good place for parades unfortunately.

I also get chills during the voiceover before the start of illuminations. I'm with you that it's a deep and resounding message. I think the show could use some revamping though (ditching the new millennium theme)

Very possibly seeing as we have no solid rumors on the IP for Stitch replacement, nor what (if anything) will replace Speedway.

Epcot will be the big one this year IMO. (I like what you did there with Off Kilter ;)). Gondola announcement looking very likely considering ground has already been broken on the stations at multiple locations and permits have been filed.

Current rumors suggest that the globe will be removed from the show. More pyro will be included alongside drones. Projection wise, there isn't too much they can do - only feasible options are 1) projection mist screens like Fantasmic/RoL or 2) Projections on WS countries (now that'd be cool!)

I would love to see drones in the parks for shows. And I'm never opposed to more pyro.:firefight

Well when I heard they had a "sample" seat out front...I knew immediately that they identified a potential problem...

What's your specs, skip? That matters...

For a second there I thought you actually were there.... many varied sizes in my group and no problems fitting-------

Perhaps it's my cynicism but I think we will likely get half of what has been churning out of the rumor mill for the past year. Epcot will almost certainly be the focus. I predict three announcements:

1) Universe of Energy (going out on a limb and predicting it won't be Guardians)
2) France - Ratatouille
3) Either a new pavilion or an attraction existing one.

More with be teased but vaguely.

I thing the speedway is gonna get modified/axed down the road. I just don't think it'll be a thing they touch on this year.

Epcot really needs to be focused on though. Rat is far from my first choice in that park, but at least it fits in with the country it's associated with. So that's a plus

I'm sure there are parties and meet ups but we go to the parks. Disneyland is open until Midnight so we usually find ourselves there. I think different groups come up with stuff to do in the Anaheim area and I'm sure there are "unofficial" meet ups as well. It is a great solo adventure because unlike say San Diego or NY Comic Con you at least know you all are interested in something under the Disney umbrella.
