D23 Holiday Events same weekend as DAP

I think this event looks great. If I didn't have plans already I would love to do it. I wonder if they have a discount for AP holders since they don't need tickets, or if you can keep the 2 day tickets towards a renewal. If I wasn't leaving Sunday night and would miss at least half of the event I might consider it.

We had a conference call with the event services team helping us with the TSM party this past week and I am really surprised they didn't mention this to us.

If you want to attend TSM you will need to be at the entrance to MGM prior to the party (9PM) and escorted back to the party. No one will be permitted into the TSM party from other areas of the park - only those escorted from the front of the park will be allowed in the party.

Thanks for clarifying this. Argh! I don't want to have to miss the DIS party but I want to get my money's worth from the D23 event too! :sad2:

I've emailed D23 customer service about this. I'll post if they reply...

Sounds very tempting. Anyone else think it's an amazing coincidence that they chose the traditional dates for Mousefest?
I find it very interesting too. I'm sure Disney realizes many fans will be there that weekend for what would have been Mousefest. I guess what surprises me most is the amount of time the entire event takes up. It's going to overlap with a lot of other people's plans and community events. I know choice is typically a good thing, but in this case, with friends involved, I'm not so sure. I sort of hate to say this, but with the size and timing of this event can we officially say D23 (official Disney fan community) is competing with Unofficial fan communities???

I'd think saving the 2 days towards a renewal would be the only option, but not a bad option at all if you plan to renew your AP for 2010.
I have so many things planned already trying to integrate this into the weekend would make it too hectic in my opinion. I'm sure for some its going to work out great, but there's no way I could swing it.

Do you need to be in Florida to order the tickets for the D23 on 12/12-12/13? I thought I read somewhere tickets went on sale on the 15th and registration was at Epcot.

Is it just me, or does it seem like D23 is trying to squash out the competition? That was my first thought about the end of Mousefest. Now this.

I don't think Disney really has any concept of the scope of the competition, so I'm not so sure that is their plan. If it is the plan though....they are WAY dumber than I thought. The "unofficial" fan communities is what keeps their biggest fans going and motivated to stay their biggest fans IMHO.

I'm pretty sure they know the scope of the competition since they are naming the DIS and other fan sites in surveys. I've also seen replies to threads that show that they are aware of what goes on on the boards. I'm not bashing them for it. Seems like a pretty good business plan to be in control of your own fan base. I just wonder if it's not a coincidence.

When Disney attaches tickets to an event....they are usually good for just that event.

They usually can not be used at a later date and can not be used towards an upgraded ticket.

I do not know this to be true for this particular event, but I will be surprised if it isnt true.

I was thinking about the AP thing too.
D23 appeals to Disney's most loyal group- and the vast majority of those fans will have APs (to WDW or DL).
It surprised me that this was not addressed in the initial announcement.

I am glad to see they are doing something at WDW. It is pricey, but it's still a good deal considering what is included. BUT if an AP Holder has to "re-purchase" those 2 parks days- you've lost most of the value right there.

Plus...we are less than 60 days out. People already have their plans (and ADRs) in place- especially those that involved meeting up with unofficial fan communities.

I really do wonder sometimes who is in charge over there? And WHAT are they thinking? :confused3

I am a D23 member, and an AP holder- but we are only doing DAP that weekend!

I have just been through this scenario with ABD.

We've had a guest ask about the 4 day park hoppers included with the ABD Backstage Magic Adventure.

The guests are Disneyland AP holders and wanted to know if the parkhoppers included in the package could be donated to a charity similar to GKTW.

Disney and ABD have taken the position that the parkhoper tickets are ONLY good during the Adventure. They can not be transferred. They can not be used at another time. They can not be used towards an upgraded ticket.

As I said earlier.....I do not know that the D23 tickets will be treated in the same way....but I will be surprised if they do not carry the same restrictions.

Disney is particular in the way their ticket media is handled and they arebt going to want you to be able to sell your two park tickets for just a bit less than the cost of the entire event.

Again....this is conjecture and opinion. I do not know this to be fact....well the ABD part I know to be fact.

As per the info on the D23 site about M&M "TWO one-day, one-park ticket for EACH GUEST will be available at the Guest Relations window at the Main Entrance to Epcot® on the day of the event. Park tickets and Disney Quest tickets must be used by January 30, 2010." So it appears that the tickets that are included in the M&M even do not have to be used for the event but do have to be used by 1/30/10. It doesn't say if the tickets can be upgraded to APs.

Do you need to be in Florida to order the tickets for the D23 on 12/12-12/13? I thought I read somewhere tickets went on sale on the 15th and registration was at Epcot.
The D23 site just says that you have to be a D23 member in good standing and present your Member number when ordering.

You order the tickets online at this site:

http://d23.disney.go.com/expo.html

If you go there now, you will see some events say tickets are now available but the M&M event says tickets are available Oct 15th.

I think what you saw about EPCOT was for registration. The email you received said:

"Registration begins at 9 a.m. at the Odyssey Center located in Epcot's Future World (just past Test Track). First presentation begins at 10 a.m."

So (from what I understand) you buy your tickets online but you have to register for the event at EPCOT starting at 9 a.m.

Don't think of it as registering for the event itself, as much as a check-in for the event to get your wristbands and etc that don't fit in the envelope that you would pick up at will call...the registration aspect of it is for those wishing to sign up for the Cinderella Suite Tour and a few other things...

So I wanted to update this with the answer I got from D23. Their Saturday-night exclusive viewing and Imagineer chat at Osbourne Lights runs from 9pm to 10pm, and they reconfirmed that the only way to get into "the other event" (aka DISapalooza) was to be outside the park gates when it started, which the podcast team says is at 9pm.

BOOOOOOO!

Also, if anyone was curious, the 1-day, 1-park tickets that come with the D23 event cannot be upgraded or turned into park hoppers.

Thanks for your post. I was unsuccessful getting a reply from D23. That is a shame. But I guess only 1hr of overlap is not too bad.

I would not expect anyone from the DIS event to come get us. But maybe if there are enough of us, someone running the D23 event may agree to escort us from Osbourne Lights over to the DIS event at Toy Story Mania? Of course, the DIS party people would hopefully agree to let us in if we made it over there.

We should probably try to keep track of the people who are signed up for both.

Thank you for your response. I did read it wrong.

This will be my first time doing DAP. I was also signing up for the D23. My question is will the Osbourne lights still be on during the Toy Storia Mania? I found some info on TSM like the food and hours but nothing else.

See, that's what I was wondering. For the private parties I've done at Epcot, we hired an Event Guide to escort us in from the gate. Why couldn't those of us on the D23 event get an event guide to lead us to the DIS party? I asked D23 about that, but I have a feeling I'll get shot down.

At any rate, this may all be moot if as many people wanna go to the D23 things as it seems online - we may not even be able to get tickets! :sad2:
