D23 Expo September 9-11, 2022 Superthread **Updates in Posts 2 & 3**

Is it for D23 attendees or D23 members? There are a lot of D23 members that don't attend D23 but I assume this is restricted to Gold members?
In my experience, these events that are marketed as "exclusive" to a group of people are actually more crowded than normal events. But I mostly have experience from passholder events, not D23.
I think D23 members in general, but of course they know there will be many D23 members in Anaheim on that date.

I think it would be the same capacity as the other Oogie Boogie Bash nights.

My first D23 Expo so I'm wondering. For the most popular Hall D23 Events and Presentations, are people camping out so they can get the best seats or just to get any seat? And if you have Preferred tickets (which I don't :() do you still need to camp?

Any seats. In 2019 if you did not have a pre reserved stage pass or sorcerers pass, you had to be camped out before 2/3am to be guaranteed to get into the Saturday morning movies panel. I had a stage pass and showed up around 6am without any issues.

And no, with preferred your guaranteed a seat in the front section as long as your there 30 minutes in advance.

Did you go to the parks panel by chance..? I'm not interested in the movies one so hopefully I wont have to be camped out THAT early...!

I did, but like the movies one I had a stage pass. So I got there around 7am. I don’t know what time things filled up for regular guests. I don’t think they had hall e (the holding area) open the whole night like with movies.

Gotcha thanks; hopefully someone else without a hall pass can chime in. I'm patient... but I do need sleep! :rolleyes1

Does anyone know how many tickets were sold? In the past, the Expo was open to anyone even if they weren't D23 members. If not more than 7900 tickets were sold this year, then everyone will be able to fit in for Hall H.

Attendance in years prior was I think in the 25,000-35,000 a day range. It’s also still technically open to anyone you just have to sign up for the free membership. I believe this was the case back in 2019 as well.

This will be my 6th Expo, can't wait. I was just reading thru some posts here. My 2 cents. I have been doing the overnight lines since they moved them indoors, to get onto floor early, to get into the big panels, and avoid a long line outside (sometimes it is HOT), and I need a restroom nearby. Getting inside early also was helpful to get into the line for Stage Pass or Store Pass (I rarely get those because I am in a panel at the release time). I usually go to the larger panels, like Studios, Animation, Parks and small/medium panels too. I do not shop much, but try to get into the stores at some point. i walk the floor but it is so crowded I prefer being in a panel or on a line for a panel, lol.

The Saturday morning Hall D23 one will be the hardest one to get into. Parks is not AS popular as Studios. But still popular of course. And this time the "Studios" was split and Saturday will be Marvel and Star Wars, and I think will include Disney+ from those Studios. (They moved Disney live action to be included in the Friday afternoon one it looks like). Many of those Sat morning people don't care about the parks, they are more the same people who go to Comic Con in SD. So they are line vets, and have no problem waiting overnight. Many people skip parks presentation because most are from CA and the Parks presentations usually spend little time on DL, and sometimes LOTS of times on the parks in China, or WDW. (going by what people have told me). This year, maybe something on a NEW Tomorrowland at DL though.

With the exception of Saturday morning, I have had luck with last minute standby lines, for small and medium ones.

I personally do not go to parks on the 3 Expo days because, once I started doing those overnight lines, I needed to grab a shower and some sleep. But some people do the Expo differently, just walk the floor, no panels, or mostly shop. Some leave in the early afternoon. Food is a challenge at Expo. They have added Food Trucks but I usually have no time to go to those. I bring water, and have brought in the small packets of peanut butter on crackers, worst case they toss them, but never have yet.

And LASTLY, the Cosplay is just one of the best things to see and I love seeing the costumes. It is so fun.

An email went out today about activating badges. I’ve pasted it below.

Subject: Badge Activation for D23 Expo 2022 presented by Visa

Dear D23 Expo Guest,

D23 Expo is only a few weeks away, and we are excited to let you know that the D23 Expo badges have begun shipping and should arrive in the next 3-4 weeks!

Your badge will be your “passport” to all the magic of D23 Expo, so make sure to activate it when it arrives using your badge number at D23Expo.com/Activate. Please note, the guest who purchased the tickets will receive all badges even if they have already been transferred. Guests who are picking up their badges from Will Call will be able to activate it on-site.

Why you should activate your badge:

  • Secure reservations for shows and stores
  • Participate in opportunities presented by Disney and Friends of Disney
  • Receive photos taken at select D23 Expo experiences
  • Redeem your Gold Member Expo gift (D23 Gold Members Only)
Important to note, D23 Expo badge activation is not mandatory but will enhance the overall D23 Expo experience.

Please note: Child badges are not able to be activated. Child guests can still participate in reservations and photo activations as the guest of an adult with an activated D23 Expo badge. International guests who will be picking up their badges at will call can also participate in advanced reservations, but will need to activate prior to redeeming reservations.

Badge activation requires a D23 Gold or General (complimentary) Membership. Any Guest age 13 and older is eligible to sign up for a D23 General Membership.

To activate your badge, you need to follow three simple steps:

Your badge will then be activated!

You can find a full walkthrough of all badge transfer and activation steps here.

Be sure to check out our Things to Know page along with the latest announcements and information at D23Expo.com; and you can follow @DisneyD23 on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram for breaking D23 Expo news and coverage.

I also got the above email and asked if we should have received our badges already. D23 replied:

Oh boy, right when we are traveling..! ^^; Does anyone know when the panels were able to be reserved last time..? Hopefully they wait at least a couple more weeks after that for any straggling shipments.

There were some people who hadn’t received theirs before the time came for panel/store pass selection. I think D23 did something special for them, like give them their badge numbers to make selections. However, I think some people got hosed, not sure. I can’t remember exactly the timeframe between shipping and selection, but a few weeks seems likely.

last time around it ended up being the weekend before but it was suppose to happen on an earlier date and got pushed twice. They mailed the badges later last time and the expo was two weeks earlier.

For parks, my sister and I got to the parks panel lineup about 6 am, picture is from that time. We were in the HA section so a different line, but I will say that by about 7-7:30 am, it looked like the hall was mostly full. I wish I had taken a picture.

We got in line for parks around 3am. We were in what I think was the first row of people in the basement, not the final theater seating, but back in the second half of the basement. I think there were half as many people or less when we arrived than your picture shows. We had decent seats, but definitely not very close. I think we were in the middle section of the theater though, toward the back off to the side.

I didn’t arrive until after 7am and they were definitely still letting in gold and regular standby at that time. I had a stage pass so we had no issues getting our wristbands a spot in line.

One thing to note as that they hold all the people that arrive super early for the show floor down in that basement as well until their section is full then they use the north basement which is in a different building by katella. When I got their at 7am they had just started to use the north basement for show floor holding.
