D23 Announcement

Personally, I think it just shows they are going to be sharing info on the parks around the world and cruising in general. 🤣
Yeah. Disney tends to be REALLY heavy handed when dropping easter eggs and this just doesn't feel like that to me. I think the 2 ships are the new ones coming (Destiny & Adventure) and I really doubt it is about the Magic class ships. They just upgraded them to have Magicband+. I don't see them going away in the next two years or so and why would D23 promote saying farewell to their ships when they can focus on selling staterooms on their new and larger ships?

So many thoughts...

Practically I think it is more news about the 3 Disney ships that are on the horizon - Adventure, Destiny, and possibly a mention or two about the Japanese one just announced.

However, it could be Magic & Wonder replacements. If they are I think two things:
1. Ships in the size of the original are unlikely given the trends in cruise ship building over the past 30 or so years.
2. Ships lightly themed are unlikely given Disney's obsession with IP at the moment, coupled with the announcement of the new OLC ship.
Unfortunately have to agree with your thoughts about what the possible replacements may look like. My feelings re cruise ship building trends and Disney's obsession with IP? Meh... for lack of a better word 🤣

Agree and since there are 6 castles to match the 6 park locations, I think it's just a graphic with no particular meaning about any additional ships. Sorry to be a wet blanket,

It has been reported recently that some of the major cruise lines are placing orders for ships in the 2500 to 3000 passenger range. DCL has committed to be net zero by 2030 so replacing Magic/Wonder makes sense as they are the least efficient. It would also be in the range of possibilities that new ships would be around 3000 passengers (Magic/Wonder currently 2700).

Even more like the Dream and Fantasy would make me happy. Do NOT like the layout of the three new ones. I am sure Meyer Werft can build whatever is designed.
It sure can... but anything that is newish will require more design time... which means more time before it gets in service. Not saying that they won't go that route - just that there are a few more hurdles...

True, Royal Caribbean has been hinting at a new "Discovery" ship class... and like DCL, the ships that RCL is trying to replace are late-1990s builds... and the reason for building those ships is likely similar... the ability to go to destinations that have "size limitations" in place and are more unique (hence the Discovery name)... now, I think part of the reason why no announcement has been made yet (of an actual new ship) comes back to design... Fincantieri still built some of those 2700 passengers ships in the late 2010s (for Holland America) but RCL is usually working with STX which hasn't done so in quite some time.

I counted the castles, too. I was trying to see if there was an Asian theme to the artwork. I did see a pagoda /temple. (Edit: and realized that is probably for EPCOT; the tree being AK, and the water tank HS. The merry go round for MK doesn’t work so well; Msybe it represents California Adventure,)

And the two ships could just represent East & West (to cover the fulltime hemispheres upcoming).

I wonder if they just draw this to see if we have nothing better to do than look for hidden meanings?

I would never have tried to decode it if it weren’t for this forum! But it is fun…

Merry go round I attributed to the "World of Color" at DL
