I don't feel abandoned

But I know the feeling! Well.

Don't worry, we all know that you have to move a family half way around the globe. No wonder you don't have so much time for DISing!

When big life changes happen, it's bound to cut into personal/entertainment time. I've seen a LOT of my DISFriends go through major illness, moves, job changes, etc... but they always seem to come back! And they are very much missed during their absence. I think most are understanding if a lapse in posting happens.

I am so glad that nothing really bad happened. This sounds like it could also have gone horribly wrong! I hope you are less sore today.

I don't like it either... Somehow I always seem to use it to communicate with DISers, I guess I am a bit shy about contacting them in real life, even though I have their contact details...

I do too! But managing it always seems to be a pain for me. Seems like I'm always having to pick and choose carefully which ones to clear out, and sometimes I just don't want to becuase I need that info. Don't be shy with me; I prefer my e-mail address!

Accountability is something that really helps with things like that that you really don't want to do! And you are welcome to post about your running as much as you want! It really looks liek the DIS is getting so many people to take up running. Which is great!

It's so true!!! And you're right, I don't want to- esp. on these hot days! I know lots of people getting into the running- hey, if it scores me another trip within the next couple of years, I"m happy to keep doing it!

seriously, Sophia! I can't even hardly keep up myself anymore! My househelper is gone the whole week, so I really don't have time to be on at all, added the extra work of moving.... I"m barely treading water!

I saw your reply to my post on Part 2, but I thought it might be better to keep the conversation here... I had a lot of fun reading the PTR, I was often amused and I often wanted to comment on this or that, but decided to not warm up old conversations. There were however two things I wanted to mention:

"third culture kids" - I had never heard this term and googled it. How interesting! I have a dear friend, whose father was a diplomat and she very much fits that in the positive sense. And I also found it interesting for my volunteer work with the exchange organization. When we select students, we look for those who have an ability to adapt to a different culture (and family and school) in order to funtion in their host country, but also as a means to experience the other culture from within. Very often kids who have lived abroad with their family for some time are very good at it (but often also kids whose families had been hosting foreign students). But ideally we also want to send students abroad who see themselves as ambassadors for their own country. Therfore we think a sense of "national identity" is really important (and this is something we as Germans battle with immensely, it is much easier to deny your German identity, especially abroad, than to accept that your own).

And I have a tip for you: We had the most wonderful server at California Grill in 2008, his name was Gary!

I can't get here soon enough- well, actually, I"m rather durned tootin' excited for Germany too, so I can't wait until after that. In some ways, the whole bit before WDW is sort part of my travel and re-entry- I"ve got MANY fun things lined up:

Germany, a 3 day trip to Edgar Evans Lake on our family's houseboat with both of my sisters and their families and my parents, time with my parents, my first real 5K (I hope!) in Bowling Green, moving my son into school (Western Ky. U) and a Big DISMeet in DC, time with my sister (Ball of Wax) on her home turf (DC), and then WDW!!!

Phew!!!

There are entire books written on this subject- our favorite is called "The Third Culture Kid Experience" by David C. Pollack. It's a great book on defining them and guiding them through self-discovery given what they've been through growing up.

No, you got it right, "server" is more accurate, and more up-to-date. Waiter is more old fashioned, but what I grew up with, soooooo, go with server. To be PC, and all that.

Oddly, I just made that same mistake just yesterday.... about my daugther!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Luckily the other person let it slide graciously.

Ok, here's a new confession... I am NOT running at WDW!! So there. I do it because I have to, and that doesn't fall into the category of "vacation fun".

Unless maybe you see a huge tour group just ahead of you, heading directly for your favorite ride???

Packing is going much better- DH decided to partcipate. We've put a deadline for ourselves to ship our boxes on Wednesday next week, so that will add one more layer of finality to the whole mess-er, I mean proces...

He was hanging a flourescent light last night with my son, Andrew last night, and the cover slipped out of his hand, and sliced his wrist bad enough that he nicked an artery and completely severed a tendon (the one that flexes the thumb up). They could not do the surgery in Bowling Green, so...

My sister and he are on their way to a hand clinic in Louisville right now to have it surgically re-attached!!!! He really hoped to have full function/range of motion again with this!!

Hey, can you guys be lifting up my Dad?? He was hanging a flourescent light last night with my son, Andrew last night, and the cover slipped out of his hand, and sliced his wrist bad enough that he nicked an artery and completely severed a tendon (the one that flexes the thumb up). They could not do the surgery in Bowling Green, so...

My sister and he are on their way to a hand clinic in Louisville right now to have it surgically re-attached!!!! He really hoped to have full function/range of motion again with this!!

Mark is already out and about!!?? That's amazing!! Did he decided for sure on having the angioplasty early? Before your trip??

I go back to work tomorrow and my doctor is downtown and I'm hoping to get in. I don't think it is walking pneumonia. As disgusting as it sounds, I'm finally couhging up pfhlem (I know that is not spelled right) which is helping. But I swear I did something to a rib yesterday when I coughed really hard in the monring.

Yep, he went to the park on Sunday and went to watch Andy coach yesterday. He's going back to work on Thursday and calling the cardiologist to try and schedule his visit with him for next week and the angioplasty as soon as possible (no Vegas for Grumpy).

I am actually VERY glad to hear you are finally having some "production" to your cough- as weird as that may sound. You easily could have coughed something out of whack yesterday- woudln't surprise me at all. Let us know what your doc says tomorrow!!

It IS added stress! And you're right I don't need it. Ugh!! Just glad my sis is there to help out- Andrew has (is there right now) an important university orientation he has to go to today WITH my mom (my dad was supposed to be there too). Sheesh!
