D-Day Invasion- "Strange"-ly Imminent!! TRIP REPORT IS UP!!

Dear All

I may not get to all your responses and posts over the next week. Please know I love you all, and am thinking about you, but just have so little time to 'play'.

But you can all continue to have fun in my sandbox while I"m "away".

We understand. We know. We will!

We're thinking of you and your family too.

I
So, I have to have an ECV. I am trying to figure out (and maybe you guys will help me) how to make that work. Renting an ECV for 11 days is really expensive, so I am going to rent one offsite because it is a lot cheaper overall.

I have only used one off-site place so I can't compare it to any others - but I use Walkers. I know the first time I used them we were there for just over a week and I was told that I was getting a reduced rate because of the length of our stay. I assume the reduction was from their normal daily rate. Since that first time I have rented from them 4 other times, and when I booked one for our November trip I was told I was a Gold member now and get an automatic rate deduction. They will deliver to bell services (so you don't have to set up a time to meet them) and when you check out you leave it with bell services also. I have never had problems with the battery dying. I plug it in overnight, but unless we are back in the room for an extended period of time I never plug it in during the day. And it has never even really seemed to get low. I have gone 2 days on one charge before , when the outlet strip that we brought was plugged in - but turned off - and still had no problem.

The only time I did have a problem was with a scooter they brought me - When you let off the "gas" it would continue to go. Not very far, but when you have to maneuver into small places in theaters - or getting on the bus, those extra few inches were annoying. I left them a message that night (it was after hours when we finally decided it was the ECV and not me) and first thing in the morning they called my cell phone and ran one over to our resort and swapped it out with us.

I am sure the other companies are great too (or they wouldn't still be in business) but I chose this one initially because I didn't want to have to meet with the delivery guy - (some of the places want to show you how to run it and to dismantle it when they deliver it - I just wanted mine left for me) - so it was that "feature" only that made my initial decision - and since I have had no issues since then, I have felt no need to switch. I don't know if I can post their number to the board - but if you go to the DisABILITIES folder, their is a stickie that lists numbers of some of the various companies.

Have a great trip!!!!:moped:

Thank you so much for your help with this!

I am one of the very few people on the DIS that has had a hard time with Walker. The only time I have ever had to rent an ECV was for my last trip in June and they definitely had the best deal on pricing and I just picked it up when I got to the POP. But I ended up getting stuck in Tomorrowland for 2 hours because the battery kept dying and they never would replace the scooter (or battery) and still charged me the full price.

I saw several "Apple" Scooters when I was there and they were all very new looking, so I am going to try them this time. So far they have been very accomodating and will also drop off at Bell Services and I can just pick it up and then leave it on the last day.

I am also renting a regular wheelchair for Baker and they are going to take care of that as well - and it was the cheapest I could find for that equipment.

I guess we will see how it goes and I may decide to try Walker again in the future. I hate to bad-mouth them because so many on the DIS have had such good experiences with them...mine just wasn't the best.

Hi Liessa !! You are really getting close to D Day !!!! Can't wait till the 29th in DC!!! Just talked to Tracy tonite and we are EXCITED!!!!!

I haven't seen or heard from Tracy in a long, long time!!! Is everything ok in her world?

I need a BIG favor from someone!! Can someone do this for me??

I need a confirmation from everyone on WHICH meal they are coming to...

the only ones I know for sure are:

Denise (praisehisname) and her 2 daughters are coming JUST FOR LUNCH;

Ty (disneyaddicted) and for sure 1, but possibly 2 others are coming for just lunch;

Rob (My_Pal_Pluto) and 1 friend are coming for just dinner;

My sister and I will be there for both;

Can someone contact: Glennbo, Rosie, Tracy, JenBear123 (with Bubba), and jenb1023 to see which meals they will be with us for?? I need final counts so I can make "ADRs" with the restaurants. Who did I forget?? UGH! My brain has not had enough coffee yet.

Glad you guys are all having fun! :goodvibes

Mary... so sorry you are stuck with that boot. Im sure your fellow comrades will not leave you behind!

I think you need to decorate it as a tank... that would be awesome!!!!!!! :lmao::lmao:

Liesa, about to go to bed, but since you are up I wanted to just say HELLO! Hope you have a great and productive day as things wind down for you! I hope you have a safe trip, and can't wait to hear about your time in Germany. We will miss you here while you are out of touch. :thumbsup2

FOR ME- it's the little things that I"m looking forward to in my WDW vacation.

Here are a few:

~~ A meal where water WITH ICE comes automatically WITH my meal

~~ The words "thank you" and "you're welcome" are often spoken

~~ A pillow that doesn't have lumps

~~ No sand blowing in my face when I walk down the street

~~ Free sugar with my coffee

~~ Signs that tell me how to get to where I need to go

~~ Fruit that has been washed with clean water

~~ Sidewalks

~~ Being able to use my debit card wherever I go

~~ Bars of soap that don't melt after 3 baths

~~ Bath water that doesn't smell like the river

~~ Asking for a new plate in English

I could have an entire vacation with just these, and be one happy camper!

20 DAYS LEFT!!!!

In four days you will be able to get the following, the rest will have to wait until you arrive in the US:

~~ The words "thank you" and "you're welcome" are often spoken (ok, in German it is "Danke" und "Gern geschehen")

~~ A pillow that doesn't have lumps

~~ No sand blowing in my face when I walk down the street

~~ Free sugar with my coffee

~~ Signs that tell me how to get to where I need to go

~~ Fruit that has been washed with clean water

~~ Sidewalks

~~ Being able to use my debit card wherever I go (provided that your debit card is a Maestro or Visa Debit card and your American bank has set it up that way, but my German debit card works in the US)

~~ Bars of soap that don't melt after 3 baths

~~ Bath water that doesn't smell like the river

Sounds not too bad, does it?? :goodvibes

I can deal with that!! Although "you're welcome" in German looks awfully throaty. :goodvibes

I do think our debit card works almost everywhere. I think if it works here, it'll work ANYWHERE!! :lmao:

DC MEET - Bubba and I will be there for LUNCH ONLY
Liesa, remember we are meeting up at the hotel I'm staying at. I PMed you that info a few weeks ago. If you need me to reconfirm everything, just let me know :goodvibes
