Cypress Pointe - Resort vs. Grand Villas

Okay just one more question;

First thanks to all who answered earlier posts concerning accomodations. The number of choices in Orlando is just over whelming. After all the excellent feedback and great pictures from SandyinCanada we definately are going to stay at Cypress Pointe. We will also be booking through Hotelkingdom a great little website I had never heard of until DISboards.

The last question concerns the resort side vs. the grand villas side of the property. Hotelkingdom has the resort for $73 a night and the grand villas side for $96 a night. Is the Grand side worth the difference??

I know reading what some people spend on a hotel in orlando it may not seem like a major price difference. But we are going for 18 nights and we also have to contend with the Canadian exchange rate which adds about 23% to all prices. So I just wonder if I am getting anything "extra" or worthwhile for the difference in price??

Thanks

hb2000...

Having stayed in neither CP or the CPGV, I'm perhaps ill-qualified to reply...however, we booked CP (3 bdrm) through HK for our upcoming April visit for 12 nights. I could not justify the price difference between the two, especially in light of the fact that CP just underwent extensive renovations, including new kitchen appliances, furniture, carpeting, paint, etc. I agree those pictures posted were wonderful! CP is also the home of the volcano pool, which my kids will love! I understand the entire resort isn't that large, and guests at CP are allowed to go over to the CPGV side to use their pool, or the mini golf, etc. I don't know if the size of your party will matter though...with 5 we'll be more than comfortable in the 3 bedroom. The second bedroom is definitely small in the 2nd bdrm (twin trundle bed).

Good Luck with whatever you decide! :)

I have a similar question on this resort so I hope it is ok to tack it on to this thread. If you stay at the GV are you allowed to go over and use the volcano pool? Is it far? We are planning on booking a 2-bedroom at the grand villas for the twin bed set-up in the second bedroom but the pool is the primary concern for my children. If we can't, I may reserve a 3-bedroom at the CP. Thanks very much.

I've stayed in both units recently. These are the major differences:

The CPGV two bedroom unit is larger. The livingroom is bigger and there would be more room for the kids to move around. The second bedroom is much larger, and the two twin beds are parallel to each other. It is nicely decorated in yellows and navy. In the livingroom and master, walls were mainly yellow with red & navy furniture. The two pools are plain but nice. The small putt-putt course is in the middle of the complex next to the the turtle pool. There are elevators in every unit. The volcano pool would be at about a five minute walk away from most units along the main road that leads through CP. During my stays, there has always been a guard at the main road in.

At CP, the unit is smaller but I like the decorating better. The unit feels more cozy and comfortable to me. We don't have kids and don't need the extra space. They are decorated in teals and greens in addition to yellow. Night lights under cabinetry allow roaming through the condo at night without turning on the lights. The second bedroom is small with one stuffed chair, a tv, one twin bed with trundle underneath. The third bedroom is a second master with the bed and bath all in one open room. The hike up to the third floor can be daunting at the end of a long day. There is only part time security at the main road into the complex.

I just love both units. You can't go wrong with either.

I haven't stayed here yet, but I finally bit the bullet this morning and booked 7nights over the Fourth of July holiday in the 2br at CP. From the description on Hotel Kindom's site, it states the 2nd br has 2 twin beds, not a trundle...is this new since the remodel? Is this how all the 2nd br are set up? Does anyone have pics to share? Thanks!

I just wanted to add that the resorts (not the rooms itself are pretty much the same) We were in building 7 and depending on which side of the building we walked out of, we were 2 min away from either resort pools. We can go to either pool.

This link will show you what the 2nd bedroom and trundle looks like. Its like having 2 twin (single beds)

Thanks Sandy! Actually, I think my kids will get a kick out of sleeping in the trundle beds...they'll make an adventure out of it!

Sandy,
Thanks for the photo link. Re: The trundle bed...does the bed under pull up and then sit directly next to the other twin making it, in effect a king? Or is there some separation between the two "twins". I'm just getting nervous because my kids are 15 and 11 and now I'm not sure this will work. The hotel kingdom site said 2 twins and even the CP floor plan showed two beds perpendicular to each other. When we were at the Grand Villas in Nov., there were two separate beds in the 2nd BR.

Honestly, I'm not sure. I looked at it but never pulled it out, sorry. Give them a call, I found the people at the front desk very nice.

Off to Cuba in the morning....got a deal I couldn't resist, taking DD this time as shes visiting from NS :)

good luck

Are all of their rooms decorated in those bright, modernish, flowery colors? I don't really care for that. I like pale, soft colors, cozy, feel. Would I like one better than the other?

I have stayed in CPGV, but I have contemplated moving over to CP because of the recent renovations and the cheaper price. I prefer the separate twin beds for the kids, so I will gladly pay the higher price for CPGV. In my case, I only have to worry about the cost difference for 1 day, because the other 7 will be with my Ready, Set, Go from skyauction, so it doesn't matter which resort I choose, it's the same price anyway. OP, you should give some thought to using skyauction as well!
