Cycling and WDW

Hi Everyone: Planning a trip to WDW and taking a friend who really likes cycling. Are there any cycling paths or places to cycle at WDW Thanks.

While cycling within some of the resort areas can certainly be done, there are no cycle lanes on the WDW roadways and they are generally very crowded with buses, service vehicles and private autos- not very conducive to safe cycling. I don't recall seeing any signs prohibiting cycling on the roadways, I also can't recall seeing any bicycles either- except the surrey bikes around the Boardwalk and at OKW.

There is a paved walkway from OKW to DD that could be used for cycling, but it is only about 1 mile and won't likely prove to be much challenge.

A lot of campers cycle around all the roads at Fort Wilderness, and it's very pretty.

I never saw a bicyclist on the roads of WDW either so I checked with the CM durring check in at FW. He told us that there were no restrictions as far as he knew, so I decided to ride to OKW one morning. After doing the scouting ride I told my wife that we could bike to the Tuesday morning Members meeting at OKW and we did without problems. Funny thing is that durring that ride we saw another rider out on the road enjoying his morning ride. As with any road riding, being cautious is rule one. Riding around FW and on the path to WL would provide the longest reduced speed roadways in WDW in my opinion.

I would agree that VWL would be a good choice of resorts for someone who wants to cycle. They have paths all around Fort Wilderness that you can go on. It is beautiful over there. My DH cycles too and we want to stay at VWL next time we go to WDW. He wants to be able to cycle over at FW.
