Cutting in line..

When we are in WDW we all take care of anything we have to do and then we all get in line together.

Nobody goes to 'hold' a spot for others that aren't there yet.

If anyone has a reason to get out of the line for any reason, we all do.

A couple family members that need to catch up to the rest of the family/party.....I can live with that and I think that most folks can, but just imagine if everyone in line in front of you is holding spots for 3 or 4 or 5 MORE people?? The whole system would break down. .

ah!but a PP in favor of placeholders said that's not important because that won't happen. so here's the logic. I guess if that DID happen, placeholding would NOT be ok.

ergo, placeholding is Ok only if a few people do it. ipso facto: so those people are more important than everyone else. (one might say entitled! cheers)

Perhaps we need two lines.....one for those that don't mind people moving on past and one for those of us that understand the meaning of take your turn.

I imagine that the system would remain exactly as is and you would be seated on the ride at exactly the same time.

Imagine three scenarios. The first has a family of four in line right in front of you. The kids are cranky and doing the I-gotta-pee dance, but they remain in line. The second has the same family, but mom takes the two kids out of line to pee and for an attitude adjustment. They return to their spot shortly before boarding. The third has dad get in line while mom deals with the kids outside of the queue. Shortly before boarding, mom and the kids join dad. All three scenarios get you on the ride at exactly the same time. Your line experience is best in the scenario where mom cuts and worst in the scenario where no one leaves the line.

I prefer scenario D. Where the kids are cranky and mom and dad deal with it and THEN join the line.

Or if kids are cranky - mom or dad takes them out and guess what?! They don't get to ride. Excusing them from waiting in theine yet still letting them ride teaches them bad habits. Or even better - take a break / de-cranky them.

We would never reward bad behavior like that. Of course, I don't expect everyone to raise their kids like we raise ours.

I still wouldn't say anything to someone cutting their way up the line I'd they can do it without physically touching me or the kids. It really doesn't have an impact on me as I can wait - I'm never in a huge hurry - but I'm not trying to get a list of stuff done either - I would imagine those on touring plans don't Like waiting an extra 5 minutes because of cutters.

I am glad to hear it doesn't happen that often at Disney. We went to Legoland in CA and it was the norm for one person to be in line waiting while a group of 5-10 people rode another ride then "caught up". It truly almost ruined our trip we were getting so angry as it was happening in every single line we were in.

it doesn't matter if I will be seated at the same time. It matters if I ewill be seated at aprox. the time I THOUGHT I would be, ie, the stated wait time at the beginning of the ride. you know, the one that makes my decision whether or not to get in the line in the first place.

your first 2 scenraios would not change this. (and I stated aften that I don't mind people leaving and REJOINING the line they were already in.

the 3rd scenario definintely affects that. and I don't want to hear "oh, but only for a few minutes!" it's only a few minutes if only a few people do it. (they must be important).. BUT!! if it's Ok to do it, why shouldn't we ALL do it? well, of course we should.. and therefoer you could never trust the stated wait time at all.
if there are 100 people in line, and 50 of them are placeholders for the rest of the family, say families of 4) , then there really are 250 people in line (150 more that you thought. 150 more than the CM gauging the wait time thought. more than double the people, this will definitely change the wait time!. (and this is saying only half of those in line are doing it. I'[m being lenient by saying, Ok, not everyone will do it..
if it's ok to have a placeholder, why shouldn'
t at least half of the guests do it? they all have the same right.
oh! it IS ok to have a placeholder.. it's called a FASTPASS. it holds your place in the virtual line.

But from what I have seen, the wait times are not gauged by the amount of people in line. A CM gives a card to someone at the beginning of the line, who then gives it to a CM when they board the ride. This tells the CMs how long this person waited in line. So, place holding does not affect the wait time you see on the sign.

but they don't do this continuosly. so it would depend on WHEN the rest of the family decided to show up. say the guest turns in the red card. and the time is adjusted. now I get in line, based on the new stated time. but many people between me and the "red card man" (not to be confused with the yellow card man in stephen King's new novel;)) are placeholders, so are not counted in the wait time posted based on the latest red card.

Your same logic is true regardless of whether anyone cuts, ever. You won't know how accurate that SB time is because you won't know how fresh the data is.

Has run it's course and time to move on.
