Ok, for those of you that have done it...how have you made it work? hulu? netflix?

We're using an antenna and receive quite a few channels through the air - all the major networks and our favorite channels called ME TV and the Antenna TV channel which show the old classic TV shows we grew up with.

We also stream through a ROKU device. We have a monthly subscription to Netflix $7.99 and an Amazon Prime membership which allows us to stream and we get free shipping and a free Kindle Prime book a month, too. So for around $15.00 a month, the streaming works great for us. We would keep internet no matter what and that runs about $28 a month.

My husband does miss watching basketball games, but he says it's not worth paying $90 a month for it - (that's what our cable bill was before we cut the cord).

Did you have an antennae on your roof? or the ones in the tv? We have an xbox, so we can stream through that. I won't get rid of internet, so we will still have that.

We use netflix instead of cable, which we cut a few months ago. I don't miss the abundance of reality shows one bit since there is plenty to watch on Netflix.

Sadly, we went over our usage this month and had to move up a tier on our Internet. We'll move it back down and be more careful next month (probably only an issue for people in Alaska or northern Canada, where Internet usage is metered).

We use netflix. Most of the shows we watched are available on the channels website the next day so I don't feel like we have missed out on much.

I have a roku box, Hulu Plus and Netflix. We also watch Dvd's I am very happy not to pay a big bill. I have plenty to watch all the time.

My husband misses ESPN sometimes but other than that, we have happily lived most of the past 15 years without cable or satellite. We stream online (how I watch PBS shows and Army Wives), use our digital antenna for news (and cartoons for DD) and have a streaming Netflix subscription. We got rid of the Netflix DVD option a few months ago because our library has such a good selection. We pay $38 a month for our internet and Netflix entertainment.

We haven't had cable or internet since June. I thought the kids would go crazy without Disney and Nick but they've done awesome.

Roku boxes
Netflix
I had Hulu+ but never used it so I ditched it
Play On
Antenna

We survived by doing Netflix Streaming, Hulu Plus and Google TV. Hulu Plus was our least favorite of the 3.

No. We have a digital inside antenna that we bought at Wal-Mart (cost about $30 dollars if I remember correctly). My brother uses an antenna called Leaf that he hides behind a picture on the wall that works great.

I loved the concept of that, but it didn't work for me where I live. We got nothing, well, we had 2 channels that went in and out, but nothing else.

Directv has a tier for $20 but you have to ask for it. It has maybe 25 channels mostly children programs but it works for us.

We're not in a rural area - we live in a suburb about five miles from downtown Indy. I'm sure that makes a difference on what we can pick up. There's even a difference on different TV's located in different rooms throughout the house.

My sister lives in a rural town outside of Indy and she was going to try the Leaf plus - I need to find out how that worked out for her, how many channels she could pull.

Antennae in attic, HD Tivo with lifetime service. Nothing extra. Thought we would add Netflix, etc, but there is enough on regular TV for us.

We just have Netflix and we love it! The kids have more shows to watch now, we used to just get local channels, no cable channels. The funny thing is everyone is so used to Netflix we find so many things annoying about real TV. The kids were at my mom's watching Phineas and Ferb on Cable and didn't like the episode, they are used to choosing which episode they want to watch! We were at a hotel recently and couldn't believe how much we've gotten used to having no commercials :rotfl2: Netflix is great! We only have one TV, in our living room. With Netflix DD can watch on her I Pad, DS on his I Pod touch, DH on one of his many Apple devices and me on the regular old TV :thumbsup2 Sometimes DD and DS will actually be in the same room watching the same show, but different episodes!

FWIW, I live in the country about 30 mins east of Richmond and 30 mins west of Williamsburg. I tried a few antennas from local stores before purchasing a Leaf online. With the Leaf antenna, not only do I get our local Richmond stations (like PP I adore METV and Antenna TV) I can also pick up stations from the VA Beach area. I do not have Leaf Plus, just the standard Leaf. I did a lot of research about it before deciding that the Leaf might just actually work for me. And work it has!

This is a great tool for determining what stations you should be able to get and what kind of an antenna you should need to get them: http://www.tvfool.com/

I'm thinking about doing this, but we only watch sports. Lots of sports. It would be very hard for DH and DS to give this up. I need to do some research and see if there are other ways to get sports.

thankfully, they did take it back and return my money.

We live about 25 miles away from the channels' stations, but we also live in a bit of a dip/hill and have 80 ft. trees surrounding our house.

So, I am not sure distance is as much of a barrier as obstructions.
