That's kind of the point. I was pointing out the absurdity of people who actually think that the emergency services are anything but 24/7!

Hate to burst your bubble here. I called my SIL and asked her if she's ever received one of these calls.

In her 27 years of being a 911 dispatcher in a large city on the west coast, she has never once been asked a question about what their opening times were or what their hours of operation are. She knows of no one in her department who have ever been asked that question, either.

She has, however, been asked how to thaw a turkey.

Retired after 20+ years. Never heard of that question either. Not to say that no one has ever asked it. Just probably a LOT less common than the OP thinks.
