Customizing MagicBand - Names (kinda silly question)

So after I did online check-in we were instantly able to customize our magicbands for our Sept visit. I'm traveling with my family and my mom is coming along for the fun too. I'm taking care of all things Disney for her so was going to customize her band. Does it have to have her exact name on it? I thought she would get a kick out of me customizing it to say "Nana," but I don't want to screw with things if she needs it for identification and needs her real name on it.

Do they write the name on the band? When Disney used to make name tags (similar to what the CMs wear) they would not do nicknames. My friend wanted Suz and they said no.

It looks like it gets engraved on the inside. It certainly let me do nicknames...

I used my real name ---- DH's band is engraved with " Goofy Joe " They were even labeled like that on the inside of the box !!

On a side note...
I am not able to select fast pass+ choices, what's the dealio with that?

Only one of the five of us has our name on it! I actually used a Bible verse It's encouraging to me, dh is Grumpy (hence, a need for encouragement ) and my daughters/son all chose something they wanted to remember the trip by!

The name you tell them to put on the Magic Band is printed on the inside but the band, when used, sees the person's real name. My son put his xbox user name down for his band but whenever he used it the CMs called him by his regular name. He was really disappointed that, one, the name was printed on the inside and two, that he got called by his given name. As far as the FP+, be sure your tickets are linked or you won't be able to do it.

OK can someone brief me? I haven't been paying a whole lot of attention since AS Music isn't involved in FP+ testing (from what I've read).....now I'm wondering - can anyone order their Magic Bands or is it just the people who are eligible for FP+? We'll be down in mid-Sept FYI

Not anyone. Just certain resorts are testing, which I'm unsure for Sept.
Off the top of my head I know it's AKL, POP, BC......

I do not quite understand it, do you have to enter all of your information regarding the fp+, dining reservations and ticket information before you order it, or do you get it and Disney will put all of the information in when you get to the resort. The more I read the more confused I make myself! Thanks for any information.

I don't think so. I used a nickname for me on mine but I was still greeted by my actual name (used to register the band/room) after scanning using the FP+.

My understanding is that each MagicBand links back to a person- it doesn't really have much information on IT, just a reference number that equals YOU. From then forward, anything which you connect via My Disney Experience to YOU will be findable by your MagicBand (or, perhaps more precisely, by the Reader device that is reading the information from your MagicBand- the information on the MB that it reads is your number, and then the reader device uses that number to look up on Disney Central Computers to see if what you're trying to do is something you can do, like get on a ride with FP+, enter a park, pay for a meal, etc).

So, yes, even after you get your MB (and for many years, they claim) you'll be able to buy tickets and make reservations and whatnot that you associate with you, and by that association your MB will give you access to those things.

Well, we have had major issues this week b/c of me registering my son with his nickname vs. his legal name (so me using "Nick" instead of "Nicholas"....Nicholas being what his name is on our room reservation.) It has been a huge mess and in the end, his band has never worked and we had to get him a plastic card to use. So I would go with whatever name is on the room reservation...
