Hey all, I'm new here and I thought I'd share one of my Disney related projects from a few months back. I'm not 100% sure this falls in to "Arts and Crafts", but I didn't know where else to put it. It's Electronic Art I guess??
Presenting the first of my custom built Magic Radios!
I started with a 1940s antique Stewart Warner AM radio, gutted it, and inserted new electronics.
It has 12 custom themed digital audio "Channels", and the different color dial and backlight colors correspond to each. For example, my Main Street USA channel is Red and Blue for a patriotic look. The Haunted Mansion channel is UV Purple on both. Tower of Terror has a classic Amber dial and UV backlight. Indiana Jones channel has an Amber dial, and Green backlight.
The audio comes both from the internal speaker, and an extra output on the back that is routed to a surround sound system for ambient sound. For example, in the Main Street channel, songs heard on Main Street come through the speaker, while the ambient sound is a crowd of people like you'd hear in the park, with sounds of old motor cars, trolley bells and other effects mixed in.
And if that isn't enough, I built an Animatronic Tiki Room Jose that interfaces with the radio. I will possibly make a thread showcasing that, but for now he can be seen in the video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oDbv9R7wmxA
