Custom Cakes Discontinued at MK?

I don't know if this is new information or already posted elsewhere, but I called the cake line to order a cake at a MK restaurant for my daughter's birthday and there is a recorded message that states effective 12/15/16 custom cakes will no longer be available at all MK restaurants. Same message states that the chocolate or vanilla 6" non-personalized cakes can still be requested at the podium at check in, but this is now the only option. Has anyone else heard the same message? I don't know when this went into effect and I didn't see it in the cake thread but I may have missed it. I was able to order a customized cake at a HS restaurant instead but definitely wasn't my first choice where to have it delivered. With all the changes and dessert parties, etc. makes me wonder if they'll take away custom cakes at the other parks in the future as well.

The message has been that way for a while. There was another email message I saw at one point that indicated they were changing how they handled custom cake orders, not necessarily eliminating them.

Not sure what people are saying on the cake thread- but I got this email a few days ago. It starts off with the desserts that are offered where we are having dinner that night (CRT) and then the email says-

"We also offer our 6-inch round cake. This is available in either all vanilla or all chocolate and can be decorated with one of our Mickey Mouse medallions. This cake generally serves up to 6 people and costs $23.00 plus tax and gratuity.

Our Mickey Mouse head cake, which serves up to 10, is in the shape of Mickey’s Head and is a chocolate cake with a dark chocolate ganache over top. This cake costs $54.00 plus tax and can be decorated with a “Happy Birthday”, “Happy Anniversary” or “Congratulations” chocolate piece!".

It makes me think that's our choices because I did send an email asking about a tiered custom cake with Chip 'n Dale or Stitch.
Since the contact did not even mention my original request, I am sending another email to see what they say.

I am sure the cake thread has this info- I received an auto response for my follow-up email and it says-
***Beginning December 15, 2016, custom cakes will no longer be available at Magic Kingdom Restaurants. If your reservation is past this date, we will be happy to share our new offerings with you! Chocolate and vanilla 6-inch cakes will still be available to order at the podium upon check-in (please note these cakes cannot be personalized)***

Yes, that's the exact wording of the recorded message. I just found it very strange. If they aren't permitting custom cakes what about desserts like the chocolate glass slippers or mini wedding/castle cakes that are typically ordered in connection with proposals?

Just heard back-
"We are currently in the process of re-imagining our packages and enhancements for the New Year. I am holding onto your email and will be glad to send you all the new information once we have it. Please let me know if I can be of any further assistance!"

Which is weird since they wrote me the 1st time and said wait until 12/15. Then they wrote again and told me about the deserts offered and no to custom cakes. And now again saying to wait until 12/15.

And yes to the glass slipper- my 1st email from them had this (with pictures)-

First, we have our signature dessert. This royal dessert features a chocolate cake with chocolate mousse, covered with a chocolate ganache. This is presented with a strawberry and your choice of a dark chocolate slipper, a white chocolate slipper, or a white chocolate crown, all filled with a chocolate mousse, and decorated with a “Happy Birthday”, “Happy Anniversary”, or “Congratulations” chocolate piece! This dessert is also gluten-free and costs $15.00 plus tax and gratuity.

Crown your loved one a Princess for the day with one of our crystal tiaras! Shortly after you arrive, your Royal Attendant will present a tiara adorned with crystals that a family member can place on the guest-of-honor’s head, officially crowning her a Princess for the day! We offer a 3-inch tiara for $25.00 and a 5-inch tiara for $40.00, both plus tax and gratuity.

To create a true fairy tale, we offer our Cinderella glass slipper. This will be presented after your meal on a platter of rose petals and is the perfect keepsake for your visit to Cinderella’s Castle! This costs $65.00 plus tax and gratuity.
