does anyone go to curves? There is on about a mile from my house and they are having a special price to join..i was wondering if its worth it..and how everything works....thanks :)

I just joined about a month ago & let me tell you, I'm not an exerciser! But boy, I think I've become addicted to this! I feel so great afterward! It's not as expensive as other gyms in my area (which I would have never joined anyway)....

How much is the price where you are at? I guess their price varies from area to area of the U.S.

I do recommend it though. It's a lot of fun (loud music to exercise to so that you don't even have to think) & the best part is that there are women of all shapes & sizes there! So not all the people around you will be a size 2!

Go see if they'll let you try it out one day. I think a neighbor of mine did that.

Sorry, forgot to mention to take a look at their website:

www.curvesinternational.com

You'll get all the info you need there. I also called my local Curves & fired off a list of questions before I joined.

Good luck!

Thank you so much...they said they are having a 2 for 1..so if i come in with a friends its 35 dollars each...is that per month? also...are there women of every age there? im 19 but really need to get motivated..im also not an exerciser!!...

I joined ~2+ months ago. I LOVE it!! Paying the fee keeps me motivated, but I feel great afterword. I used to come home and just get sucked into the couch after work. I hit Curves on my way home now and I actually do things around the house.

Not to mention, I've lost a couple pounds and the whole exercise is a good thing in general.

The workouts go by quickly. Being all females, no one's out to impress anyone else. People work out in jeans, sweats, scrubs, anythings. All shapes, sizes and ages too. I have yet to meet anyone who has tired it and not liked it.

As for teh price, I do teh autowithdrawl and a 12 month contract. This makes it $30 per month. $35 must be for month to month. Besides the lower price, teh 12 month contract entitles you to passes at other Curves if you are going on vacation. You can either get a 1 month pass at anothe rlocaiton or transfer membership if you are going to be away for a while.

Good luck!

I've been going since the middle of November - 3x a week. I've never done anything like this in my life (52 years old). I enjoy going and have lost inches and pounds. It is a very non-threatening and comfortable environment. All age groups - teens to 70's.

I recommend it. I pay $29 a month (taken from a debit card).

I joined two weeks ago and I love it. I don't get bored or overwork one muscle group thanks to the quick circuits. The atmosphere is really supportive and yet laid back. One day I am going to able to look at myself in the mirrors (on one wall) and not cringe.

As tired as I am when I get home, I make myself do it three evenings a week. (The other two evenings are taken up with being the mom chauffer.) And when I get back, I have way more energy.

The only drawback is we are in a small town, so the hours are pretty abbreviated: M-F 9:00-1:00 and 4:00-7:00, with no weekend hours at all.

My check draft is $30 a month.

I was a member of Curves for 18 months. I have recently moved to Contours Express. After a while, I felt bored with my Curves. I wasn't seeing much results (I lost about 15 pounds total). In the beginning, there was always a lot of things going on - trivia, get to know the person next to you, etc. When I left, it was come in, workout and leave. No personal interation. The Curves I attended had people from age 16-80 with all shapes and sizes. I don't have any negatives to say about it. If you don't workout, it would be a great starting point!

I'm new to Curves, too (3/8/04) and absolutely love it! I go atleast 3-4 times per week and lost 4 pounds my first month (you get monthly weigh-ins & measurements taken). I weighed myself last week after being on the Curves Low-Carb diet & lost 5 pounds in the last two weeks (total of 9 pounds thus far). I have 45 pounds to go to get to my goal of 140 pounds (which I haven't seen in 7 years).

My Mom got me to join & it's a lot of fun to go together.

C-U "Lighter"!!

I thought I needed a "boost". I signed a contract which has no penalty if I don't continue for the whole year - that was my clincher to join! I pay $29 bank withdrawal and it's $39, month to month. If I am on vac, sick, out-of-town - you just tell them and they credit that time away to you - I think that is a wonderful policy ::yes::

I still do my usual treadmilling in the morning, and some WATP, etc. and plan to hit Curves 5 times a week. I want to get rid of this last 15-20 lbs. Hoping this will be the "jolt" I need.

I haven't started the diet - am reading the book - and may do the diet not sure - I am a WW point counter right now.

I really feel lots more energetic in the evening and I think doing the routine after work helps to curb my hunger in the evening too.

Important point! Yes, my appetite is greatly diminished after work out!

Hi,
I'm a Curves lover too. I joined in Feb. and in one month I lost 17 pounds! Now I did have a goal to loose some pounds for my son's April 3 wedding.
Go and enjoy!

thansk everyone..ive been debating....i really just wanna lose maybe 15 lbs..im 145ish now...but im having a hard time losing it..i was wondering if it would be a good idea to get rid of the last lbs!

I just joined Curves about 5 weeks ago and I've lost 5 pounds! I only have to lose around 13 lbs so 5 is a good start. I'm 5' 2 1/2" , 46 years old, started out at 141 lbs and find it very hard to lose weight. I'm not on any diet plan but I'm trying to cut out as many carbs as possible and I'm watching how much and what I eat.

I was kind of discouraged a few weeks ago because I had been going to Curves for 2 weeks and hadn't lost a pound! I posted on this board and was lucky to have people respond in such a supportive way. They reassured me and told me to stick with it. I felt so unattractive and depressed that night, but the great people on the WISH made me feel so much better.

I like Curves because it gives you an all body workout, I'm fairly confident that I'm performing the exercises correctly, the ladies are so nice, they come in all shapes and sizes and it only takes 30-35 minutes. I feel trimmer and good about exercising.

Just my 2 cents worth!

Are there joining fees? No one seems to have mentioned that. I dont' mind the $30+ a month but I hate the sign up fees.

Thanks,
Kim

I think the sign-up fees vary. I just signed up on 4/4 and my fee was around $75 or $79 (can't remember which). My monthly fee is $29, but with tax is around $31.00.

What my experience has been is as follows: I haven't lost any weight - I weigh exactly what I did one month ago. I am 5' 5' and weigh 142 (have not been watching my diet - eating about anything I want). I would love to get down under 130 (127 or 128). However, I'm beginning to wonder if that's a realistic goal or not. I don't have my first measurement for another week, but my clothes are fitting better and I feel like I'm looking good.

But, I am having a BLAST at CURVES. I'm usually there right around 8:00 AM (after dropping the kiddos at school) and I run into the same group on may days. Everyone is sooooooo friendly! I'm having a ball. In never knew excersize could be so fun. The down side is that I have to be careful not to talk too much. If I'm talkin, I'm not pushing myself as hard as I should be.

I have found a wonderful support group there that I never dreamed of. I previously did "The Firm" video workouts at home (which are awesome!!!), but felt the need to get out and join other women. The support I've received at Curves has been awesome.

I only hope I feel the same 10 months from now as I do now. But 30 days into it and I'm lovin it! I just ordered Gary Heavin's first book on diet from the library. I'm looking forward to seeing what he has to say about nutrition and diet.

Thanks for listening!

Lissa.
