Ok I just wanted to give a quick update I just converted 200 bucks CDN and the rate was 1.1444 so anyone with cash to change I would suggest doing so on your lunch break or make the transfer online.

TD rate
1.1444

hopefully it stays this way until DH gets home from Work. We have a big chunk of change to take in. Cheers Thanks Kat

Heres to hoping I just converted another 1000 dollars for Dec we weren't planning on it but at that rate this early we couldn't resist.

Thanks for the heads up Charles!!

How did you get this rate? I went to the BNS after your post and they said 1.155?
THANKS

How are the service charges on this account? I would like to open one, but since I will not be spending the money except for once a year, I don't want to pay a lot in s/c.

Also do you send a cheque to Disney when you book with them? I'm not sure of the logistics of saving this way. I'm not comfortable withdrawing large amounts of cash to carry on vacation with me. Is it worth it (service charge and usage )to open one of these accounts?

Also do you have to go into the teller to deposit money? For instance if I wanted to convert say $500 cdn to my US $ acct, could I just deposit at the bank machine? Or do I have to go into the bank?

TD US account is 1.00 a month service charge if you carry a balance under 500 US in teh account over 500 and there is no charge. We deposit direct through the teller or we do a transfer from our regular account online (easiest way to do it). When it is time to travel we just go in and get TC's with the US cash from the account for sending money to people or Disney we just have them draw a money order from teh US account.

This was the TD posted rate at teh time of my transfer from my account to my US account.

About cheques... we have a US$ account with chequing at RBC and have found the cheques are virtually useless. Even though they're in US dollars, they're not from a US bank and apparently have to go through the same "foreign check" process as any cheque drawn on a Canadian bank in Canadian dollars... so they're not accepted in the US.

But the traveler's cheques and the ATM thinq work fine... the account is just a way of avoiding converting cash at a disadvantageous time/rate.

I have a CIBC usd account and they charge 75 cents each time you want to withdraw but nothing each month, but I can't use this card in the states to withdraw my money at an ATM once I am over there. Can I use the TD one for debit transactions?
TIA

You can use a TD account for debit transactions in the US but they can't connect your Debit card to the US account.
