With the current flooding situation going on in Northern Oahu and the fear the Wahiawa Dam could fail, I wanted to discuss the impact this may have on Aulani.
Even if Aulani itself was fine, structurally, and received no damage, how does this type of flood impact Oahu overall as a tourist destination?
I’m thinking impacts to flights, traveling to and from the resort, or the general ability to visit certain places on the island. If half the island is flooded, that’s obviously not good. If only the north shore is flooded, it might not be as easy as “just don’t go there” if the domino effect is more people pack other areas of the island.
I don’t want this to turn into a debate about the moral ramifications of vacationing in an area impacted by a natural disaster. But Hawaii vacations are intricately planned and do require a level of timing involved to cancel things comfortably to ensure no loss of funds or DVC points.
