I haven't been to WDW since they've done the finger scanner. How does this work if you've never been scanned before? (65 days and counting)
Thank you for the info. I assumed it was fairly simple but wanted to make sure. When you scan the first time, that scan is linked to that ticket. So it’s just a normal scan, no extra steps needed. Remember what ever finger you use that time will be what you scan every time after that. So remember which one you use. We have APs & my DH has forgotten which finger almost every time we go.![]()
It's worth noting that you can technically opt out of the finger scan if you want to, but you'll need to present a photo ID that matches your ticket and everyone behind you in line will hate you.
They've put in a system to mitigate this a bit now. Instead of only taking the picture of people after they've had a finger scan issue, they take a picture of everyone using overhead cameras. Then when you have an issue, they can skip the "take a picture" step and compare you to the picture they already have. A lot of times, the overhead camera captures the whole travel party as they're scanning into the parks together, so they can also verify it's the same GROUP of people. This helps if you do something like "brother and sister accidentally picked up each other's ticket and that's why the finger scans don't match."The fingerprint scan was a nightmare for my elderly dad. I practically beat into my parents that they needed to scan their right first finger. No issues there (so they didn’t forget which finger) but the next day they both failed on the scan. Repeatedly and held up the line. I never even thought about telling them how to place their fingers on the scanner. So photos were taken of them after what seemed an eternity with the poor people in line behind us. Anyway the next day mom passed the scan (yay!) but poor dad failed again. From the wheelchair the angle was rough and it was cold and his fingers just weren’t flexible. It still took forever to verify his photo and held up the line. We only hit the parks 3 days so that was the end of that saga. Even using the photo still holds up the line quite a bit while they wait for someone to come with the iPad and keep having the person rescan while they wait
For whatever reason those fingerprint scanners hate me, and I end up tying up the line anyway
Yep. I get my finger wrong first time each new time we visit. I can remember day to day, but forget after a month or so.When you scan the first time, that scan is linked to that ticket. I talked to a cast member friend and it sounds like they're only doing this to verify identity for park hopping and same-day reentry. They're not doing it to confirm identity over multiple days.huh. They must have just started that because we were there earlier in February. This system is much more convenient I must say!
