Just heard the Fantasy changed from eastern Caribbean to Western Caribbean. I expected this. We are watching and hoping to leave this Saturday the 31st. This is deja vu for us because we were canceled September 2017 from Irma. We keep moving forward, nothing we can do about It!

Yes it is unpredictable when booking a fall cruise as Mother Nature can be pretty spicy this time of year.

Yep, but I keep doing it. Usually goes well. Insurance is a must! Still packing and preparing. 🤷‍♀️😱

I hear ya! We're on the same cruise - I spoke to a DCL rep this morning (about switching a future cruise) but I asked about the storm and she said at this point they don't anticipate cancelling, just possibly re-routing the ship like Fantasy is currently doing this week. Cross your fingers!

I do have insurance but if a cruise is totally cancelled, do Disney refund you or do you need to claim through insurance? We’re on 7 sep Disney fantasy sailing and knew the risks of booking this time of year. Thanks!

If DCL completely cancels the cruise, it will be refunded automatically without need for insurance. However, don't bet on that occurrence. While a remote possibility, it's very rare. More likely they shift around port stops, change itineraries, occasionally extend or shorten, but rarely cancel the whole cruise.

Enjoy your cruise!

If Disney cancels the cruise, Disney Cruise will refund your money for the cruise automatically. If you have airfare or other expenses (e.g., hotel, car, private excursions) not booked through Disney, though, you would need to file through insurance for reimbursement if you have non-refundable costs or cancellation fees.

I was booked on a Dream cruise that was cancelled in October 2017 because a storm was expected to hit Orlando and Port Canaveral. Disney Cruise offered a discount on a future cruise within the next year, as well as a full refund. Because the storm was hitting Orlando, our flight was cancelled anyhow and we were able to cancel hotel and car reservations with no penalty.

As lanejudy noted, a cancellation is rare, and will typically happen only if the storm is expected to affect the area right near the departure port. If a storm is expected to affect other ports, the ship may simply be sent in a different direction (as the Fantasy was this week). This could result in different ports and/or additional sea days. Disney Cruise will cancel or move any excursions booked through them at ports you don't visit or visit on a different day. Most private excursion companies say you will not be charged if your ship doesn't dock at the port, but if you do have private excursions booked, you'll want to check on the policies.

I was booked on the September 2017 hurricane Irma cruise which was canceled. I had insurance but didn’t have to use it. Dcl, a full refund, jetblue-all money back as a credit, Disney DVC-all points put back, even banked ones. I was able to take my insurance policy and transfer it to a future cruise. I had so many people convincing me dcl would not cancel, so had to deal with the shock when they canceled both the Dream and Fantasy and brought the current cruises in early. We did get a 20% off discount for a future cruise with a lot of restrictions on when it had to be used. And here I am. I’m packed and ready to fly out Friday.
