When I checked end of last week, the post office was 1.82. Which of the above mentioned locations charge commission? I'd prefer to get $0.02 less for my £1 if it means I don't have to pay extra on top.

You know I might just do that seeing as I was gonna use my &More card! It'll be cheaper than taking out the cash and then changing it! Thanks for the tip
So glad i paid of my wedding before the rate dropped! I put everything on my AmEx card and got a great rate of 1.89!! Mind you it was well over $10,000 lol so i needed a good rate!
Yes, we weren't too impressed either. It was 1.7-something when we went in 1999, but summer of 2001 seemed to be very bad! Made for working out conversions easy though $1.5 to £1 is much easier to convert than $1.80!

Most places are commission free these days. M&S, Thomson and Thomas Cook all offered commission free to me but M&S had the best rate.
I plan to use my nationwide card too as it means I get a far better rate.
Yeah, but $1.5 requires very little if no thinking! My head is gonna be full of squeals of excitement to be able to stop for a few minutes and work out in detail $1.80

Really? Wow. I haven't travelled abroad for so long that when I did last travel, everyone charged commission and I remember be very shocked when the Post Office introduced their commission free selling and buy-back scheme. I still find it weird even now that others don't charge

They still charge - they just do it in the rates that they offer so that it is largely invisible unless you happen to know the real £-$ exchange rate and not just the tourist rate.
