What products do you use? Long story short, my hair is naturally curly. I have straightened it with a flat iron for the past 10 years!!!! I am letting it grow long now and think I may want to start wearing it "natural" again. Although my hair was a spiral curl, it's now more relaxed and almost more wavy then curly. I would like to be able to style it like this:

What products do use or recommend? It's been many, many, many years since I have styled it curly and I have no clue where to start. I saw Matrix curl life products... any feedback?

My hair is long, halfway down my back and is naturally spiral curly. I haven't used the Matrix products, so I can't tell you anything about them. I usually use drugstore brands and have had good luck with them. Pantene makes a good curly line and the curl defining scrunching mousse is really good. In the summer when it is humid, a heavier product like Sunsilk anti frizz creme works well. (the green bottles) My hair is fine but there is a lot of it and neither product weighs my hair down, just defines the curls and gets rid of frizz. I usually spray my hair with a shine spray when done styling. Right now I am using Biolage Shine Renewal. I forgot, that is a Matrix product. I keep my hair cut in very long layers, and scrunch with a diffuser. I have good luck washing and conditioning my hair with Herbal Essences strengthening products. I think they are called Break's Over, in the blue bottle.

You will probably be happier not being a slave to the straightening iron. I know when I gave up all that, my hair became much healthier and shinier and was easier to maintain, even being long.

I hope this helps you. Maybe someone else who has more experience with the salon lines can post some info for you!!:)

I use Infusium leave in conditioner after I shampoo I apply then scrunch alot and I get the long wavy kinda spirally curls.

I second the recommendation of Sunsilk anti-poof creme--it really does work! However, my single favorite hair product EVER is Aveda Brilliant emollient finishing gloss. (It used to be called Aveda PureFume, I believe.) Just squirt a little dab, like maybe the size of a dime, in your hand, then rub your hands together and smooth through your hair. Zero frizz, and your hair will feel incredibly soft, very shiny, and have a lot of "swing," for lack of a better word. My hair's naturally curly and VERY thick, and this stuff lets my hair actually move when I turn my head. I absolutely love it. :lovestruc

My hair is very thick and curly and wavy. I've been using Herbal Essences Curl Mousse and LA Looks Frizz Control gel for years. These are my favorites because they actually work and they are fairly cheap compared to other hair products. The curl hair products by Got2b also work really well.

My dd4.5 has naturally curly hair that is very lightly layered & a little longer than shoulder length. I use Matrix Biolage Curl Defining Creme on it. I just comb it through when it is wet & lightly scrunch it, let it air dry, and it ends up with the effect you are after. I can keep scrunching alot it as it dries & she gets more of the Shirley Temple look, or comb it straight while wet and it dries with a slight wave, but she prefers the look you are after, too. (She's growing up way too fast--I like the Shirley Temple curls on her!) Oh, and the Matrix stuff seems to keep her hair in better condition than anything else I've tried.

I keep my hair in layers and use Tigi Catwalk Curls Rock curl amplifier. It's a lightweight creme that makes my limp waves spring into curls.

Thanks guys!!! I'm writing down all the products. Do you use a diffuser when you dry your hair? Or do you let it air dry?

I use as little as possible in my hair. I hate the feel of products! Anyway, I use a good moisturizing shampoo and conditioner (not always good about using the conditioner), and then I used to use a product called Zero Frizz -- a cheap knock off of Frizz Ease, but I haven't been able to find it lately! I'm panicking! I've been using Frizz Ease, but it's just not as good. Anyway, a good anti-frizz serum is a must if your hair gets frizzy.

Also, after I wash it, I keep it up in a towel to get most of the moisture out, then I use a pic or wide-toothed comb to get the tangles out. I blow dry it on the lowest setting for just a few seconds -- enough so that it's just a little damp -- then I let it air dry the rest of the way. I have the best curls and least amount of frizz that way.

I for one would love to see pics- anyone?

My hair gets so out of control in the summer humidity. i've been wearing it straight for the winter months, but htat isn't possible in the humidity, so I need some really good product. I've heard that products that contain high silicone are good for keeping the frizz down.

Another vote for Sunsilk Anti frizz. I towel dry my hair, then apply Sunsilk. I play around with it, until it is how I want my hair to dry.

For anti-frizz, stop shampooing every day, or find a gentle shampoo (no lauryl/laureth sulfates). This way you will retain moisture in your hair and it won't react to humidity. I use Frederic Fekkai's Moisturizing Conditioner with Shea Butter. It's expensive, but you don't have to use much. For styling, I generally don't use a diffuser, but have it air dry (less frizz that way). I use Sebastian Potion 9 for a styling product as well as just a little gel.

I use a diffuser with my hair dryer on medium/warm, both middle settings, after I've had it wrapped in a towel for about 10 minutes while I get dressed. I use a wide-toothed comb before applying product and then scrunch in about 2-peas' size of styling creme. My curls just don't behave if I allow my hair to air-dry, and the humidity is creeping in, making it more difficult to manage. The Curls Rock does tame it for the most part, but some of the dry, fuzziness is from a recent home-coloring job and the need for a trim.

Here's my DD's hair after using Nexxus Therappe shampoo and Zero Frizz serum:

I use Catwalk shampoo for curly hair. It's in a turquoise bottle.

After I get out of the shower, I towel-dry for a few minutes. Then I comb it out and add Dream Curls by John Frieda. It's a spray. I scrunch it up wet and let it air dry until it's about 25% dry. Then I flip my head over and dry it upside down with a diffuser on low heat/low power. I keep scrunching it as I dry. It's important to dry it 100% then when I flip back up I have big bouncy curls.

I do suffer from some frizz though. This thread has some good suggestions!

:thumbsup2 This is what I use. My hair is naturally curly but I usually wear it straight like in my sig. When I do wear it curly and with the Curls Rock people ask if I have a perm.

Just a heads up- When I was pregnant my hair would almost go straight. Then after I had each baby it never went back to as curly as it was before. My stylist said she's seen that with several of her clients.

I have had success with curl rock, biolage, and bed head curl enhancing products. I'm a towel dry, comb, scrunch, and go kind of gal - I don't blow dry unless I am drying it straight.

Mine got curlier with each kid! I've been having great luck with Claypac Curl Serum I get from my stylist. It doesn't take much, then I scrunch and let it airdry.
