Curious About Renting Points

I had always heard of people renting DVC points and getting good deals, but never really did much research on it. I'm an annual passholder, so now I'm debating this.

Can someone give me some more details as to how this works? Also, are you able to add the dining plan to a DVC package?

Hi. I am a DVC owner and when we have run out of points we have rented from David's from time to time. He is very good. Yes you can add the DDP.

The positives are it is cheaper. Nice resorts. Negatives are you don't get mousekeeping everyday. Make sure your insurance covers your accomodation as you can't make ammemdments once it is booked. You have to pay 50% up front with David I believe. But you get a contract. Can you use ME. Make requests etc. You need to book at 11 months for more popular resorts like BC, VGF , Boulder Creek etc. Hope this helps.

I checked out David's prices and it looks decent. Once the reservation is booked, is it in your name and will it link to MDE like a standard reservation through Disney? Like would I be able to call them with any questions or things I would like to add to it? Like the dining plan.

We are possibly going with a larger group than normal, so thinking a villa may be better, but not sure if everyone would be up for the dining plan like we usually are.

It can be manually linked to MDE. Once linked, you would be able to customize your MagicBands and have them mailed (if US mailing address).

You would also be able to purchase a dining plan. Not sure exactly what procedure David has in place to accomplish this.

You can also use Disney's Magical Express (DME).

You can purchase park admission from any authorized seller. Once the room & admission are linked to MDE, you can make advance FP+ selections beginning at 60 days from check-in.

As PP hss said you will be able to link in MDE. I think you have to ask David to add the DDP. A villa would work well with your group I feel.

With the dining plans, everyone (3 and older) would need to be on the same plan for all nights of the reservation.

Thank you very much for all your help! Now to just plan that trip. Very familiar with everything else Disney, just not DVC. That's all new to me.

The big issue with renting is that there are no refunds if you have to cancel.

The DVC owner still controls the reservation until check-in so you would need to contact David's to have the DVC owner add the DDP and pay for it in advance.

DVC studios also tend to have 1 queen bed plus 1 pullout sofabed, so be aware of that.

But it can be a great deal if you understand the trade-offs.

You would have to add the dining plan or ME thru whomever you rented from. Tickets, FP's, dining reservations etc you would link and handle on your own.

The bigger issue is knowing when to book a stay. Most members book their stays at eleven months out. At seven months out, all points are the same, so villas go quickly. From late Sept to after the marathon is the busiest time for DVC resorts. They are usually 95-97% occupied.

So don't try to book Easter now. Even Christmas is pretty much too late (probably Columbus Day and Thanksgiving as well).
