When we were recently at WDW, we saw several buses w/odd names on their boards. "Belle" and "Rapunzel" come to mind. Does anyone know what these buses are used for? I saw them at hotels and parks, but couldn't figure out anything through observation.

We asked a bus driver this over the summer. I think they told us they are in training or something like that. There are a few bus drivers that are on Disboards, maybe they'll post and answer.

Training or cast member buses.
Nope, training buses say training. CM buses say VIP CMs. It doesn't stand for anything that would matter to guests. At present, buses say Repunzel. Before that, it was Belle. And in the not too distant future, it'll be another character.

I asked at the desk one night (when we were there for something else) and was told that they give them crazy names for training.

Every time we saw a Repunzel bus no one was on it but the driver.

I heard that they are buses that are dead heading. Buses that are empty going somewhere to pick people up.

Buses that are deadheading will usually show DH plus the resort abreviation. IE, deadheading to the CSR resort, it will display, DHCS.

I have always wondered about those character named buses! I always seem to see the Stitch bus.

Must be top secret!

Nope, just not my place to divulge operational functions that have no impact on riders. Really, it doesn't mean anything to guests, it's an internal thing. Let's just say that Disney would rather not have buses driving around with nothing or "out of service" on the marquee. It's bad show.

that what i figured it meant but did see a couple buses with nothing on their maquee it was blank mybe it was having techinal problems.

Ahhh, we saw this for the 1st time last week. We all were guessing it meant "Disney Hotel Coronado Springs". Interesting and thanks for sharing!

I wondered about those for a long time too and I think I might have found the answer. My husband was down in Florida the weekend before Thanksgiving week this year (for a conference), and stayed at Pop Century, but went over to POR with some friends for Yehaa Bob (LOVE HIM!). After the show he told me he went out to the POR bus stop to get a bus to Downtown Disney (I think) and then planned on catching on there back to POP. Instead of going all the way to Downtown Disney, the bus driver asked him where he was going and took him to Pop directly. When Jeff (husband) got off the bus he looked back and saw the marquee said "belle". So I think these might be roaming buses that basically go where they are needed, or take people where they need to go.

You will see a lot of those at DTD; I finally figured it out when I got a bus to OKW and was confused by the DH in front.

When the bus driver said he was deadheading - I finally put two and two together.

Coming back, I was on a DHFQ bus.

Makes perfect sense.

Thanks. Consider the cat killed. I can file the info away w/all the other useless minutiae like who sits on the Peacock Throne.
