I'll admit to just skimming over most of this. My only comment is that historically, Scandinavia has had less issues over sexuality and nudism than we do, or the rest of Europe for that matter. That's all.

If I choose to watch the Super Bowl, I expect to see a football game and a halftime show that is appropriate for a general audience.

Speaking as a Catholic, I don't think American television has been "family friendly" since the days of Leave it to Beaver. Have you seen the NFL cheerleader outfits over the last couple of decades?

Personally, I'm much more offended by a show that glamorizes sexual assault for ratings and profit (SVU) than I am by an exposed bewb or two anyway. But that's just me.

I was NOT agreeing with that other post at all, but rather lamenting the fact that some see it as all or nothing- breasts are either sexual or you are frigid and your spouse is gay, and I don't think that's the case. I think there's plenty of other reasons why you might not always look at them in a sexual manner, that was all I was trying to point out. I'm not frigid and my DH isn't gay but neither of us think that breasts are all sex all the time. THAT was the point I was trying to make, albeit quite unclearly. And now this is a rambling mess as well- sorry.

I for one, enjoy reading about and discussing the world's different viewpoints on something. When you understand how other people in this world think, it just might lead to tolerance.

Exactly. That Super Bowl, and any of the others recently have been far from family friendly. Anybody trying to say they have been is being disingenous at best.

I like CSI and the L&O shows because unlike the real world, the bad guys usually get caught and punished.

As for the cheerleaders, I normally go grab the wash from the dryer when they show them-no interest.

My point was, we use expectations about content to form our choices about what we watch. I find the greed aspect of game and reality shows personally offensive, so I don't watch them. I find the casual attitude about sex on shows like Sex in the City and Grey's Anatomy personally offensive so I don't watch them either. Don't ask me why I watch The Sopranos-probably because I'm from Jersey and I keep expecting to see friends.

Most of the cheerleaders and other female performers at the NFL shows dress immodestly, imho. It's bound to happen sooner or later, whether by accident or on purpose. I'm surprised that we haven't seen more considering how little clothing the women wear.

My solution? Don't watch American television. My dad calls it "the idiot box", and for years it wasn't allowed in our home. I know lots of families here who don't own one. The only reason I own one now is because it was a gift from my dad, now that we have family in Iraq. We might need the news. But when it's not in use, it's in my clothes closet.
