Toying around with the idea of heading back to the world over Labor Day weekend! We just got back 10 days ago & our SP's are currently blacked out :( so the only way to keep myself sane is to start the next planning process!

I noticed CSR (our usual) is sold out for that weekend :( so sad about that!!! Is there some sort of large convention or should that be my heads up that Labor Day weekend will be crazy all around? This is one holiday I have yet to experience at WDW.

Any suggestion's on another mod resort? I'm leaning towards POR at the moment.

I generally don't book this far in advance since we are fairly local, so I'm used to the AP discounts being current for the stay I'm trying to book, so should I wait until Sept AP rates are posted or book now, and get price adjusted? This particular situation is totally new to me so I'm not sure how that works, any info would be appreciated.

Car show that weekend. They still have rooms for 99.00 a night with the convention rate. You don't have to enter the car show to get that rate either. Dream cars weekend Disney for more info.

Thank you so much for that info!!!! That's a great rate but I'm weary it would be overly crowded. So torn!

Our first trip was CSR and we thought it was home, maybe it still is, we just did 2 weeks at POR and, I still missed CSR a little bit. That being said, I am very torn about our next trip CSR or POR.... POR was AWESOME.

Just beautiful.

Book it, you will enjoy it. The TS restaurant is IMO, terrible. But the food court for QS, is amazing.

Well, my husband and son love to look at cars so that is why we are going there. I am not worried about crowds because we are use to Christmas crowds lol. I think you can't beat the rate and you already know you like the resort. I understand about being torn though.

Thank you for your input!! My DH loves CSR and especially the pool (dig site), how does the pool compare?

I found a great deal for POR on Expedia ($135 a night) and it allows us to add a 3rd night to our trip and still come out less than the price of two nights on the WDW site, but I have never booked a WDW room on Expedia and I'm a little paranoid about doing it haha

CSR is my favorite Moderate, but if I had to pick another it'd probably be POR. Of course, I've also wanted to stay there ever since they put in the Royal Rooms! Every time I say that to someone, I get the reponse, "WHAT?! ARE YOU A 12 YEAR OLD GIRL?!" LOL pixiedust:

The pool is really nice, its not as amazing as the CSR pool, it has a different vibe to it, BUT, it is really cool still. They have music playing and run games for the kids all day, there is a slide, and its a pretty big pool. And the quiet pools are much bigger and better then the CSR Quiet pools IMO.

And don't take my comments about the TS food too much to heart, one of the great things about being at POR is that you can always take a water taxi or a bus down to Downtown disney and there you have a selection of a ton of restaurants for TS :)

Its a really wonderful resort, you can't go wrong.

If they had King Sized beds in the royal rooms my wife and I would stay in one in a second, I think they look awesome. :)

I tired to book there way back in Oct and couldn't get rooms for the last week of August. Must be a crazy big convention that I couldn't get rooms that far in advance. But I think it's just as well since I wouldn't want to be there if there is going to be that many people. We are now staying at CBR, which I know isn't a lot of peoples pick but we all liked the looks of it and we wanted to try somewhere different from our last trip where we stayed at POR. I did really like POR but DH said stay at a different resort since he's never going to go back to Disney....he said that last time and look we are going again...though it's hard to say "no" to a trip that I'm paying for! :rotfl:

Thank goodness for these boards or I'd have never known there was a car show going on! :confused3 They have a great room offer for the show but like you said, I don't know how much I would enjoy the resort if it was jam packed. We aren't into cars so it just wouldn't work well for us. We keep saying we would like to try another resort, but when it comes down to booking we cant ever pry ourselves away from our favorite  so I guess now that I have no choice it will finally happen! I'm sure you guys will have a great time at CBR

Big conventions at CSR usually works in your favor because it means the pools and buses are not as crowded. Its not the same as being at a regular resort that is sold out.

Oh I definitely agree! I have never even noticed a convention going on during our stays at CSR. I am more worried about it being a car show, wouldn't that clog up the resort/parking lots a little more with the cars involved etc? Maybe I'm wrong! Either way, as much as we adore CSR I think its a good reason to step out of our comfort zone and try something new.

If there had been rooms we would have likely stayed at CSR as many have said it's a big resort and they don't feel the impact but when it's October and you can't get rooms for 10 months in advance that seems like a whole lot of people! I'm sure that you'll find a resort that appeals to you and have a great trip. :thumbsup2

Actually, it's had the opposite effect on us. Now I'm going to look into staying there just because of this.

Because of the car show? :) If DH was into cars it deft would be perfect, like an extra perk to your vacation! Neither of us are into it though, and as much as I want to believe it won't be packed I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little concerned. I would hate to not enjoy myself and wish I had booked elsewhere. I am so torn! $99 a night does sound amazing though! I will have to see what DH thinks, he's usually the voice of reason...

I don't know how big this convention is. I have been to CSR twice. Both times during conventions. One I barely noticed and it was vacation as usual. The other (Grangier.. not sure on the spelling) was awful. Every square inch of lawn space was covered with tables for their big dinner, with all of the speeches being broadcast through speakers around the lake. Feature pool was closed for at least the 2 days we were there for convention attendees, but I read longer from reports when I got back. Pepper Market was rammed with convention goers at all hours. To give you an idea, when I opened up my door in the cabanas section there were tables there with people eating their dinner and entertainment everywhere for the convention which included people on stilts and fire twirlers. I kid you not.
The carts that zip by and will pick you up with your luggage to give you a ride had signs that said "Convention Guests" and went right past us. To say it wasn't noticeable would be a lie. So, I very much caution those who go during a huge convention to find out what the scope will be and how it will impact your stay.
Like I said, most times conventions are nothing. For this particular one I can't even believe they let regular Disney vacationers stay there. The resort was full and I only saw a small handful of families on vacation.

Am I reading this right? If there is availability, you can book the convention rate and not go to the convention or be associated with the group in some way? Sounds great, but doesn't seem like it would work. However, I see the group phone number and code, so ....? Too bad I can't go!
