;) DH said last night he would stay at a moderate and would give up a Deluxe resort (where we normally stay). Nice savings $$$, if we do.
Of course, I had to remind him this morning of what he said :rotfl2:

I would like a refersher course on moderates.
I think I have it down to two ...
:flower: Coronado Springs
and
:flower: Port Orleans French Quarter.

Coronado Springs-
:) positives - has boat and bike rentals, sit down restaurant, 2 game rooms, large pool with 123' slide, varied items in food court
:sad1: cons - very large and spread out, does not have 2 sinks ? , long bus ride to Parks, Which bus stop picks up first ?

Port Orleans French Quarter-
:) positives - boat to DTD, bike rentals, carriage rides, small size resort, 2 sinks in the room, first bus stop before PORS - sister resort
:sad1: cons - pool is themed, but small slide and may be very crowed, food court limited, have to walk to the sister resort to have a sit down meal, have no idea of bus transportation reliability

Could the experts on this web-site please help with my refresher course ?

i don't know anything about CSR, but POFQ is beautiful.

My DD was quite happy with the slide, I don't know that is is 'small', we found the pool to be wonderful, and not at all crowded at it was VERY busy Jersey week in October. The food court was lovely - I believe CSR has a bigger food court but we didn't have any complaints about the FQ one.
There are sit down restaurants all over WDW, so having one at my resort is not a big deal - I don't think the mod restaurants are that good anyway, I'd rather go to a nicer restaurant at a deluxe or eat in a park.

The Bus Transport was great - one stop near the main building, plenty of buses, first pickup so always get a seat - on the way to the parks we drove round POR first, on the way back we had our own bus which came straight to FQ.

See the link in my sig for photos

Stayed once, was enough, about 4 years ago. Didn't feel like we were in WDW. Too remote compared with everything. Always a bus, long walk to bus station, depends which casa you stay at and a long walk back. Casa's open out at an angle to the outside, no interior halls. Long, long walk to pool area and a lake in the middle of the resort with nothing going on or for rent, might have changed since our stay. Conventions are held here alot and tend to jam up the Pepper Market, CSR's answer to a commissary. Rates are always cheap here and I believe on account of all the above.

POFQ, we love it! Our ds's love the slide and arcade, landscape is beautiful, we have not tried to buses. We will stay here in July again.

Just a note you mention boat rentals being an item of interest - POR has a marina with boat rentals, and from 9am-11pm you can ride a boat between the two parts of Port Orleans.

CSR is centrally located to all the parks. It is right around the corner from AK and just down the street from MGM and Epcot. BB is right across the street. CSR does not share transportation with any other resort as does POR.

CORONADO SPRINGS to:
Magic Kingdom: 4 miles
Epcot: 6 miles
Disney MGM Studios: 1 mile
Animal Kingdom: 4 miles

Take the bus instead of walking
Theme park buses go:
2 - Casitas
3 - Ranchos
4 - Cabanas
1 - El Centro

Downtown Disney buses, as well as Park Exit buses go:
1 - El Centro
2 - Casitas
3 - Ranchos
4 - Cabanas

CSR buses go in this order so that guests can hop on board a theme park bus and take it to the main building. They can then hop on a DTD bus to get back to their rooms.

Not sure I know what you mean Pepe about lower rates at CSR. As far as I know all mods are priced the same.

CSR is not that spread out...its no worse then CBR if you ask me. If you're concerned ask for a room in the Cabana section...about a 5 minute walk to both the food court and pool. The bus pickup varies by park, I believe

Have to stick up here for CSR! We were there in June. It's beautiful! The bus service was terrific and took no longer (I really think it was less time) to get to the parks than when we stayed at Beach Club and The Swan. The buses don't go to any other resort, so they're all yours. We stayed in a section called the Casita's. We were right next to a bus stop (there are 4.) The pool is fantastic!! My kids actually preferred this resort to the deluxes that we've tried.

I haven't been to PO---I've heard good things, but please don't discount CSR.

Also--you CAN rent boats, etc.. to use on the lake!

Buzz2001 - wonderful web-site - thank you.

I thought I read somewhere that CSR bathrooms were upgraded to two sinks.
Do you know if this is true ?

Also - do moderates now have refrigerators in the rooms ?

Thanks for all the advice :flower:

We stayed at CSR two years ago and really liked it. It is quite beautiful.
We stayed in the Ranchos section which I didn't think I would like from seeing pictures but it was better in person. We even had a "parking lot" view and it was fine. The only time we looked out the window was to see if a bus was coming anyway. We were at Bus Stop 3. El Centro is the first stop.

The fact that it is a convention resort was never a problem. If they were there I never noticed them!

The Pepper Market doesn't seem to get good reviews and I was actually scared to eat there at first just from reading reviews but we ate there every day, had breakfast, lunch and dinner and liked all of our meals.

I don't know how it compares to FQ but I would not hesitate to recommend CSR. :earboy2:

We stayed at both last March. We really liked CSR much better. The pool area is so much nicer at CSR. It had a more upscale feel to it. Even my kids liked CSR better.

We love CSR! Two sinks doesnt make much of a difference to us b/c we are never using sinks at the same time. The food court at CSR is the best of the moderates and you cant beat the themed pool. We have the buses at CSR to the best of any resort we have stayed at or visited. Best of luck!

OK, positives about PO-FQ: has 2 for the price of one themed pools--therefore 2 SLIDES!!!, boat rentals, surrey rentals, great bus transporation... 1st on, 1st off, boat transportation to DTD, recently completely renovated with all new furniture, bathrooms, decor, etc. Large TV's in all rooms, refrigerators in all rooms, 2 sinks in each room.
Cons: sit down restaurant is at PO-R.

Positives about CSR: has longest slide on property, large pool, boat rentals, sit down restaurant, refrigerator in room, good pool bar.
Cons: size of resort (too spread out), convention resort (con for me, may not be for others), food court automatically charges a 10% gratuity (may be more now that the standard gratuity added for large parties had increased from 15% to 18%), still has 19" TV in room, only one sink, hasn't been refurbished for quite a while.
