Wow, this new deal offered by Disney will allow me to upgrade to a moderate for less than I was originally paying at ASMo. I have narrowed my selection to CSR or the Port Orleans French Quarter. I like the idea of CSR having its own buses, but don't like the idea of how big it seems to be. I am a single woman traveling alone and having to walk a far ways to my room by myself late at night scares me. The Frech Quarter on the other hand looks smaller, but shares it buses with the other half of a huge resort. What do you think would be the best resort for me?

it sounds like the transportation is your biggest question, the POFq is usually the first stop, so I think you would be happier with that than at CSR waiting through all of the stops and still walking a half mile..

I would go with POFQ since it's smaller. They are usually the first to get picked and dropped off I believe. At least if they're crowded you won't be alone ;)

We stayed at CSR in October and we were in Cabanas 8B in the back and we were able to walk about 30 yards tops to the bus stop. We were the 3rd stop and did not have to wait a long time to get there while they dropped off other people. The parking lot was really well lit as well as the hallways.
I compared the maps of the 2 resorts and it looks like to me that the bus stops are pretty much the same distance from each set of buildings for each resort. Sure, POFQ has fewer buildings and rooms, but it doesn't appear to me like you can walk out of a majority of the rooms and get right on the bus - haven't stayed there in awhile so I can't remember how close we were to the bus stop. I do remember walking back to the room at night and it was pretty dark.
I've stayed at both resorts and they are both nice. They both have nice theming. If I was going during a busy time, I would pick CSR as they do not share buses with anyone.
Although you can't guarantee a room request, I would ask the front desk to try and place you nearest to a bus stop, especially if you are worried about traveling alone.
Please don't let the quantity of rooms at CSR scare you away. It is a really nice resort with great amenities - great food court, spa, fitness room, lounge, HUGE gift shop, marina, beautiful landscaping, QUEEN beds!!!!
Regardless of your choice, I hope you have a great trip! :goodvibes

I've also stayed at both, and like them both.

For this particular person, I would also suggest POFQ. It has the advantage of no convention center (no drunk conventioneers) and the boat to Downtown Disney.

I don't want to come across as being critical of CSR, because I really enjoyed my stay there. I just think based on the OP that POFQ would be a better choice.

We have stayed at both properties and prefer CSR for the beautiful grounds, pool and the selection of food available at the Pepper Market vs. the menu items as POFQ. POFQ food offerings were very "cafeteria-like" and many items were pre-cooked, whereas at PM food is cooked to order and has many more choices and bakery items. Cafe Rix has prepackaged items to-go. And many people don't realize that if PM has a waiting line, you can skip the line if you are getting the food to-go or plan on eating it at an outdoor table along the lagoon! On a nice, day this is a much better option anyway!
Also, if you let the front desk know that you would like a room in a building closer to the lobby area they will try their best to accomodate you. And, may I recommend that when walking back to your room alone that you try to find a family to walk with and ask them if they wouldn't mind walking with you. I'm sure most families would be happy to escort you to make sure you are safe.
POFQ has the boat to DD, which makes for a nice leisurely ride at night to have dinner or shop. Enjoy your trip no matter where you decide to stay.
